Sheffield United Pre-Season Friendlies 2022-23

Robbo has looked like the same player that started last season, worryingly. Big part in all 3 goals conceded. Egan not much better.

Really gutted about Doyle bring injured because he should walk into this midfield. Our best midfielder so far seems to be an 18 year old kid with no senior appearances.

There's a distinct lack of creativity in this team.
I had high opes before watching the last two games. We look miles off.
I genuinely believe the lack of creavity comes from Norwood doing fuck all other than standing next to CB’s. Berge doesn’t play as advanced because he’s apprehensive about his defensive jobs because Norwood is defensively ineffective and Osborn is just shit. Play Anel at CDM and basham at RCB and watch the attacking players thrive. We got counter attacked because our 2 midfielders are 2 high up trying to attack aswell as defend and Norwood can’t break up play.

Hecky said he identified 6 or 7 positions that need reinforcement. So far we've signed three players and only one is not a defender for a team that struggles with creativity and goal scoring.

Will this be another deadline day last minute scramble like last season?
The proposed transfer of Reda seems to be a long running saga.

Sorry for having early concerns on certain individuals that performed well last season. Hopefully Anel and Clark are guaranteed starters. Robinson is still an average footballer.
He may be an average footballer, I'd agree, but basing team performances on pre season games is bat shit crazy

Yeah because I like reminding people like you you're talking utter fucking bollocks

And when they're talking utter bull bollocks, I'll say

I’m sure the Watford back room would have preferred us to have
Gone for every 50/50 ball full throttle & risk injuries
Gone through our repertoire of systems of play & set pieces that we’ve worked out behind closed doors at shirecliffe.

Shown how versatile our players can be in different systems .

Just to make sure we beat everyone in pre-season

That’s obviously what we all wanted didn’t we blades ????

Just got back from Ossett after watching the U18s win 2-1 against Ossett town.
It was definitely men against boys but the boys showed true skill and grit to overcome their opponents on nice chilly 18c night.
Lovely little ground with a great little stand for their ultras.

Just wondering how its going to work playing Burton on Friday and then Barnsley the day after, especially with the number of injuries we're carrying?!

Thought same myself because your going to want two 11's plus subs for both games.
Because the two 11s will play most of the 90 minutes to get match fit, and we won’t use many subs. The injury list which everyone keeps going on about is not that long.
So we have available for the two games: Wes, Amissah, Wharton; Bash, Anel, Egan, Gordon, Robinson, Clark; Baldock (if recovered from the other night), Lowe, Stevens, N-Davies, Broadbent, Gomis; Norwood, Fleck, Arblaster, Coulibaly, Osborn; Berge, Ndiaye, Brewster, Jebbison, Osula.
That’s 25 and we can still draft in one or two other youngsters if needed.
We have a very large squad.

How isn't the injury list a concern? You've named two players who are doubts (Basham and Baldock) and seven u23 players who won't be near the starting 11 at Watford. Both 11's are going to mixed allover with nowhere near a team starting for the first game.

The question was how would we play both games and I’ve suggested how I think we can. The injuries are a concern but it’s hardly the drama some are making out. Our probable starting XI are all fit even without new signings. The first choice back 3 and front 3 are all fit with (we hope) Khadra to come. The main disappointment for me apart from Bogle who we all knew about is Doyle. Really bad luck to make this coup then he turns out to be injured.

Maybe I'm just being a mardy blade that we're having to go with the same midfield 2 for the 18181818th season in a row 😅😅

Couldn't get Khadra so Duffy coming out of retirement for a trial 🤣

My guess is Trialist is a RWB. Nathan Byrne seems like it could be a potential, just released from Derby, and would be good cover at the position.

Other things to take away from this

  • We aren't going to play our starting XI before Watford. Thats a big concern.
  • Clark is leading Robbo to win the starting LCB position.

Most important takeaway. We're playing a flat 3 AGAIN with the kids up front.

They're going have a torrid time
