It’s a pre season friendly

We need more players in midfield and up top, that's my conclusion from where we're currently at. Hopefully we'll get those players in before Watford and I think we'll have a decent team. I actually think despite conceding 6 goals against lower league opposition that a defence of Baldock, Anel, Egan, Clarke and Lowe is going to be quality this season, even more so when Bogle gets back.

MansiFeld managed to score 3 goals despite it being the hottest day and being only a friendly. Don't try and lay out some excuses, that was poor. We've conceded 6 goals in 2 games to opposition we should be beating.

And? It’s pre season 😂😂

Yeah I think the sun has got to you a bit as you keep repeating it. What are you suggesting by this? That pre-season is solely just for a run out? Results and/or performances matter not one bit? Pre-season is just for fitness, nothing else, and nothing should be read into it. I'll listen to Heckys presser tomorrow, ring the club and ask why he wasted his breath worrying.

Mansfield freshened up half their team after 30 minutes. Then again at 60. If an opponent was allowed to do that in a competitive match we'd be livid and say the game's gone/demand compensation or something.

This was a friendly. Clough gave them an unfair advantage, despite their less capable players.

But it was a friendly and they were allowed to give themselves that advantage.

That being said, we're currently light in attacking options. The Prince and co will have had a gentle reminder of that .

So you’re saying that military precision Hecky doesn’t have us fit enough yet for the new season? And we lost to an inferior Mansfield side two divisions below us purely because they could make multiple subs?

That our defending was atrocious for the second time in a week, we had zero shape or attacking the impetus is no cause tor concern?

Maybe Hecky’s magic beans will sort it. But those who witnessed tonight are entitled not to believe in fairy tales.

Looks like lower league teams raise their game when they play us even in friendlies, then revert to type after,Scunthorpe lost 4-1 at home tonite cant remember who the oppo were.

Apart from Stockbridge, I haven't been to a friendly since Latvia in 2000. Complete waste of time and more of a day out for the new kit brigade, looking for a chance to have a wank over Bash or some other fucker nodding in their general direction and them thinking they're best buddies now.

Each to their own, but if anybodys balls hurt after a meaningless game at Mansfield well maybe it's time to chill a bit.

It was the same conditions for both teams. We were terrible, as we were on Saturday. There are excuses, but none that stand up. Mediocrity is a choice. It’s never acceptable.
Winning becomes a habit, whether it's friendly or any other match, losing should not be acceptable.O.K.,Trying different systems, getting players minutes, blaa blaaa blaa, should not be losing to Scunthorpe,Mansfield.

Not only losing but looking crap while doing it.

Liverpool won the Premier League title behind closed doors. What's special about us?
Liverpool were 25 points clear with 9 games left before the lockdown and subsequent restart; it would have been quite extraordinary had they not managed to win the league with that kind of lead.

Initially, I scoffed at the rather lazy idea that since Liverpool managed to do well under lockdown that implies we should also have done well- Liverpool have an astronomically higher budget than we do, and arguably every player in their 25 man squad would walk straight into our first team.

But it turns out Liverpool are an interesting comparison point, actually. Ignoring the fact that their team is on another level than ours entirely- they are the only team to have a comparable implosion like we did in the near-entire season without fans. They finished with 30 fewer points in 20/21 than 19/20; we finished with 31 fewer points. Obviously the main caveat of this is that Liverpool’s ceiling is much, much higher than ours, and they still ended up finishing 3rd.

I’m not sure if you’re being purposefully obtuse, but as subsequent seasons with the same players have proven, we do not have a squad that can compete effectively with the rest of the premier league on paper. I’m not saying the sole reason for us going down that season was the lack of fans, but there have been several studies that have empirically demonstrated that teams performed worse without fans present. You can point to one off cases if you like, but the research shows that that is the case.

If you factor in how limited our squad was then I don’t think it’s a particularly bold leap to say that we were more affected by the lack of fans than much of the rest of the league, and especially a team that had just won the champions league.

And hopefully that’s all it is. from listening to heckinbottoms interviews they’ve been running the same day as games & you can tell, they looked knackered last night from the offset. I worry about our style of play, MGW carried us at times last season but hopefully these games will iron out the imperfections

We need a Billy!

We didn’t play well, get the concern.

But, we were obviously taking it easier and getting the hours in, Mansfield were up for it, similar to how we were against better oppo under Clough.

I’d rather we have games like this in pre-season to identify issues, shape, tactics etc. than steamroll teams like Matlock, Hallam etc. where the learnings are absolute nothing.

Pre-season is first and foremost about getting players up to fitness, familiarity of tactics, trying new stuff, blooding players etc. not about results.

Happens all the time. To better teams than ours.

If we go full blooded against Mansfield, we beat them. But we open ourselves to needless risks.

As others have pointed out, no one gave a shit about pre-season unless you played a bigger team or got tonked 14-0 to someone like Alfreton.

The people I feel sorry for is the streamers that either paid £7 or the match pack £5-6 to watch that last night. Luckily I have only been free to watch the Portugal friendly so far. I get everybody's points about it being pre-season, if that was the League Cup first round nobody would be bothered to be fair. The 2 concerns although 3 conceded against Scunthorpe least we managed to score a couple. Last night 0 and looked sloppy in defence, as long as habits aren't formed by the mentally of "its only preseason" then we will be fine

PRESEASON…. GAMES…. DON’T…. MATTER!!!!

They are about fitness and nothing more.
You might want to tell Hecky that then. His comments after last night don't sound too much like someone who thinks these games don't matter.

I hope we beat Watford 3-0 and win our first 10. But it's also OK to criticise a pre-season display.

Of course it’s ok to criticise but the primary reason for these games is to increase fitness levels of the players and nothing more.

Given that yesterday was the hottest day in UK history, I’m not so bothered that our players weren’t busting a gut and risking injury, clearly Mansfield raised their game against a side from a higher league.

I’m not at all worried about last nights performance.

Worrying developments tonight. Is this now in our DNA?

Children wet the bed for numerous reasons – here are a few of the most common:
  • Time. Some children need extra time to develop control of their bladder.
  • Genetics. Children who wet the bed tend to have a parent, aunt, uncle, or grandparent who wet the bed until a late age, suggesting a genetic component.
  • Sleep. Children whose sleep is disturbed by snoring, television or pets, and children who are deep sleepers are more likely to wet the bed.
  • Stress or life changes. Going through big changes like moving or a new sibling, or other stressors, can lead to children wetting the bed after being dry for a long period.
  • Medical. Medical reasons such as having a urinary tract infection (UTI), constipation, or differences in the way the body is built or functions – like a small bladder or making too much urine – could be the cause. In addition, Type 1 Diabetes can also first show up as bedwetting along with increased thirst and urination.
Mine just ripped his nappy off and pissed in the bed.
