Outgoing? SANDER BERGE ON WAY OUT ?

Gutted if he’s off, he’s the best player in our squad I’m my opinion yet if the right offer comes in I’d still cash in. He’s down to 1 year on his contract next summer, even with a decent season under his belt his value isn’t going to be £35m like some think (it would if we had had him tied to 4/5 years).

He’s a young lad from Norway who we did incredibly well to sign, if we’re honest we were punching above our weight signing him and it won’t have been his dream move. He will be looking out for himself and his career at this stage and I’ll bear no grudges if he wants to move on. I’d love him to stay and get us promoted then sign a longer contract but sometimes you have to be realistic. He needs to be playing at a higher level than the championship and we can’t gamble on his value plummeting.

He whispers in their ears, "I'm taller than you," and some of the more sensitive Championship players get a bit scared by it.
Your comment just reminded me of some of the embarrassing refereeing last season v forest when their players threw themselves to the floor every time he out muscled them

All those who say they’d keep him, how do you bridge the gap between our expenses and our income? Obviously if he stays, it could increase our chances of promotion but it doesn’t guarantee it.
Didn’t we recently post profits of £9.5m for the last financial year? We seem to announce new sponsorship deals every week, we’ve sold over 20,000 season tickets and just offloaded 9 players including moose, McG, Freeman & Burke to save what? £350-400k a month in wages? So, what gap?

Going off rough estimates on Transfermarkt we spent £63 million in the 19/20 season while recouping £300k, we spent £56 million 20/21 season while recouping £0. Since then we've sold Ramsdale for up to £25 million, with no other outgoing players receiving a substantial fee.

I'm not going to outright say we need to sell in this window, but judging by that disparity it would make a lot of sense.

Wouldn’t you have been better to look at the actual accounts that were released to the public to gauge where we are financially?

Transfermarkt doesn’t take in to account TV money, sponsorship money, match day revenue, merchandise sales etc etc hence why we made a profit for the last few years. So it’s only looking at one area of the clubs finances. Bottom line is we don’t need to sell, he’s our best player and has a £35m release clause. If another team wants him then buy out his clause, that’s what it’s there for. Promotion will be a lot harder without him. Also, has he actually said he wants to leave? All I’ve heard his his national manger sticking his nose in and trying to stir up trouble. Which was very unprofessional of him really

The age of silly money entered professional many years ago, so Berge's worth is surely relative to our need and whatever ambition we currently have? Personally, I like him, exactly the type of player I'd pay to see. Possessed of the type of skill that would hopefully prosper in a better standard of football, if Hecky really wants to get promotion this season then hold onto Sander, at least until we know whether we're promoted or not. Yes, it's a gamble, but isn't this what guys like Hecky are paid to consider?
I find Transfermarkt a good source of info on players, especially when you use their search function to pinpoint certain characteristics.

To show what a player of unique attributes is, search for a midfield player of his height and his age and worth at least, say 5m.

You get just 2 globally with his attributes:

The issue with the profits we posted is that it's for the year we came down. We were still receiving PL TV money & all the trappings that come with being a Premier League team. We can't continue as we are and expect our accounts to resemble anything close to that again unless we get promoted, which is a tough ask at the best of times.

When you add in the fact we've spent £119 million & recouped £25 million, I do think that will leave us with a financial gap to bridge.

Whether we need to do that now, in January, or next season I've no idea. But it'll have to happen, surely?

I could well be wrong, and I hope I am - this is just how I'm interpreting it.

So Bremen blag us that they are skint so they can have burke for free then submit a cheeky 18 mill bid for berge the next week.

I wouldn't sell him at a loss he's taking us up this season. Sell him in Jan if we ain't top 2. Selling him for 5 mill less then we paid when he is a far better player now is ridiculous. Yes we might lose money if we sell next season, but we've already lost 20 mill on mcburnie and noone gives a shit about that. Fuck Bremen
Do we have confirmation Burke went for free? I say this because in Hecky’s interviews he said we couldn’t finance the Anel deal in January but can now. Noticeably Burke was being touted round for sale in January but we couldn’t find a buyer but once he went this summer we had the money available for Anel.

Probably more about wages than fees.

But if we bought for £22m on a 4.5 year contract then his book value to the club at the moment is just under £10 million. The question about shortfalls etc is whether we can fund £4.85 million this year for him plus wages. Similar with McBurnie, Brewster and the other big money signings. When balanced against revenues then I am sure this has been taken into account. Next year may be a different issue though.

I think the calculation would be better if you included the significant income for those seasons

I can't see any scenario where we are going to get anywhere near the trigger fee so I think we can safely discount that.

For me, Bremen signing Burke demonstrates the sort of financial pond they are fishing in. Maybe Burke will prove me wrong, and maybe Margot Robbie is going to rock up to mine tonight and shag me senseless.

Berge leaving I think is going to happen. How much of his fee we reinvest is the big question. Or have the recent signings been made with Berge leaving an assumption already factored in? Was Lawrence the Berge replacement?

He's a steal at 25m..

Because a few years from now he'd be 35m

That's what we bought

Whatever

We haven’t replaced MGW or Berge yet despite the signings we have yet landed

Those saying they think we will be stronger based on where we are right now seem miles away

Fair.

I don't know about stronger, but the signings so far are more or less at the level I saw us aiming for. Do we need more? Yes we do, we certainly need to replace MGW and what he brought to the table
