I could see a couple of other teams matching a bid when it's accepted. £22mill and we'd probably be delighted to recoup our approximate outlay.

I think Berge is quite a niche player, who wouldn't work at many clubs. But the right system and tactics could see him be a good player on European scene.

Ole Werner: “Scheiße, wir haben Burke versehentlich unter Vertrag genommen! gib mir das Telefon! Hallo? Paul? Stephen? hangup tone Scheiße! Scheiße! Scheiße!!!!!!!”

There is an enormous difference between the £35m release clause and the touted figure of £22m. Where has the £22m come from as I consider it to be too low.
I would expect us to hold out for at least £25m and if not he stays to help us in our quest for promotion.
doubt he would want to go and play with Burke, he has just seen the back of him

That's a shame. Selling him at any price will make promotion a lot harder
A fantastic player. I've personally never seen someone just glide about the pitch like he does with such ease. A lot was said of his strength when he first arrived here and many have said he still doesn't have much guile about him. But as a player going forward he is a delight to watch. He is key to us going up in my opinion. If we could get him to give us this season with the nod that he can go next season for whatever price then we should.

The berge of the last 3 months of the season is not a £22 million player if we get that berge for a full year we would be miles more likely to get top 2 and he would be a £30 mill player easy.

There is no logic to selling him for £20 million

I don’t think people realise how reliant we were on MGW & Berge

Unless he outright asks to leave then keep him. We are not going to get anyone of his quality to replace him. I’d rather have 1 Sander Berge than 2 or 3 squad fillers we’d inevitably end up wasting the money on. Makes promotion, and the millions of pounds associated, 10 times harder without him.

Anything over what we paid for him and he goes IMHO. It's good that hes got 2 years left on his contract and the earlier suggestion that we keep him for a season in an attempt to go up is a good one. However if that doesnt work hes only got 1 yr left on his contract and if worth what ?

22M and let him go. No loss on the player regarding purchase.
He doesn't want to be here, lingered with an injury, which could come back and be a 5m player as he's a gamble.
Could become an unreal player under the right system, not ours, sell him on for 22M which is more than what he's worth over the last 2 seasons and hope for a decent sell on fee, if he becomes the player most people know he's capable of being.

Then lump the 22m in hope wolves won't laugh at us for MGW lol.

You reckon when Bremen boss phoned Hecky it went like this?

WB - Guten Morgen Paul, vee vould like to zign zat Berg?
Heck - Burke?
WB - yar! Berg!
Heck - have him for free!

2 weeks later...

WB - fucking schizer! Who iz diz idiot? Get zat dingle back on zi phone. Vee vant Sander Berge, not zis imposter!

Think you have to factor in the inflated nature of the English market. If no PL side wants him, 22 mill constitutes huge elsewhere. We also need to remember the words of Solbakken. Like it or not, his career is better served in the Bundesliga.

The key, as ever, will be what we do with the money

What would McCabe do if he was offered £18m at this stage.

Getting £22m plus for a player in the championship is something we probably can’t turn down. Replacement will be difficult but I’m a fan of the recruitment strategy we have in place

More like what would McCabe do if he was offered 2million at this stage and the promise of a friendly?

Wouldn't mind selling him, but must then go and get Chong and Khadra at an absolute minimum.

Reject it, fire up the Kevalry to tell us how brilliant he is, then a month later chase them down the road asking for 10, then fire up the Kevalry etc etc

Between no Berge and no MGW that’s a large chunk of our goals during the last few months of the season.

Hoping we could use the proceeds to strengthen the squad. If we could get 2/3 players in we otherwise couldn’t afford - you have to at least considered it.

What's promotion worth to us? Unless we have some absolute nailed on talented players lined up no sale whatsoever for me.
What about if we don’t go up? Berge will have 12 months left on his contract and we would be lucky to fetch half of what’s on offer now. He won’t sign a new contract while we are in championship. Do we roll the dice again next year? Refuse to sell, don’t go up and lose him for free?

It’s a tough decision the board have to make. I’d love Berge to stay but there is guarantee that we go up if we keep him.

Personally if there is an £18m opening offer on the table, I’d get that as high as I can and if they offer £22m+ I’d sell

Then we sell him then. 22 million is 8 million less than we got for Ramsdale and he had a few good months after a terrible few!

Bit harsh 😳

The age of silly money entered professional many years ago, so Berge's worth is surely relative to our need and whatever ambition we currently have? Personally, I like him, exactly the type of player I'd pay to see. Possessed of the type of skill that would hopefully prosper in a better standard of football, if Hecky really wants to get promotion this season then hold onto Sander, at least until we know whether we're promoted or not. Yes, it's a gamble, but isn't this what guys like Hecky are paid to consider?

He's a delightful player to have in the squad, oozes quality with the ball. The issue is we're skint and we need to finance the training facilities refurb and also strengthen the squad.

If we can afford to keep him and he's happy to stay - keep him.
