absolutely gutted, wot a top professional and a stand up bloke, RIP gary, still cant believe it.

There are not many footballers these days that would have got a reaction to this in their passing. It proves how much a legend this guy was and how highly he was thought of in the world of football

Condolences to his family, a very sad day for them, my prayers are for them.

Very true. Some of my grunter mates have even posted on facebook. Shows how much respect he commanded from everyone

Truly gutted and devastated on hearing this news.
God rest your soul Gary Speed.
My heart truly goes out to all his family and close friends.
R.I.P.

I can't begin to describe how much this has shocked me, devastated doesn't come close, a truly good man.

God bless you Gary and God bless your poor family. May you rest in peace.

Still can't believe it. He'll be missed by the football community as a whole. But i feel proud as a football fan that he once represented my club. Rest In Peace Gary

Not had the opportunity to read all this yet, I will do so when I get the chance. I have spent this afternon in the company of a couple of Blades players ( one current one past ) and both were unable to get their heads round what has happened. I met him once along with my daughter and he was fantastic with her. But I just feel so much sadness for his wife and two boys, my thoughts are with them tonight. RIP Gary Speed.

Just watched the Sky News report on Gary's death. Don't mind admitting I wept like it was the death of a relative. RIP Speedo. My thoughts are with your family.

Still shocked, one of the best players I've seen in a Blades shirt, pure class and a thoroughly nice bloke, so sad as he was loved by thousands yet if reports are true must have felt so alone. It was a honour seeing you play and manage our club. Rip to a genuine legend of the game

I must admit, I welled up watching the Swansea/Villa minutes silence/applause earlier.

Still struggling to comprehend how this could have happened, especially after listening to people who spoke to him yesterday. Tragic. RIP Gary.

Don't know what the story is yet but I'm reading on another forum that theres something more to this, and the people that have mentioned it don't wish to share it. Not sure what to make of that. One of the guys that has mentioned it is very trustworthy and is actually a physio for a football club.

Much the same as most, I can't believe what has happened. What a terrible shame. I never met the bloke but you could tell from the way he spoke and conducted himself that he was a proper gent. So very well respected by so many and will be desperately missed. RIP Speedo, top player, top man, and would probably have been proven to be a top manager.

As expected there's been an awful lot of rumours flying around today. The sun have denied they were investigating his private life.

Whatever the reason, the reaction from people - fans & players alike speaks volumes for him as a person. He may not have set the world on fire during his time as our manager but I think we were lucky to have such a respected professional at the club.

The S*n are of course denying it but it seems they may have been investigating his private life?

I think we can be proud that not only did he play for us but he then opted to stay with us as a coach and then a manager.

EDIT - I have now seen the rumours that are being mentioned. All I can say is that the tabloid newspapers are complete and utter scum.

I'm sure no-one needs telling, but can we please stay away from posting the rumours etc doing the rounds.

My Facebook page is full of messages saying "Newcastle Legend", "Leeds Legend", "Blades Legend" .... that about sums it up, I guess.
