Words fail me. I can get my head round it. What on earth was going on in his life for it to come to this. Always struck me as a genuinley nice guy. Deepest sympathies to his friends and family.

RIP speedo what a talent on the pitch , i expected given time he would be a talent off the pitch , thoughts are with his family :-(

lost 2-0 this morning. How unimportant does that seem now.

God bless you Gary and thank you.

We were winning 4-2 against Sheffield club with a few minutes to go and I suddenly started getting loads of teaxts ,we scored another and felt quite empty. Told the lads in the changing room and total silence and shock amongst a group of 18 year olds after a good win shows how much respect Speed commands.

Horrible news. Thoughts are with the family he leaves behind.

I've never cried upon hearing of the death of anyone who wasn't family or a close friend, until today. This is truly devastating news.

Utterly shocking news for his family and football. The 'committed suicide' bit is especially hard to believe. However, Babak Rafati, a German ref. tried to kill himself recently.

And just yesterday I read this about Stan Collymore.

Hope fans think more than twice before shouting rubbish at players/refs.

RIP Gary.

so sad to hear of this news, in my opinion gary was a gifted player who should have been more decorated throughout his playing career, a guy who got on with his job, whatever he was asked to do with true professionalism. R.I.P.

Totally choked. Probably have no right to be as I don't know the man, just what I saw of his conduct and the way he was.

Seemed a perfect gentleman on and off the pitch. Just shows how little you really know about whats going on in someones life.

RIP Gary. Can't find the words to do you justice I'm afraid.

Genuinely very saddened by this news. Saw him on football focus yesterday and could never have guessed. Seemed like a genuinely nice bloke.

RIP Gary, you will be hugely missed :(

I met him once whilst at United. It was a pleasure to meet someone who was, on the face of it, a happy, confident and successful man. A man with two children, like me, and who had lots that he could still potentially achieve in life. Mental illness and depression is thankfully something I have never suffered from, sadly that makes it something very difficult to comprehend. RIP and may his family find peace soon.

I met Gary when my little brother was mascot such a nice man had time for fans, a much loved man. RIP Gary love to your family.

total shock at this terrible news. RIP Gary Speed. True legend

The game could do with a few more like Gary Speed, it is poorer without him. A tragic loss too soon.
Thoughts are with his family, Rest in Peace.

Thanks to my old mate Graham Hayway for the pic.

Rest in peace, Speedo. A real ambassador of football, and example to his peers and juniors and I for one am proud he wore the clubs colours. Great shame the cockends in the meeja just see him as a Bolton, Everton, Newcastle and Leeds player.

I hope the 'rumours' surrounding his passing are simply that and whatever end he has is allowed the dignity he deserves.

A great Blade.
