Let's see where we are when the window closes.
But this should have been the easiest window to negotiate:
1. Don't sell anyone crucial to the team - we haven't.
2. Offload anyone who isn't - Verrips, Slater, Burke.
3. Let Olsen go and replace him - Done.
4. Get one centre half who can cover Egan and Bash - Pending.
5. Replace Davies if he is unavailable for some time - seems not required.
6. Replace any key players that leave - see point 1. Not required so far.
I know some will say we want other midfield options but we have Fleck, Norwood, Hourihane, Berge, Osborn, Guedioura, so that isn't happening unless some of those leave.
The concern for me is missing gettable options to solve the only realistic open requirement.
Hill made a choice to live on the South Coast. No issue on that one.
Souttar decided to stay in Scotland to be with family who are unwell. No issue on that one.
Dion Sanderson, this one I don't get. Unless QPR has guaranteed playing time, then, I don't see how we didn't just tie this up and close the requirement. We have a good relationship with Wolves and we even went there a fortnight ago. How hard could that have been to fix up?
This shouldn't be that hard.
Timm Klose had just joined Bristol City on a free.
Another unattached player, Winston Reid, is currently playing in World Cup qualifiers for New Zealand. He was with West Ham, mainly in the PL for a decade. He got over a bad injury and played the last dozen games for Brentford including the Play Off final. At 33, he's 6 years younger than Jags, who in hindsight we probably should have kept. Someone like that would do a job until May.
I'm just not sure hanging on a domino effect with Liverpool is the way to go.
