Heckingbottom's Reaction

Feel for the man in a way because he's going to have to do this job with both hands tied behind his back.

He's inherited a bunch of demoralised, unmotivated players who are either at the end of their careers or have seen their best periods come and go with little or no prospect of moving them on until their contracts expire.

He's then got to replace these with a budget similar to that of Carlisle United whilst dramatically reducing the wage bill to ensure we stay within FFP once that kicks in as we have as much chance of getting back to the Premier league as Oldham at the rate we're going.
Don't worry about him , he knows he's unsackable , he's just here for the slide down the divisions + he knows it

Wtf are
Worrying thing is that he seemingly doesn't know what he has to spend in this window. He talked about budget and said it would be easy if he knew what he had to spend... He should know exactly what he's been given and then it's up to him to do what he sees fit. It all sounds a bit farcial.
Wtf are you talking about ?
There is nothing to give him.
There is no budget.
What on earth don't you understand about "there is no money left , we are changing the model coz we have nowt to spend , so we may as well fuck off back to Saudi"

Heckingbottom knew what he was getting into at first he was doing the club a favor by taking the team until a manager could be found .He watched Slav go down the same road he saw Wilder did .He knew exactly what the board wanted from him .He then was happy signing a deal getting a job. I don't buy this he only been in the hot seat for 5 mins and he's learning about the players crap. He saw what happened to Wilder and Slav he has been at the club for a long time. Long enough to know unless he is completely blind and deaf.

I could name an entire squad of players, an owner and board that deserves the utmost amount of stick over this bloke. This season is reminding me of 09/10, it’ll be interesting to see if next season follows suit.

Poor old hecky...

Can you imagine 10 years ago, were 2.0 up, opposition player sent off and we fucking draw..

Write this season off

Fuck the pensioners off and the clothes horses..

Play the youth.. The pros are fucking wank.. We've got fuck all to lose.

"If they'd have had eleven, that wouldn't have happened."

What a stupid statement. If they'd have had eleven, we'd have been beaten 4-1. Face it, Hecky.

pommpey
I think he is saying the players were complacent agsinst 10 men but wouldn't have been against 11 men. Fir me that us doen to the experienced pros not doing their jobs

About 15 years ago, under Warnock, we were 2-0 up at Ipswich who were down to 10 men and lost 3-2 .

What he can so is start building for next season and instead of playing numerous players near the end of their careers he can play the lads we are going to go to war with next year.

Whatever people think of them Brewster and McB will be here next season as nobody else will pay their wages so when the latter is available I'd.go with those 2 up front and Ndiaye in behind them for the rest of the season. Didzy canet hit a barn door and Billy will be useful from the bench.

I'd also give Slater a chance si we can see if hes any good.If he is then hes integrated for next aeason, if he isnt we get rid in the summer. What's the point in playing Hourihane? Hes not our player and hes not that good. Steven's is finished so again let's play RND and see if hes good enough. Same could apply for Gordon.

My team until MGW is available. Wes, Basham, Egan, Gordon, Bogle, Berge, Norwood, Slater, Ndiaye, Brewster, McBurnie
Thing is Slater I don't think is good enough at this level and RND I think lacks a bit of pace and strength to work at this level too.

My worry is that come the summer Jebbison and NDiaye will be sold because the fees will be high enough for the board to accept.

I'm genuinely concerned about what will be left of this squad come August and what little we will bring in as part of this new grand plan

So we know Olsen has gone but Hecky doesn't know if he can use the wages to bring someone in................
Doesn't know what budget he has ................. WTF
Who the fuck is recruiting the players ? 😲
The board. This is one of the reasons Wilder left remember.

Mcburnie lol. Slater, Gordon and Jebbison are miles off it for regular first team football IMO. Maybe worth bedding in at some point if that's our future but let's get more points on the board first.

Funnily enough my Dad text me at half time last night referencing that game! I was only young when we went but have a feeling Darren Bent scored (maybe even all 3?)

The whole club is a complete shambles. Two years in the PL but we are in as bad a state as ever. Our only positive is the level of support but that will start to drop the longer this shit show continues. The only way out is new owners but there is no prospect of that.

Yep. they told Wilder that he had spent all the money on fees and wages and that we were stuck at the bottom of the premier league relegated by Xmas. And he had already tried to resign. Would you have trusted Wilder with more money ?

What Hecky said about recruiting a replacement goalie was more interesting than anything he said about the game,he told us everything we need to know about the future, mind you,it's just confirming what most of us knew already, but the bit about getting one wage off the books and using it for another being not as easy as that shows it could be even worse than we thought.

We have (including the loan player's ) 11 contracts up ,Out of the 11 the only 2 I would keep are bash and Osborn and desperately try and get MGW back next season now is the time to pay off Burke and one or 2 others and just bring in the kid's to fill in ,thanks to a certain person we blew approx 66 million on crap 15 of that could have gone into training facilities and we are now in a desperate state financially for investment in the football side

To be fair, his comment did make more sense in context than as a stand alone. He was explaining that they had nothing to lose, so went for it, leaving gaps which we should have exploited. Brewster had a good game overall but if he had taken his chances or passed to Hourihane when he was unmarked in the box, we would have been out of sight long before their revival.

It's hypothetical but I'd be inclined to think he would have got more out of the squad this season.
Plus he wasn't afraid of binning signings he had made if they didn't work out.
Leonard, Carruthers, Wilson, Hussey, even C.Robinson (much to many peeps dislike)

But let's not divert with a wilder post here fact is we look seemingly screwed.

I like PH and feel he's again inherited a very difficult situation, just as he did when he temporarily replaced CW last season.

His hands are tied through to summer, although I would have expected more activity in Jan than appears will be the case.

Far better to judge PH this time next year when he's has time and the opportunity to shape the squad as he wants, not trying to get a tune out of someone else's plans., and certainly not as part of a knee jerk reaction to a disappointing result.

Very true of course. We make it 3-0 and it's game over. But we didn't.
For a long time we haven't captilised on being on top .

I said to the Mrs when Sharp scored the penalty that I'd rather Brewster have scored and them have 11 men as I had a suspicion that the sending off would spur them on.

It's such a typical Blades thing to do, I'm annoyed but not overly upset as I half expected it.

We played much quicker in transition last night. Three times Brewster had great chances and three times he didn’t even hit the target. At the moment he is hopeless.
In defence our man for man marking was non existent and we ball watched which resulted in two goals. Preston should have won despite all our first half pressure. It is depressing.

Obviously throwing away a 2 goal lead to 10 men is a shocker, smacks of rank bad decisions from players and management. No one is happy, but some of the comments are laughable, we are not in a relegation battle, nor is sacking PH a sensible suggestion. Also criticising/praising post-match interviews is something I've never really thought much of.

We are a mid-table championship side at present, in need of a rebuild/re-shape whilst simultaneously cutting back the wage bill, seemingly quite dramatically.

We were a mid-table side when we beat Fulham, we were a mid-table side when we lost to Derby, we were a mid-table side when we were 2-up and cruising last night, and guess what we are mid-table side after throwing away 2 points.

Far as I'm concerned this season is a bit of a dead-rubber - we aren't remotely good enough to challenge for promotion and we won't go down. So we start the rebuild, which unfortunately has to start with cost cutting.

January is a stupid time to attempt a rebuild as prices are often inflated and recruitment difficult to get over the line.

Given form / wages of most of the deadwood it's also going to be nigh-on impossible to offload what we need to. We will need to wait for contracts to rundown and flog whatever we can.

It won't be until the Summer that we have an idea of the lay of the land. We'll have a better view of what the squad looks like and also PHs credentials as both a manager and whether he's the man to start the rebuild.

What we have here is a coach Heckingbottom who has been handed a squad of players and has been told to make a team of them.
To me it looks like he doesn't even have a budget or if he has doesn't know how much is in the pot.
Looks to me like he is having very little or no say on player recruitment or sales, this seems to be decided by the money men rather than it being a football decision.
It all looks a bit like S6.
A owner who hasn't got a clue like Chansiri,
Player recruitment done by an outside agency or in our case Jan van Wankle sat on his arse in Dubai.
When it all comes crashing down get in a cheap coach Jos Lahukay we get Hecky.
Expensive highly paid players who turn out to be shit that you can't get rid of ...................... we have surpassed anything the pigs have done here.
It is only a matter of time but we are going down might not be this season but it is inevitable if we follow the present path.
I dread to think what we would get should Hecky become pissed off with it all and leave, Stuart McCall anyone (shudders at the thought) a serial failure everywhere he has been.
Probably for the best that we will see very little of the Prince or his Italian lawyer let them stay in Saudi Arabia probably do less damage that way, this isn't Football Manager this is real life where mistakes and bad choices affect real people. Another season of this shit and no one will want them anyway the place is fast becoming toxic much like the Prince's other pet project over in Belgium.

As it stands now i would settle for mid table. Get to 50 points as soon as possible and then start seeing some if the kids. I would even recall Max Lowe to see if he ca improve. Use the close season to get rid of players like McBurnie,Burke,Berge, Freeman,Moose,Stevens,Robinson,McGoldrick and Horihanne(sp) and start again

@ 1:40 - "If they still have 11 men, that wouldn't have happened"

I said that last night. Should be good enough to see it out, but at 2-0 down with 11-men, they play a lot more open than they did. As soon as they got 1 back, you knew they'd get that 2nd
