Berge’s not justified to start from what I’ve seen, RND suspect defensively and Egan’s gone to pot as well this season I miss JOC.

Did we see a cameo of the real Berge tonight only on for 10 minutes but he showed more determination and aggression than he's shown previously.
We need more of that .
It took me back to TC all them years ago he was ace at bullying the opposition.
Premiership teams would be queuing up to take him if he showed that consistently.
Sorry to say a number of our players succumbed to the aggression Preston showed in the 2nd half.

I just can't figure Berge out. He's not a defensive midfielder, he's not an attacking midfielder, he's not a box to box midfielder. He doesn't look comfortable in the centre of a midfield three and doesn't look comfortable as a wide player in a midfield three. So what is he? Is he suited to 4-4-2 and that's it? Did we sign the right player but play the wrong formation, much like Callum Robinson? There's obviously a good player in ther or he wouldn't have been a regular for Genk and had so many top clubs fighting to sign him. But I just can't figure him out at Sheffield United.

Egan is a good old fashioned center half, but desperately needs someone quicker at the side of him.

We've simply got no pace to defend the long ball over the top to quick forwards. We can't play such a high line with such a slow defence.

Egan is always caught wrong side, struggling to keep up. Like when he got sent off v Newcastle 2 seasons before, and Villa last season (Even though that one wasn't a red that day).

I saw Genk play the other day against Beerschot, 4-1.

Beerschot were pretty wank though a few less kamikaze actions and they could have got a point.

Point being Genk were also wank. It really wouldn't be that hard to shine in one of their teams. Put Slater in there and he'd probably look like Prime Makelele at that level.

I’d just sack off playing anyone in midfield, if he’s unwilling to give Slater a chance.

Norwood, Hourihane, Berge, Fleck and Guedioura have the athleticism of a snail and the games largely pass our midfield by, so why bother?

Without anyone else in alongside one of these 5 (or ideally two new centre mids), we will continue to struggle.

For me we need to do 2 things. We need to play someone in midfield with a bit of bite, who can protect a shaky defence. Hourihane and Norwood are the same player, Berege isn't an improvement on either of them. Perhaps it's memory playing tricks but I suspect we'd be in the relegation zone based on 2nd half performances. We seem to completely cave in on 60 minutes.

We also need to bring in another centre back, but I'm not sure Lopata is the answer. After that, I'd be happy to see as many departures as possible from the players unwilling/unable to contribute.
