I think we covered that scenario earlier in the thread

Quick question for someone who knows better than me (Darren!) ...
Obviously, we have to stick with Ched for now as he is innocent until proven guilty. Unless Ched agreed to leave by mutual consent - which ain't gonna happen - we're 'stuck' with him.
What happens if he is found guilty though and banged up? I'm sure that we could sack him at that point but would SUFC be entitled to getting his wages back? For example, if he was mentally unfit to play, could we have an argument that he caused it himself and retrieve the 'lost' wages?
For the record, I hope he is not guilty. Football is not the point here. Whether Ched is a striker earning 20K a week or a labourer earning £150 a week, it is irrelevant and I hope the lad is innocent.

As HB said we have covered this.
Qucik answer is, yes we could sack him if found guilty but are unlikely to be able to get his past wages back.
Any chance of the club retaining part of his wages and putting it aside for him, to be handed over when/if he is proven innocent?
No. That would be breach of contract unless CE agreed to it (which he won't, of course).
He could sue the Club for it. They could drag it out for months... You know what lawyers are like.
He could probably get an injunction pretty quickly stopping United doing it, given that it would so obviously be unlawful. United would then have to pay his legal costs (you know how expensive lawyers are).
Not a good idea.
I'm beginning to think that Ched could be set up for life without kicking another ball in anger.
Hardly. How much are we paying him? £20K a week max maybe. Assuming a trial at the end of Jan and that he doesn't play before his trial, thats about 22 weeks = £480,000 of which he will lose about 60% in tax and NI - so he will take home £192,000 max in that period.
Very nice if you can get it, but not life changing. On the other hand that £480K could probably fund the wages of 4 decent third tier players....

Let's not forget the money he took off the club in wages last season, plus he probably got a hefty signing-on fee. It must add up to half a million, after tax. That would certainly be a life-changing sum for me.

He won't lose anything like 60% in tax & NIC. He will pay tax at 50% on the top slice of his income, but NIC is only 2% as soon as you move into the 40% bracket.
He could have bought the friggin travel lodge and filled it with fanny.
trial in Jan-Feb at the earliest I reckon.

How quick would the trial actually be though? Surely only a matter of days given the number of parties involved I wouldn't have expected many witnesses to give evidence.
Do we know if he's making any effort to keep himself fit? After all, Paddy it seems went to great extremes to stay sharp during his ban.

Don't forget the bar bill!!
Well a 3 year contract at 20K per week would be £3,120,000 over 3 years, if he loses 60% of that in tax, he will take home £1,480,000 over that period. If he is found guilty in Jan and we don't have to pay the rest of his contract that knocks 1/6 off that sum leaving him with £1,233,000.
That would probably set most of us up for life but is pretty much par for the course for an average top two tier footballer these days.
If he's found guilty at his trial would his contract not be cancelled from the date of the offence? In other words would he have to pay some back?

Apparently he's playing for the reserves this afty.
This the third time someone has asked this question. The answer is no.

And so you should be. I am going to start charging for legal opinion on here![]()
Here's a picture of him playing this afternoon
Ignoring the rape charge if Evans gets his head down he could score an absolute shed-load in this division......
According to the official site it's only a "niggling ankle problem" that has stopped him playing thus far.
