The alternatives to tax avoidance are either paying it & shutting up, or pissing off to live elsewhere in the world. It's not as if you are a nurse or a refuse collector, or somebody who is actually contributing something of worth to society. Same goes for the barrister, Pinchy. You wouldn't be missed, you haven't "worked harder" than other people on this forum, many of whom will be socially useful, and no, paying 50% tax on your income OVER £150,000 doesn't hurt you, no matter how much you say it does. If you can't make ends meet on your net income then you clearly have a problem of some sort.

**waits for all hell to break loose**

That's the thing with money. The more you have, the more you spend. If you're already shelling out on a big mortgage, the kids' school fees and a nice motor (or two). And then the taxman takes a larger bite... Well, then you feel the pinch on what you've got left for this year's holiday in St Lucia, or whatever you consider your little indulgence to be.

Not that I speak from experience of the top tax rate. Sadly. :)

Quite happy for all hell to break loose, this thread had become sick making. As if we should feel sorry for them!!!!

For the record, I'm a high earner, but realise I am lucky, also realise that, like Pinchy & probably SE10, I work in a profession that, basically, leeches off everybody else and gets paid disproportionally for it, and don't mind paying my fair whack, especially at a time like this. It's not as if it leaves me struggling to pay the mortgage.

I certainly don't mind the top end of my income going to pay for things that need paying for. But I remember where I came from, and how I could never have achieved what I have if it hadn't been for what the Labour party did in the 20th century. Don't feel sorry for 50% taxpayers folks,, they are the last people who need your sympathy.

No sympathy here. All three of you can get the drinks in if I ever happen to see you before a game.

:D

There are other high earners on here. But most of them weren't crass enough to whine about how hard their lot is. Its supposed to be a football forum. If they want to fuck off to pay a lower rate of tax elsewhere, I will happily hold the door open for them.:)

Nick,

I too remember where I came from. No-one in my family had ever passed so much as an 11+ let alone go to University or join one of the professions. I never have and never will vote Tory.

I do, however, work harder than most: 12-15 hour days are not unusual. The marginal net income once you're in the 50% band, ain't worth the effort. It's not wrong in principle but should start at £250k.

High earning footballers negotiate their contracts net of tax and let the clubs pay. Perhaps they should be shown the door?

By the way, I didn't start this topic and did invite (in no uncertain terms) an end to it above, before you prolonged the debate!

Where's that thanks button when you need it?

If he wasn't nesh he would have scored the winner instead of being muscled out when the ball was there to nod in after it hit the bar. Porter soul have scored that (Yeovil).

Took his goal well but there should be so much more for that fee and the wedge he takes.

scored a brilliant equaliser having been out for months. suddenly porter is gerd muller because ched 'neshed' it! ched is a united player, why do people constantly look to put him down, just because he earns so much. why do people gloss over WHY he earns so much? because he was signed as a prospect from manchester city in the hope he would have big re-sale value. blackwell/mccabe signed him and offered him the money he earns. they looked at his agents request and rubber-stamped it. the looked at mcindoes last close seaason and didnt. hold THEM responsible for the fact he earns so much and be grateful for the fact that hes come back after injury, with serious charges hanging over his head and scores a vital equaliser which puts us top of the division.

Because he is not living up to expectations - He is not even doing the basics right in terms of effort or affecting the game.
Yes he did take his goal well but he should have won it for us at the death - top strikers do that and he is supposed to be one - but not on the evidence I have seen.
As a high profile player he should be doing the business and making a difference, not making up the numbers.

Think of Torres - think of Aguerro. Different scale but one doing the business and one not.

But let's be Blades and accept mediocrity as standard!

No, let's praise a player for scoring an excellent goal and causing shedloads of problems which resulted in more chances up front for us.

He was on for less than a full half, and ultimately got us a draw and out of jail. This after months not playing. That's not mediocrity.

Be interesting to see if you can give him proper credit when he continues to score goal after goal this season Ken.

well im sorry i didnt set the level of expectations, mccabe and blackwell did when they made him their flagship signing - and on the basis of that yes he has been disappointing. if he'd been any good he wouldve been sold which is precisely why he was signed and put on such good money. thats not HIS fault. i think we will see some good stuff out of him this season, as we wouldve billy sharp had he been here now, as we are seeing quinn, doyle etc perform under a less clueless manager

Why set it at 250k rather than 150k?

Spot on

Also the goal he should have got at the death, Where was Cresswell? Ched went in and the ball dropped behind him just bad luck IMO

Because it would affect somebody else. I can't blame Pinchy, but you have to laugh at people on >£150K per year squeeling about unfairness.

:D

Reminds me of the time Curtis claimed on BU that if you earned over 50k a year you were stinking rich. I'd set the stinking rich bar at 150k :)

Whats happened to Ched?

Started the Pig Game and in my opinion, worked his arse off and played well. Deservedly got a standing ovation when he came off (at 2-1) only to be replaced by the hapless Porter

Then we've hardly seen him since...

Unused sub v Preston
30 mins v Orient

He should've been picked on form from the Pigs game.

Now he's down the pecking order to Cresswell.

Will he ever get a run in the side? Or is he unfit?

Cresswell was on Radio Pig last night and said that DW has told them they would be rotated.

I fully agree. Ched was great against the pigs, and really looked to be coming into his own, and then we haven't seen him much since. I can only assume that we have made a deal with blackpool that clark and phillips would start X amount of games, so they have preference (well, clark at least) over ched. I expect to see him back in the first XI in a couple of weeks time when they return.

Because Clarke is a far more effective and better player.
It seems to me that DW likes to play a big 'un and a little 'un - I like that sort of front pairing as a strike force as well.
Ched is not a big 'un so competes with Clarke for a place in the starting line up.
Agree he played really well vs pigs but I'd have the clever play, quick thinking, skillful, pacey, aware, tricky, team player that Clarke is over Ched any day.
Ched has a good strike on him - and that's pretty much it. He doesn't make many assists since he does not have any of those attributes listed above.
Combine the two and you would have some player - but for me, Clarke any day of the week - it sticks out like a sore thumb.
