Has he ever even been in our academy? Thought he was 19 when he came to us. Does the registration thing still apply for development players such as this?

Have I understood your point correctly?

We hold an Academy players registration until he is aged 24, even if he is not under contract to us, and he can't sign & play for another club, even though he is not under contract to us.

Have I understood that as your point?

If so, could you link me or point me to the very specific regulation where that is made clear. Because I can't find it. Cheers.
Someone really should tell Wednesday, because they keep losing their out of contract young talent before the age of 24 for a fee later to be decided at a tribunal.

I wonder why we have special rules allowing us to keep out of contract players until the age of 24 unless they offer a fee we are happy with. Must be cos we’re so strong.

No player under 24 can move on a bosman without compo whether they’ve been at the club 5 minutes or 5 years. However length of time spent at the club is used as a way of estimating the cost of developing that player and thus helps to inform the amount of compo paid out.

Indeed. But it’s not ‘a fee that we’re happy with’ is it? It’s just a compo fee decided by a tribunal.

That’s where I got confused earlier in the thread as I thought someone wrote we had him until he was 24.

He’s only been here a couple of year, we don’t have a leg to stand on really, we’ll get next to fuck all so we could do with giving him some game time, whether that be with the 23s or preferably the first team as they aren’t pulling any trees up at the moment.

Yeah was just clarifying that even though he joined late in academy terms he’ll still come under the rules that govern players under the age of 24

Apologies, i mis understood. I think the fact wilder wanted ndiaye to be our starting number 10 this season (before wilder left) should tell us everything about the lad
He didn't pick him for one squad and was busy putting in resignations.

Sounds like you have been having nightmares last night ;) .

The club can hold their Academy players registration until he is 24. If they dont offer them the next contract then the club releases their registration and they are free to go anywhere (I think that is what Man City did to Brooks, Bolton to Ramsdale etc). If they are offered a new contract before they are 24 and the player refuses to sign it the club have the right to hold their registration until they are 24 and are entitled to a compensation from another club interested in signing him

Too weak for me. Why are we so weak?

Given your knowledge of these policies & precedents, do you feel there is any way back for Iliman? Even if he decided, belatedly, to sign the deal offered to him? Or is he done, because of what he's already done?

At 21 he needs to be playing games to further his career, I can completely understand why he won't sign without some actual playing time in the first team. He will have noticed that no young players have been developed from the Academy or U23s for the first team in the last 4 or 5 years and be concerned about signing a 2 or 3 year deal and barely featuring for the club.

It's an approach I support. Too often young players are criticised for signing contracts on good money and never actually appearing above U23 level, yet here we have a player doing the opposite. Refusing to sign and wanting first team football. The club seemingly are handling it very poorly which as others have pointed out is ridiculous after playing Lundstram for 18 months when he wanted to leave the club.

If we go on to sign 35 year old journeyman Guedioura to play in our first team and still refuse to give Ndiaye playing time then I despair. I hoped with Wilder moving on that we would stop looking at signing journeymen on short term deals and instead look to actually developing players we have in the Academy and U23s who are already with us.

Someone has to break the ice with this apparent deadlock and that person has to be Slav who has to intervene. If he hasn't already done so, he should sit down with Ndiaye on a face to face meeting, offer him an olive branch by saying he will play him to prove his capability and if Slav likes what he sees, he will make sure his contract will be made up to reflect his worth. If he doesn't perform, then at least Slav will have seen it himself and make that judgement. I don't really understand why there's a stand off, especially as we are in such dire need for young talent in our squad.
If it's the board that is making a stance and won't budge then that is down to Slav again to make his mark and make it happen. After all, it's his job on the line.

It is not just us, other Academies do the same

I mean i heard the contract we offered was insulting. In the hundreds per week category
Depends if that's the basic or the full loaded, bonuses and all final figure. Given he's made one substitute appearance it doesn't seem unreasonable to give him reserve money as a base with bonuses taking him to first team money, well, when he's in the first team.

But for a player whose regarded as one of the best youngsters the coaches have seen in years, offering him in the low hundreds when people like burke and norwood are on abouy £20k is insulting tbh

He wasn’t asking for the world. In the low thousands

Why is it? That sort of thinking ends with crippling debts.

I don't doubt that he's highly talented but he doesn't deserve first team money until he's a first team regular. Surely we can structure a contract like that?

Oh, and if Oli Burke is on £20k per week then that's about £19k too much and that differential should be coming out of Chris Wilder's settlement.

Let’s just play him, see if he’s any good. Then we can sort his contract if he is, and not bother if he isn’t.
I agree while the first team look as if they could not win a raffle what is there to lose same with Jebbison
