Are we actually supposed to be announcing who is manager after the game tomorrow? Not if i read this as fact or journo views?!?

Considering its supposed to be close I find it odd that the bookies havent withdrawn the market, usually when an announcement is due the odds vanish, makes me think its still all up in the air.

Can't believe how many posts I see on here advocating cut price deals to off load players
If we don't go up next season you will all be ecstatic as everyone will be off to lower the wage bill
no we wont brewster could come good but the lad just doesnt look like he wants to be here he is one player we definetly wont get our money back on if we sell same as mcburnie

If they play as well next season as they did in their last season in the championship they will

If we get rid now they won't SNF we will have less money to buy two worse players

a lot still depends on who the manager will be and if we can get better midfielders in to create the chances which both mcburnie and brewster thrived on at swansea all about opinions of course i just dont think either will come good for us but really hope im wrong and i have to eat humble pie

With it being last game tomorrow could United not say just announce who the new manager will be, or if he's there introduce him to the crowd.

My mates missus saw some middle age foreign sounding bloke in Asda buying a case of Stella 'for a celebration' .
It's got to be him. It's happening 🥳

Asda really is the place to be for juicy ITK gossip

Just hoping the announcement has been delayed, , After gossip re Blessin, Clement and SJ,,,,Appleton wou!d be less than underwhelming

If it was Heckingbottom we'd surely know by now.

We haven't got a clue what to do .... the longer they stall the less time to reorganise and recruit players ... the board being very savvy in this respect.... I hope im wrong and I'm NOT ITK just a feeling.

If we were sat in 9th place come january 1st, and not rock bottom setting records the problems with the board would be non issues. When you fail as badly as Wilder did the first half of the season in any job your boss has the right to ask questions! It was the results that caused the tensions not the other way round. And if you genuinely think wilder offered another realistic JOC replacement and was knocked back but next minute asked for 23million brewster to compete with 5 other strikers and it was granted, you're having yourself on.
If he hadn't got credit in the bank hed have been sacked in October.
With respect, unless you're privy to information behind the scenes, you have no idea whether Wilder did or didn't have more than one player he wanted for JOC replacement. You also have no idea whether there were tensions before the results deteriorated, I suspect that there may well have been re recruitment but when results are good that covers over problems until the results deteriorate. Hindsight's a wonderful thing, but I recall most Blades were delighted we'd signed Brewster and also that we recognised we did need another forward because it Mouset was starting to fade out last season and we needed pace up top. It's not worked out, but for Swansea Brewster looked a real handful. I'm not saying Wilder couldn't have done better, recruitment could have been better, more use of foreign markets with greater value, but you;ve got to recognise that up to last summer Wilder's recruitment of domestic players bar one or two had worked very well.

I've said this previously, but on our wage budget it's difficult to improve on the players we had, certainly in this country as proved by how many players we missed out on - Watkins, Robinson and Cash, but we failed with all three. I think Watkins and Cash were possibly always destined to go to Villa, but Robinson was much more realistic and we lost out on him to a newly promoted side, albeit a wealthy one.

Yes the results caused tensions, no one can deny that. You mention credit in the bank, otherwise he'd have gone in October. You could be right there, but I'd say that Wilder deserved that credit given we were in League One when he arrived, he took us up twice in three seasons and then keeps us in the top 7 for almost all the season. No one in their right mind would have predicted the season we've just had, so many players dropped their level compared to last season, for those that say try another system, I don't think that would have made a jot of difference, given injuries and how so many players dropped from last season. Also, and I think we can all agree on this, I can't recall, other than under Bassett, the fanbase so united with the manager and the team. We'll have other good managers and players, no doubt success at times, but the bond Wilder had with the fans, that will be hard to replicate. Finally, before Wilder left most of the fans on here were desperate from him to stay I believe. Now he's gone it seems many are critical of his last season with us. Are these the same people as before who wanted Wilder to stay or is it just that more critical fans are having their say now he's gone?

This is an interesting point.

I think with Wilder people had a lot of faith that with him the club were in good hands in the long term. I would have been happy to lock him down for 10 years as manager.

So it was easy to accept some short term misgivings because you still retained faith that he would be the guy to bring you back if it didn't go to plan. We and and he would come back stronger and benefit from the experience.

This comfort blanket got removed when he withdrew his long term commitment and therefore what you looked on as a bump in the road which could be fixed became the end of the road that couldn't. At least not by the same guy.

That's my logic anyway. I have been a big Wilder fan but as many have pointed out, we are primarily Sheffield United fans despite how much we bought into 'one of our own'.

On reflection I'm disappointed he couldn't find a way to continue. I still think we are his best route for success at a sustained level and he'll only realise what freedoms he had at BDTBL when he starts interviewing with other clubs.

Excellent point.

It's like your wife/girlfriend/boyfriend - you put up with their foibles like leaving shoes everywhere, moaning a lot, making shit decisions when it comes to buying stuff, slagging off your parents - because you're in a long term relationship and know you share a common goal.

Once that person shows they're no longer committed than those little annoyances become major sources of angst.

Like a jilted lover, I think we'll all be a little more pragmatic when the next manager lands and will be less likely to put up with any annoyances - which is both bad and good I guess...

If we aren’t announcing a new manager in the next few days, then you have to wonder what is going on. We’re 2.5 months since it was confirmed CW went, with it presumably been on the cards for some time before. That’s plenty of time to get ducks in a row.

One assumes there's either a contractual obligation or we've just not been able to get a deal closed...

Nixon says that should CW turn WBA down they could go for Dingles manager or turn their attentions to Jokanovic

If there's any good news, West Brom want to offer £25k/week salary which surely won't turn Jokanovic's head

Also says CW not keen and wants to wait for a PL job

CW wants a PL job? He might be waiting a while for that.

Agree....the media (and people) these days want to put people in boxes.

He’s ex Sheffield United (and a big fan), northern accent, big no nonsense personality, great motivator, players are organised and work hard,
many pundits (lazily) say Wilder plays route 1 long ball stuff........so he’s been put in the Neil Warnock box.

There was no rush by a single PL club to appoint Warnock and I think it will be exactly the same with Wilder.
The fans would great his appointment in the same way as us appointing Appleton or the Crowley brothers.
He’s seen as a 1 hit wonder but doesn’t really register in the management world.....has no longevity and little experience of top league football.

I really believe West Brom (decent sized club with realistic ambitions of promotion) is the best offer Wilder will receive or can expect to receive.

Good luck with that Chris! Deluded if he thinks anyone in the PL will take that punt after this season.

Have to agree. No way a PL club comes in for him after this season.

Also don’t think it’s necessarily lazy to suggest Wilder plays route one stuff. From about Jan 2020 onwards we played a lot of hoof-ball.

Football moves on fast and people only seem to remember your most recent season. A club like WBA would be the perfect opportunity to rebuild his reputation.

Maybe Burnley if Dyche goes to Palace. Wilder has already met Burnley's owners.

Burnley's owners are US investors who have saddled the club with debt. Their decisions will be based solely on Premier League survival. Wilder would be a major risk to them. They'd be much more comfortable trying to get a proven commodity.
