"Philippe Clement is tight-lipped, but it is no longer out of the question that he will soon be leaving Club Brugge again. The success trainer of blue-black has made a name for himself in Europe and could start in England.

Clement was recently linked with a move to Sheffield United. And the interest of the English is serious. The Premier League low flyer will soon be relegated to the second division, but is determined to return to the highest level stronger in the long term.

The Sheffield Board is working on the future. With the arrival of a new coach and new players, a breath of fresh air must blow through the club. Inquiry with some British sources tells us that Clement is one of the top candidates to become the new trainer of Sheffield United."

I know we’ve been very shit, but relation to the serving division seems harsh.

PurpleRain heard anything on the grapevine? Haha
Before Club Brugge has won the title I don’t think any decision will be taken. It would be very unprofessional of him to deal with his personal future in the middle of the championship play off and it would be very unlike him. He is the type of guy both in his days as player as now to put the team first and not draw headlines to the individual. I have a good feeling about this story, it would totally make sense. Clement has won everything in Belgium and has out grown the league. He has links with us and Van Winckel, I believe in the last season of his career at Beerschot Van Winckel was involved in our set up. Would be a great sign of ambition I think.

He was holding on to some at the sides, for dear life.

Joking aside, he does sound a great prospect. My only question really is why would he come to us if he's achieved regular Champions League spots?
It’s a great challenge, if he wins promotion, he can live every foreign manager’s dream in the PL. If he has success in England he will also no doubt become the manager of the Belgian national team. Would be some career path.

True. I suppose if nobody in the PL is willing to give him a chance, the next best bet is a team who have just been relegated from it.

Really intrigued by this one anyway. Would much prefer this type of manager than any of the English candidates who have achieved nothing.

I guess it’s probably the opportunity to get us promoted and do well in the PL. If he does that, he’ll be on the radar of the big clubs and be a bit of a legend at the Lane. It’s OK being in the champions league but if you’re with a club that has little chance of progress to the latter stages, the appeal is less. Rodgers could have stayed at Celtic but wanted a bigger challenge.

I’m not too bothered if he wants to use us as a stepping stone. Most managers only stay for 4-5 years at a club, even if they’re successful. If he did four years and it resulted in us having a couple of good seasons in the PL, good enough for him to go to somewhere like Spurs, he could go with my blessing. He wouldn’t be the first manager to come to Sheffield and decide he really likes it though. If he does, he might end up staying longer, we do seem to have that effect on players and managers.

Parachute payments give us top three transfer budget, top three budget to pay managerial wages and make us arguably the top job in the league. Why are we rummaging in the bargain bin? 🥴

At Chapel St Leonards there used to be a shop called "Rummages"

It attracted women to rummage about in a pile of old crap until they find the tackiest, ugliest piece of crap, and then buy it.

These women are flabbergasted at how cheap it is for a dozen used baby dummies or something equally pointless, and they can't resist such a bargain. I just can't help but think "Sheffield United" whenever I used to see them all cackling together about what they consider to be money well spent.

Or could he go with your Blessin?;)

You may disagree but I'm sure most wouldn't.

When he got the job it was the prime example of the cheap option after various highly paid, for that level, flops and the fact he was a Blade was an added bonus.

He turned out amazing and is my favourite Blades manager of all time but let's not rewrite history and claim we were all ecstatic about a manager that had never managed above League 2.
I'm rewriting nothing I'd followed his career and when we got him was happy, there was bugger all else on the market what he did was wonderful for us as a club and fans. It was a shame it ended so bad he was a great manager the best? no that will always be John Harris.

You haven't been listening, there is no money.
Wilder's recruitment decisions have long term consequences and frittered away the parachute payments.

It looks like Club Brugge play their final play-off game on the 23rd May, same day as our last game of the season. The timing fits very well in that regard.

We’ve spent them already? Presumably then we still have the TV money in the bank?

(If we’re throwing everything at CW’s door, I might blame him for not doing the washing up last night.)

did he leave through the backdoor the second the fairy liquid came out? ;)

He never fucking does it. Occasionally he’ll take the pots into the kitchen, stick half of them in the dishwasher and leave the rest next to it, then wander off to phone Wit or Knilly. He was on the phone to Hecky for bloody ages going on about Lunny when he could have just finished loading the dishwasher and turning the fucking thing on.

Good news is that Club Brugge can win the title 2 weeks sooner. If they win their next 3 games then the title is theirs. They have an 8 point lead with 5 games to go.

Tried that 😊

It doesn't work 😔

"The Premier League low flyer will soon be relegated to the second division," - at least we're still flying then apparently 😀
