At Boro he has had no money to work with, and he has been playing young players.

His record with young players at the Lane is also better than any of our other managers over the last 4 decades. He broke in Quinn, Jags, Tonge and Monty and tried other youngsters out.

Not that I would appoint him but fair's fair.
They’ve been running a wage bill well above 20m for the past 4-5 seasons. Who’s the young players at Boro that’s he’s been consistently starting?

Warnock has not been at Boro the last 4-5 seasons. Money is tight at present.

I didn't say he was consistently starting them. I said he was using young players, and he has.

He's been at boro? Boro aren't a big budget club hahaha..

He isn't going to be around for more than a couple of seasons, I'd be surprise if he's around after next. Which would be perfect for us. Get him in, stabilise for a season, then look to recruit a manager once blessin or whoever can get a permit.
How do you stabilise with a guy who you want to move on after 12 months
We would be left with twenty strikers to dispose of and a totally different style of play.

He’s working within a rather large wage bill though, right?

I never thought that I would be saying this, but after reviewing the Star's latest article a minute ago, that we are "edging closer to crowning Hecky" (we are a total basket case as a club if this is anywhere near the truth), then Colin would be welcomed back with open arms!
I read that article from the Star but when you read it the article itself doesn't say the same at all as the clickbait headline. I don't think the Star have much of an idea who will be appointed or is even on the list. It was Yorkshire Live that said that Jokanovic isn't on the list, assuming that's true then there's only two names we know of for sure which is Blessin and Hecky, assuming the former is still considered a possibility with visa issues.

We have about that already to remove lol.. Plus would a totally different style of play actually be a downside? haha

So you advocate bringing in Warnock to change what we have as it is wrong yet then advocate him Only staying for 12 months and changing things again as it is right ?

mmm, your logic is lost on me

no? he's more than likely retiring after next season? If it was left to me I'd have him on a 2/3 year deal.. but he'll be retiring soon im sure.

I'm not sure he is, compared to the size of wage bills in the division generally.
2020 wages were around £31M, 160% of turnover and they had losses of £40M.
Despite parachute payments, there’s presumably no chance of us competing financially with Boro under Steve Gibson.
🤦🏻‍♂️
Our wage bill will be higher next season.

That was a decline of 24 million on the previous year. There was belt tightening.

Jesus titty fucking Christ! I didn’t know that.
55M wage bill, fuck me.
£31M is still very competitive for that level though. It’s certainly a play off targeting budget.

My concern with this is how this club sometimes works, by just letting bits out to local journalists to try and create a softly, softly approach to the fan base. I now believe that it's either a successful appeal for Blessin, or the worst is on it's way (Hecky/Tindall or both).

Where we were 12 months ago, the 'Warnock era' was for the SUFC history books, but regrettably, we find ourselves back in the Championship completely devoid of playing styles, fitness and ideas and although we will be in a division higher, squad wise we are back from where we were before Wilder came in; a team in complete and utter disarray with no direction whatsoever and if the appointment of the new manager is not spot on, we can say goodbye to any chance of bouncing back anytime soon.

Now who's to say that Warnock has not applied and is one of the other two or three on the shortlist? As mentioned above, if the 5 consists of Blessin who as we know is not likely, Hecky, possibly Bettis mate Tindall and some other names from the backwaters of football, then I'd rather have Warnock on a one season contract. I could see the logic from both sides; from United's point of view have someone with the clout to get these players playing to a standard befitting their price tag and from Warnock's perspective, what would be a great opportunity and achievement to get the Blades back up and then retire gracefully whilst at the top and with a decent promotion bonus. The Prince then appoints a manager who can then take us forward as an established Premier club.
As I said, Colin should now have been confined to the history books, but unfortunately we are where we are and we need to adjust our mindset accordingly.

Hopefully, we will not have to resort to such measures if Prince gets his selection right first time, should they bring Jokanovic in or manage to sort out a way for Blessin to come over, or even persuade someone like Philippe Clement to take over, but the longer time goes on I'm dreading a Hecky appointment. Keep him at U23's where he's doing a good job and be an important link between U23's and the first team squad.

After last night I think the case is closed regarding Hecki!.
One good way to lose the fans would be to give him the job.
He's a good guy but that's it.
Back to the 23's he was enjoying his job hopefully he can pick up where he left off.

There is still a job to do there in terms of getting our academy up to elite sstatus.i thought him and redfearn were quality appointments to strengthen those bits of the club when they came in. Still think that. The first team manager needs a world class managerial operator in that role.

for me if we cant get blessin or jokanvic .. id take Warnock with Jags number 2 and billy in some sort of role, id be 99 per cent we wouldnt get relagated with them, All 3 know the club inside out, getting a hecky, tisdale, lennon, our others names mentioned is scary
next year going to be huge....

not sure about warnock coming back but like the idea of jags and billy in some sort of backroom coaching roles

I really hope this doesn't get through to Pinchy.

They had £45m of parachute payments in 18/19 and Gibson effectively underwrote the losses on the assumption that Pulisball would be successful. £31m is a playoff targeting budget and Boro are a playoff targeting side but unfortunately for them they're up against teams with deeper pockets (Watford, Bournemouth), teams who are better run (Swansea, Brentford) or teams who have the stars aligning for a season (Barnsley, see Hudderfield for a previous example).

Waaaarnock specialises in 8-10th place finishes in the Championship. He's on track for another one.

Not what we need then.

I’d prefer Warnock for a season over Tindall, Hecky, Terry or any of the usual suspects, if we can’t get a manager from abroad

Whoever takes over, I honestly think we‘d fare better in the long term, if we slowly built a successful team in the Championship over the next two or three seasons, rather than going straight back up.

I suspect an immediate return would only mean Premier League season 22/23 would be as miserable as the current one.

I'm lost for words when I read of people even contemplating bringing Warnock back, this would be a massive step backwards
^ This x 1 million.

What is it with Blades fans always looking backwards? These will be the same ones who didn't want Jesse Lingard anywhere near the club I will bet......don't worry flowers, we will be back in your safe place of League 1 soon enough...

Not when you're on the retreat and selling anything that's worth anything, and are left with the expensive dross that nobody wants. That's what happened to us after Robson.

I don't want Warnock back, I want to look forward - but I think people (including me) are being emotional rather than logical there.

There is the square root of fuck all chance that the person we hire will have a track record that won't be laughable compared to Warnock's. We will be hoping that we've got the next bright young thing - but the chances are far more likely that we will employ a avid Weir than we will a Chris Wilder.

Most managers are failures.
