They do. My memory is that there was a dusting of snow in places. Wednesday’s match that day was called off because of a frozen pitch, and the grainy pics in my scrapbook look that way; but that could well have helped create a false memory.

Judging from that pic I'd say it was snow, cos they'd swept it off the white lines as they used to before undersoil heating.

Only missed one in his career up to joining us, I can remember him missing at least 3 for us, Liverpool h 73/74 Leeds a 74/75 & Man U h 75/76

I think the 1958 FA cup winners was Bolton. Beat Man Utd 2-0. Lofthouse scored. Man Utd remarkably reached the final only months after the Munich disaster.

I think Harry Gregg Man Utd goalkeeper was badly injured by Lofthouse when he scored. That goal wouldn't stand today.

Believe it to be snow as the six yard box line has been cleared rather than scattering of sand by shovels.

In the late 1960’s Sheffield Council had a number of ‘exciting’ and ‘futuristic’ plans for the modernisation of the city .

One of these , which came perilously close to being implemented , was to compulsory purchase and demolish virtually the whole of Walkley in order to construct a development based on the Kelvin flats , but on a much bigger scale .

These monstrosities were built at a huge cost and , having had fortunes spent on them in maintenance , were demolished in less than 30 years .

Thanks to few brave and determined souls , this potential calamity was avoided and does not appear on the long list of fuck ups which our local politicians have been responsible for over a very long period .

Some very nice houses on on Carr rd. Resident was telling me about this plan to bulldoze them all. Ridiculous idea.

John Tudor actually scored a tenth with his head but the ref disallowed it for been all over their defender. Went to the Dony Rovers one with a couple of mates ,don't know the crowd but didn't seem to be many there. Just remember one of their fans been massive and had on a vivid red jacket ; even remember them calling him Big Archie. Boy it looked like he had been hit with the ugly stick a few times.

As you say the 1968/69 final was played on April 20th 1970 - a whole year late, when we beat Donny Rovers 2-0. (It was a 13-1 corner count in our favour).

Three days later (23rd April 1970) we played Barnsley in the County Cup semi final for the 1969/70 season. It ended up 0-0. Attendance 4253.

So I suppose that replay got carried over into the following season.

I bet we all had far fetched ideas that only a pandemic could cause such a fixture pile up!

I’m with you on those 2. Lofthouse barged into Gregg’s back, not his shoulder; even in those days, that was a foul.
The charge on Wood was ridiculous. Not only should McParland have been sent off, he should have been charged with assault. It was a pre-meditated attack in the opening minutes, which won them the match.

oh dont silent my favourite centre forward of all time what a player mick was as ive said before i was absolutely devastated when wraggy sold him to leeds and that headed goal against man utd on boxing day 66 is still the best headed goal ive ever seen in 60 years of going to the lane

I always thought it a good competition whilst growing up, and only a short bus or train ride away if United were away, and what a trophy, second to none.
I have a photo of the CC, a thing of beauty, but cannot get it to load, apologies.
