just wonder why you think that bob all the indications are that it is a possibility ?
Because he hasn’t applied and wasn’t in the thoughts of the board. He can want it all he likes and pimp his name around, (and let’s be right he’s not putting his name out for our job, his contract is up, so he’s hawking his availability for any job), but if we were looking in that kind of direction we’d be the ones reaching out.
He’s likely to be expensive, although I don’t think we’d have to make him the highest paid as per the claims as it’s such a good opportunity for him. He’s also not got a history of staying around, and everything that has been coming out alludes to longer term projects. Pathways from the academy when the players we’re talking about won’t be ready for 2-3 seasons for example.
For me, he’s the roof you put on top of the house you’ve built with solid foundations. We currently have some footings and the rest is planned mainly thanks to Chris, but no walls. This fellas a roofer and we need a bricky for the next few years.

Be a good addition to the 'names in football people can't pronounce' list.

Yaggyelka.
Kernockart.
Jokernovick.

well most reports saying that he is in the thoughts of our board

If he’s expressed any sort of interest in the job it would be foolish not to at least reach out and have a chat with him even if he’s not on ‘the list’ atm.

Might turn out that he’s got a completely different vision, wants too much money, won’t accept player sales etc etc. But you lose nothing in at least testing the waters and doing some due diligence of a manager who’s achieved twice already what we want to do next year. It’s a big decision to make we may as well approach it the right way and with a proper recruitment process

Who were/are the board thinking about?

Interesting. Not seen those, can you share a link or two?

Who were/are the board thinking about?
According to reports, and that’s all we really have, they’re going through the applicants to whittle down a shortlist.
You’ve seen the names being reported and although I think Robinson is a journalistic stretch I think they’re likely to be close to what we’re looking at.

This is exactly the sort of man in a suit, career sort of European manager/soulless Sheffield United I was fearing.

Do you honestly think a European manager would make Sheffield United soulless? Our soul must be weak as f*ck.

Don’t get me wrong I’d love him to be being considered. But let’s be honest it’s incredibly unlikely, and then when it doesn’t happen folk will turn their frustration on the club.
If he does come in for an interview then great, everyone’s a winner.
Yet he’s said he’d be interested in speaking to us. Ain’t that a way of applying ?!

No, it isn't is it?
It was huge news because we're in the Premier League, yet he didn't apply. Might tell you something, might not, but seeing an opportunity for some free publicity when you're contract is coming up isn't applying for a job. Why not just contact the club, rather than telling the press, to tell you that he's interested? He's self-promoting, and there's nothing wrong with that, I just don't think it helps for fans to be taken in as it's unlikely (not impossible) that he's in the running.
It's like Roberto Di Matteo all over again.

Sorry didn’t realise you was high up in the club and seem to know EVERYTHING that’s happening.

His record, both in general and in the Championship, is pretty exceptional. He's exactly the kind of person we should be looking at getting. Not Karl bloody Robinson.
If it's Karl Robinson or somebody on that level, that will give us all a good or bad indication which way we're heading as a club.

one of the reports is on sky sports site saying jakonovic is united boards number 1 choice to replace chris wilder seen same on another site but cant seem to find that one now to be honest i thought eddie howe was nailed on for the job but i certainly wouldnt be unhappy if jakonovic came in he plays good attractive attacking football everything we havent seen this season

Think you might need to go back to bed Ben. You seem to take speculation very seriously, and frankly get a bit pissy if you don't agree with it.
Of course, in typical hypocritical fashion, you seem comfortable in having an opinion based on your own speculation.
I think if you read back you'll see I was responding to why I think he's not in the running, at no point did I suggest I'm ITK or on the inside.
I'm simply looking at it objectively and logically and posting my thoughts. Just because you really want something to happen, doesn't make it any more or less likely.

Yeah just looked at the Sky Sports article and it's pretty thin. They say "reports this week", referring presumably to the Sun article in the subhead, but don't add anything to it. The rest is a bit of a puff piece on Jakonovic being interested, the fact he's expensive (taken from The Sun article) and a nice finish on how great Wilder was.
They're not even using the "Sky sources" line which they use when they've nicked it from another journos. It's a report on the report.
Sorry but for me, it's click bait without any content or additional information.

Do you honestly reckon if they were doing clickbait, they'd be writing a piece about a manager based in Qatar potentially being interested in the vacant managerial role at Sheff Utd? It's not exactly a driver of clicks...

Alan Nixon reported that he was our number one choice. Lots of people have lots of views on Nixon, but he's been fairly on the money for us over the past few years. Regarding the Sky Sports follow-up, you say "they're not even using the Sky source line", but "Sky Sports News has learned" (which they use in the article) is pretty f*cking similar. You also say it's a "puff piece on Jokanovic being interested..." ... but that's genuinely news. The Sun was saying we're keen on him, but no implication of him being keen on us.

You're free to write it off as much as you like, but I don't think it's ridiculous if people think there must be a grain of truth to this.

Do I honest think Sky put out clickbait for fans to run up advertising revenue? Yes, absolutely 100%.

You can take Nixon reporting as you choose. Was it him who penned the Sun article? But no one else has picked up the story, just re-reported it.
I'm not saying I don't hope it's true, I'm just saying there isn't much credible information out there to suggest we're even entertaining it. Fans get their hopes up based on very little, and then feel let down when it doesn't come off. Hell, I still remember Gazza and Georgi Kinkladze being touted and then huge disappointment when they didn't come off.

Feel free to pick up on the one flippant remark I made in the whole post and ignore everything else 👍
Why is everyone on here so defensive in this thread? I thought I gave a pretty decent reply and certainly not as arsey as yours.
You asked a question, and I answered it, not sure why there's the hostility.

Fair point. You just seemed to be taking someone to task for believing it (I don't think you were having now read the whole thing), and I completely disagreed with your rationale. Didn't mean to come across as overly defensive or arsey about it so apologies if I did.

I absolutely can be provocative and dismissive, but I thought I'd behaved myself and tried to give reasoned points for my believes in this thread.
Genuinely not taking anyone to task for believing it. I just don't want fans losing their shit when it doesn't come off, because no one has misled you apart from my Nixon which is par for the course.
Fingers crossed he's on the list, as i said way back at the start, he's be an exciting appointment and if the final list is him, Howe and Cooper I don't see how anyone can grumble.

On that aspect, what do you disagree with about my conclusions?
I'm happy to be convinced.

I disagreed with your point about the Sky Sports article effectively being a thin, puff piece which was ultimately clickbait and didn't move the story on. They'd clearly sourced it, and for me it did move the story on because the question after the Nixon piece was whether the guy was interested in the role. Sky Sports effectively answered that and it was the first time anyone had said he was keen. It felt a lot like a "come and get me" type thing.

I see you've added to your reply to me from a few posts back, so I've just read that now. I don't think we're miles apart in our views. Your view seems to be that there's no point getting excited as there's not much been written. While I agree that not much has been written, and I'm not falling head over heels about it being a dead cert, I think Alan Nixon reporting our interest at the weekend, and then Sky writing a few days later that the guy is keen, suggests that there is interest and its mutual. Whether it comes to anything, who knows.

I saw somebody on Twitter saying we have to appoint someone who ‘understands the club and city’.

Swear it’s said every time we’re looking for a a manager. It’s such a strange mentality.

We got lucky with Chris Wilder and his connection to the club made his success even more special. If he was shit at the job though, I’m pretty sure his background would’ve been completely overlooked.

Think there’s something to be said for appointing a manager who understands what’s expected of him by the fan base in terms of style of play. But as for understanding Sheffield as a whole it’s traditions and idiosyncrasies that’s nonsense.

If Jokanovic is available and wants to come then it is a no brainer. He is head and shoulders above anything else realistic out there.

If were to get him then we have fallen on our feet.

It'd be like getting dumped by Miss World but then picking up Miss South America on the drunken night out.
The problem is that if you pick up Miss South America on a drunken night out she normally looks like Miss Uzbekistan* when you wake up.

*Some killjoy is going to ruin my hilarious joke now and post a picture of a stunner from Uzbekistan just to make me look like a knob.

Feels like we’re one win (Wilder) one draw (Warnock) and one loss (Adams) using that recruitment criteria.
