Someone who likes to take a man on and run at defences, why is he not getting a look in? Let Burke do the work and McBurnie or Brewster play their natural finisher role. Puzzled by his absence, maybe the experts on here can enlighten...

Probably brought in as an impact striker to compete with Moose long term. I think with Brewster also doing that role he’s lost his place.

Whoever starts up top means sacrificing a different skill as all our strikers seem to have one major attribute.

McB - Target man
McG - Creative
Burke - Pace
Brewster - Pace / Skill (too early to say still for me)
Sharp - Poacher

With all these the midfield need to take a different approach, so finding the right combination seems to be the issue.

It is odd, looked lively in all the minutes he has played then seemingly discarded since Brewster arrived. There was some kind of rumour he said summat to Wilder after being subbed off v Arsenal, didn’t see it myself. Can’t imagine Wilder would hold that against him as it’s a normal thing to be pissed off after being subbed, especially if you are playing well.

i was wondering have they have they had a fallout as it has been very odd

I’d be amazed and disappointed if that was true. We don’t have the squad strength to bench people because they voiced dissent - totally understandable for a professional to be pissed off - that’s Pashun isn’t it? If CW is that insecure we have big problems.

Wilder has said Burke will get his chance.I like the way he harries the defenders especially how he goes after the keeper to force hurried clearances.
If the players don't have the guts to put in the effort to get us out of this mess get them out of the lineup.

I can understand him not starting but when we need a goal he seems like our best attacking change option. Something a bit different and maybe get success against tired legs. Problem is, teams sit back when ahead.

Why's that mate?

We've tried to make a partnership out of Brewster and McBurnie. It's failed because Brewster is not up to speed yet.

We've also wanted to include McGoldrick, because we've lacked rhythm from open play. Especially as Norwood's been off form/missing as well, we've needed him to link play.

McBurnie has had a big part to play at defensive set pieces, as we don't have many players who are great in the air. I'm sure we've thought his heading ability could is a threat in the other box as well.

I think Wilder commented that Chelsea don't give up a lot of space in behind, inferring that there wouldn't be much use for Burke's pace. That's the part I think is a bit simplistic. We're badly lacking players who can beat a man and create unbalance among opposition defences. Instead we seem to think we're still going to score enough goals primarily by creating openings to get a cross in, even if the opposition have centre halves ready and waiting to deal with what's coming in.

West Ham's goal happened when Bowen found some space between our lines (not in behind). Bowen ran at our defence, then Fornals ran at us. We managed to stop both, but we were stretched, unbalanced, and when the ball fell to Haller we had nobody to challenge him. It shows that having players who tries to run at defenders can create openings, even if it's not a through ball behind a high defence.

We're desperate for someone to add this, and we should try to get Burke more involved - at the expense of whatever reasons we've had for not playing him lately.

Picked Burke over sharp today so no fall out

I'd have had him on, but I'm shit at managing football teams

I think in the current climate Sharp should be starting.
While it is impossible to know for sure, i find it unthinkable that Sharp would not have contributed more than others in his position, namely McB and Brewster over the last few games of non involvement.

Unthinkable. Several good chances squandered in recent games.

The final straw, now appears to be falling down to 6th in the pecking order, and out of the match day squad.

Wilder, for a variety of different reasons, sees this fundamentally differently to myself.

One of us is wrong !

Burke has been brought in for two reasons as far as I can see one to play against teams who religiously play out from the back so we can try and spring him in the press and disrupt that/win the ball high up the pitch. Two to come on and see out games where teams are throwing the kitchen sink at us to get back in games leaving them exposed to a ball in behind but as we haven’t had a lead late into a game yet then he’s not had this chance.

Burke has been brought in because WBA wanted Callum Robinson but didn't want to pay for him and as it was embarrassing to loan him we had to extract some value for him.

You can tell this because Wilder described him as a striker. He isn't a striker and has never been one. Wilder would not have said that, in my view, if we was targeting Burke for a while. He had to say something in support of this odd deal.

I have no faith in Burke scoring or creating anything. He's not a PL quality player. Despite this I am baffled how he has had no chance at all given the dismal form of the other forwards.

Burke has proven consistently over his career that he won't get goals. The games he has played for us he has shown zero ability other than running fast in a straight line

The fact we swapped him for Robinson who can create and score goals at championship and Premier league level is mind blowing
