McCabe stands down

Funny because I think he is a liar and a thief. Just my opinion though. Whatever happens to the club McCabe won't go poor. All this talk about the millions he has ploughed in is just that. He hasn't spent a bean of his own cash and has managed to ringfence his own interests hence, when the going gets a bit rough and just before the scales fall from some peoples eye, Superblade is off into the sunset.

I don't get what you're saying. You think a good chairman is one who pumps a load of cash in without worrying if they'll get a return?

Didnt know anything about this until I got into work this morning. A bit of a shock at first but I suppose he timing makes sense for him. He'll still be in control though so I cant see much changing for the time being.

As I remember it he didn't want the role of chairman, but there was no alternative at the time, look where we were, and where we are now, and what we've had. Yes there were big mistakes made by everyone during the prem season, and I still think there should have been a big shake up straight after the playoff shambles. Nobody is perfect.

If you won say £30 million on the lottery would you realistically throw £5 million at the Blades knowing you would never see the money again, as much as I love our club I wouldn't throw millions away with no return so I can appreciate what's happening, you'd just end up with a lot less money and people still slagging you off.

Might fine words Bladesway, brilliant suff.

Good riddance McCabe - take your property debts and get knotted. Please hurry up and sell your shares.

What rubbish.

I think we can excuse the thief reference as unfortunate (and wrong obviously) but other than that it's pretty much spot on - certainly if we take the Beattie interview and the stuff about not relying on loans as evidence of his dealings with the fans. He'll get his money back - fair enough.

Really? how exactly did he get his controlling majority shareholding then? I'd love to know, because if I can do it without spending a bean of my cash, i'm on way way down to take over the club!

look where we were

23rd in the 2nd tier

and where we are now

18th in the 2nd tier

and what we've had

10 seasons out of 11 in the 2nd tier

Has any Chairman ever left the Lane with things in good order? I am struggling to remember one...

Chief Exec has two words Chairman only one. :D

It majority shareholder thats #1. hope that helps Swiss !

It does look as though McCabe is preparin to fook off, but everybody knows he wants out ! .......... they do don't they ?
Oh how I bet he wishes he'd never employed 'our terry' and f10pp0.......but we all make mistakes.

We do indeed BB. Several weeks ago you broke the news to us that Birch had gone.
What happened? Did he make a rapid U-turn, or could it be - perish the thought - that you were talking out of your backside?

No, your right thief perhaps isn't the right word but it got your attention. Deceptionist is a better word.

As for those who talk about what a great bloke his is and how much money this has cost him. He sits and talks to us all from his plush office in Brussels, lives outside the country and is one of the 100 richest men in football. The net effect of Sheffield United to him is like me losing 50p down the drain. Funny how these people all walk away pretty much as rich as they were when they started and the only people who are poorer for it are the fans. Thousands of fans who have been told that the global empire was the way forwards (funny its being sold off/given away). We were told that the hotel was a big moneyspinner yet off it goes over the hill with no return to be seen.

For every pound he has spent I bet he has got it back 10 fold in increased profile for himself and his property ventures.

As for good chairmen? Dave Whelan. Invests shitloads of his own cash because if he didn't Wigan would not exist as they do. Their crowds are shit and they turn over little to nothing. They are not even a footballing town but he dips into his own pocket week in, week out. His investment must extend to tens of millions out of his own wallet. He took and takes a risk with his own cash. Super blade got scared and shat his pants as soon as anyone said he ought to spend his own money. Therein my friends is the difference.

I presume if you include Dave Whelan as a good chairman you'll have to include Sheihk Monsor, Abramovich as good chairman/owners too?

hey up broomhill ................. our gert might have been using the wrong tea leaves ................... BUT he will be gone when the new owners arrive. :D

Agree with you obviously but I believe McCabe aint as cash rich anymore as you think. His on paper worth has been totally crushed by the recession imo. SUFC has been one of the few business available to him with cash and he's taken the chance to get out relatively intact whilst somehow shoring up Scarborough with a few sales of crown jewels a la Glasgow.

I think he's having a tough time personally, relatively speaking. Got to remember when he sold to Valad, things were looking so rosy for him and his family. It's been a nightmare for him getting cash out of them and I persoanlly think he's had to use that cash to shore up what he still owned post Valad deal. As McCabe said in his Beattie interview, he doesn;t deal in speculation but I certainly do.

I don't know the answer to this but has mcCabe took money out of the club, over and above what he has put in, plus the interest he's owed?

Ie; is he pulling cash out of the club ala the Glazers?

Quick Answer:

No he hasn't! The club is debt free with regards to anything unsecured and affordable.

The club will be totally debt free come 2013, if we live within our means. KM has simply removed the risk elements away from the club, ie. The Hotel and Chengdu!

Great move. But who was the genius who loaded them on in the first place?

So that's what makes a good chairman? Someone who chucks his own money down the shitter to feed a team that cant sustain itself at the level it plays at? Dave Whelan is a good bloke and obviously loves Wigan enough to keep emptying his pockets but that doesnt make him a good chairman no matter how much you think it does. What he does isnt risk taking, it is simply losing money. Where's the risk? He's not going to get it back and he knows it.

Such acts are foolish IMO, but the man obviously has enough money to do it so he is entitled and if he gets a kick from it then good for him. It makes the man generous, a good chairman it does not.

Did you send all your presents back to Santa when you were a kid SCB?

Personally I stand firmly in the McCabe's done a cracking job camp. Sure there have been questionable decisions as we severely lost our way when we were relegated. But the desire has always been there from McCabe to turn us into a PL side, just a shame that the execution hasn't been there in the last couple of years.

I also believe that he has put us in a favourable position, we only need to look around at other clubs to show that we have been dignified in our approach and maintained our priorities to be a sustainable football club.

McCabe's Kryptonite: Tevez Affair; Appointment of Robson; Beattie; Losing out on the World Cup Bid.

For me McCabes legacy is off the pitch, in attempting pioneering partnerships globally, in ensuring that we have a ground that is amongst the best in England, the UK and Europe, an academy which is now bearing fruit and perhaps the lasting legacy is Speed. Only time will tell on that one.

For those who are jumping for joy at this news. All I say is be careful what you wish for. We only have to look across the city to remind us where we could be if we end up with clowns in charge....

Enough about McCabe, its all been said a million times by a million people.

What do we know about Chris Steer?

Are you comparing Kevin McCabe and Dave Whelan to St. Nic? :)

Dave Whelan = Santa

Kev would leave you a note telling you no-one is more disappointed than he is at the lack of pressies but, hey, there's a recession on. However, due to the careful investments in toy factories and elf academies world wide if you can just wait a few Xmases he is confident there will be pressies galore forever, for everyone. Up The Christmas!;)

Sustainable - £18m loss? Come off it Swiss.

Academy bearing fruit? Explain that one to me please. And please don't say Walker! Players are meant to develop and play for us for a bit, not sold to help prop up a debt riddled balance sheet.

And as the reader contemplated the note, wanders over to gaze out of the window, admiring a snow covered vista, the snowflakes falling gently to the ground, his eyes would focus on the Derek Dooley Snowman ..........

After I'd posted, I said to myself "I bet he'll blame Gert".

You haven't disappointed.

I cant believe you havn`t suggested a Statue ............. yet

I didn't have to, you suggested it for me. Good idea! :)

Whats not sustainable Mic? I'm looking long term. We'll be debt free in 3 years.

Come off it Mic, you can't twist it around to support your argument. Developed over a season, 6 games or over 5 years, its almost irrelevant now*, but we made masses of cash for unproven players who haven't exactly set the PL alight. Anyway on keeping players weren't you the one talking about telling Britton that he should find a better team to play his style of football at as he's wasted with us? Plus losing the Kyle's certainly helped the Blackwell out campaign you sat so firmly behind.

Kyle Walker, Naughton, Lowton, Slew, somethings working in there and I think the results that Pembo saw at Forest there's more to come.

* I still believe that they shouldn't have both been sold

Let's not forget Jack Walker at Blackburn Rovers. He bought the club and poured millions into them - buying success at the top level. Paid top wages and brought in Shearer, Sutton and others, with Dalgliesh as Manager. After he died he left money in trust to keep them going. No doubt he thought he'd funded them for ever. However, other millionaires arrived on the scene, with much bigger funds to play with. Blackburn are back as 'also-rans'.

Now the Walker Trustees have sold out to the Indian Rao family for megabucks. In time, Walker will just become a footnote in the Club's history.
