McCabe stands down

I have met McCabe a couple of times, he is a genuine guy who is a Blades fan. If some folk need to grab their fame by 'daring' to dump on him, well that's about all they have to give. For me, he has transformed the club, it is now a first class operation and I am proud to be a Blade. He will always have my respect and thanks. UTB!!!

In time, Walker will just become a footnote in the Club's history.

Absolutely. Who will ever remember them winning the league? Thank God we didn't have him as our chairman. Bloody trophies, you'd think that's what the game was about.

Now, I think I'll pop down and have a look at that hotel. That's real football that is.

I've also met McCabe a few times through my work. I was very impressed with him on a one-to-one basis as I think most people are.

He's done ok for the club but in the final analysis we are no better off than when he came.

Most clubs in the country have modernised their grounds in the last 10 to 15 years or built new ones so let's not get too carried away with what we've done. Most have improved ticketing, communication etc.

He seemed to me like someone who had the best interests of the club and his own businesses at heart and for me this line is a little blurred.

For example Forsyth running the BEC and the links with Fradi and China and Australia which clearly were very valuable in opening up potentially big property deals and local contacts for McCabe with, despite the PR to the contrary, ultimatley little obvious return for United.

I don't blame him for using his position/United to open doors for his businesses but I'm not sure it was communicated in the right way - it was always dressed up to look like United were going to get huge benefits.

I'd thank him for his work but to me he gave up on us a few years ago and I can't admire him for that. That apathy filtered down through the club, management, players and now fans and so we are where we are and it looks like as bigger road to being an established top flight club with a chance of a cup final as when he first took over.

He got some big decisions wrong (and some right) and got some bad luck with the credit crunch and was the chairman who presided over our biggest ever income in years and yet our biggest ever debt and sold our best young players in a generation off in a flash.

hey up broomhill ................. our gert might have been using the wrong tea leaves ................... BUT he will be gone when the new owners arrive. :D

You don't leave tea leaves to know that BB. I think it was fairly common knowledge that he was brought in to first restructure the finances (now complete) and then bring in investors. Once a takeover/investment has happened he will leave and move on to the next club looking to be sold.

As for Chris Steer, he's one of the owners of Pyramid Carpets. He's been on our board since 2002 I think and is apparently a massive blade. Good enough for me.

There'll be a nice Wilton in the Boardroom by Christmas then! :D

On the mark once more. Footnote in history my arse. He is a geniune legend at Blackburn for all the reasons stated. He won that title with the money he provided. Don't get me wrong, McCabe did good things but they are all distant memories now. The truth economy and the building a brand that was never there are what he will be remembered for by many.

I look around the ground and around the Academy and there's no doubt we've progressed in that sense. Other facilities for supporters and corporate sponsors have improved substantively. I think KMc has done a good job for us overall and wish him all the best.

Is Pyramid Carpets the shop in Woodseats? WTTWY?!

In all seriousness, best of luck to Chris.

Quick Answer:

No he hasn't! The club is debt free with regards to anything unsecured and affordable.

The club will be totally debt free come 2013, if we live within our means. KM has simply removed the risk elements away from the club, ie. The Hotel and Chengdu!

It says the club will be free of external debt. Could it be that we'll be left with shit loads of "internal" debt to McCabe? Can you honestly say that you know McCabe hasn't taken money from the club as you say?

I've seen some very attractive rates attached to the loans McCabe has made to us. Not at all bad compared to what he'd get elsewhere.

What's changed at United over the last 10 years, and how do these changes compare to what's happed at similar clubs?

Nice enough bloke, well meaning, overall a failure.....(football wise).

I think my earlier post has been misunderstood. Jack Walker did remarkable things for his hometown club and he is a legend amongst the current fans. But what about future generations?

Jack Walker left a substantial legacy in a Foundation with the intention of funding the club for the foreseeable future. This did not stop the present board from selling out to some Indian millionaires who few Blackburn fans will have ever heard of. In due course they will sell it to someone else... and so on. Probably there will be relegations along the way, maybe administration in a few years time if things go badly.

In 50 years time the glorious 'Jack Walker years' will be just an episode in the history of the club.

This story on the Sheffield Star being taken very badly by one fan...
