Great signing I think. He's got that creativity we've lacked for a long time (although we've said this before...Howard etc.)

The difference hopefully being that we will try and play a style that helps midfielders. I don't think it's possible that every midfielder we've had for the last decade has been shite at pasing the ball.

Macca must have somehow flogged one of those luxury two bedroom apartments by a canal in some god foresaken recession ravaged dump or mircaulously found a new tennant for one of his sheds - I can't believe it. Either Speedo has been biding his time or Trev has realised we are in deep, deep shit and the fans aint happy - maybe both.

Will be interesting to see how unfit he is, extremely unfit I suspect, but it's a fantastic signing and I look forward even more to the match tomorrow. We will definitely see a decent game, Britton will be chuffed. Reidy will start won't he?

>the best he comes up with. A fat, little, journeyed Irish man
umm what has irish got to do with it?.. i'm really pleased with this signing.. you're in a minority of one on this one olle:rolleyes: in fact i'm gobsmacked that you even found something to complain about at all. forest fan at work is furious they didn't get him already

Agree with Ollie that it's hardly inspiring but he's better than anything else we've got.

I'm sure that Trev was at the game (or watching on TV) last week. He probably decided not to hide under his desk this week and face Speed. I'll bet Speed was even more gobsmacked than super pig (see below) when Tricky Trev said yes you can have some extra funds for this player.

Why are you gob smacked? I find faults in eveything to do with SUFC :D Oh and the Irish are not very good at football.

Did you see his last appearance at the Lane for Charlton where he ran the game for them?

He has genuine class and we won't get anyone better in.

Agree with that and agree with Raul that if I wasn't going already, I would be now.

An incredibly talented player at this level (and a very good one in the top flight). The other players at Spurs used to call him 'the fat Maradona', he's trimmed down a lot since then but kept his ability.

Very, very exciting signing and can't wait to see him play for us. Interested to see whether he plays on the left of the advanced midfield 2 or as the wide left attacker in a 433. Will be surprised to see us go 442 now.

i'm with the clappers on this one.
Quality player.
Doesn't have to be fit, he can run the game from the centre circle.
Also if he is slightly rotund looking and wearing a blades shirt he can mingle with the crowd on the way home and not be recognised.

If you're not remotley inspired by us signing a player that has played above and been out of our reach for most of his career, and is still only 28, then I suggest you find another interest. You've got a very disappointing life ahead.....:D

I suspect they've just juggled the De Laet wages to fund this deal.

Which then probably suggests De Laet aint coming back

However, the fact Bartley can be recalled should they choose, it doesn't surprise me.

Could be a brilliant signing. Wait and see before passing judgement one way or the other but he is certainly capable of tearing teams apart at this level.

Fantastic signing. A proper footballer. Well done Speedo.

He hasn't been a winger for a long time. He gave a virtuoso performance in central midfield at The lane for Charlton a few years back. Play him there with Leon. You don't need a scuffling mediocrity to 'win the ball' when you don't give it away in the first place.

I know what you mean about Irish footballers George Best and Roy Keane weren't very good either.

I think that comment was tongue in cheek ghandi, mind you I do think Ollies posts are getting less and less interesting. I used to look forward to his posts, he made some relevant points, most of which I disagreed with, but they were often good points. Alas not these days.

agreed, although the fact theres another 8 players on the pitch who will willingly give it away is a slight problem..

it is an exciting signing though, definitely in the right direction for us.

Great signing. Its so refreshing to see us sign/loan a player with some class rather than 'players that can do a job' under Warnock and Blackwell. And a message to those moaning about the lack of pace in the team - its the pace the ball can moved around and not the speed a player can run that's important.

Great signing. Reid was Sunderland's most consistent performer this time last year and had got himself in very good shape. He can't have gone that much downhill in 12 months. I'd expect him to do very well for us.

I'm really surprised that he's only 28. Seems to have been around for ages. Anyway a good signing, better than what we've got, a bit more quality in midfield which certainly wont hurt, and an interesting signpost to the kind of players that Speedo considers worth bringing here...

Think it's a great signing-changed my mindset of just going to watch the match to being excited to be there. I'd like to see him out wide ala:
Simmo
Calve, Morgan, Bartley, Lowton
Britton
Yeates, Ward, Reid
Cresswell

Maybe this is a little too light weight, Ward up top and Ertl in the middle?

We've had to wait 3 months for Speed to sign an attack minded player and this is the best he comes up with. A fat, little, journeyed Irish man. Our side lacks pace and Speed brings in the slowest winger since Glyn Hodges. Steve Bruce will be over the moon to get rid of another dead beat to us. Sure it's only for a month, but he must laughing away to himself to have got rid of Nosworthy and now Reid. Geez.

He is probably the only person who will eat Blackwell's missus pies. I suppose that (if you think of the midfield trio of Quinn, Ertl and Monty) he is probably better than waht he got though. I guess that it is better than Speed signing another defender and (unlike 2 of Speed's other signings) he is likely to get a game.

Waited 3 months for what? What the hell is Calve then? He's more attack minded than Jamie Ward and he's supposed to be a full back, that said, I reckon he'd be a great RW. You can't argue with the Forward thinking, but the defensive side is looking a bit aged. Maybe at this stage it's experience we need at the back.

Personally, I'd play Lowton, Morgan, Bartley and Jordan at the back. It's solid but prone to mistakes.

Who said that we are paying his wages? Maybe Bruce let him out on loan to get fit for the Xmas period and may extend that if he has no other injuries in the meantime. It's caution from The Prem side and caution from us also.

Good signing, business and football sense ;)

Great signing. A player who has always done well against us but who you can definitely 'see' in a Utd shirt.
Come on Reidy stick one in the net tomorrow.

A good player and all it took was a drive through Sunderland by Gary Speed trailing a Mars bar on a hook. I like Reid, here's hoping he does well.

Anyway, I'm off back to shag Jennifer Aniston, while driving my Ferrari down Fargate.

All my posts are positive Highbury.......

Obviously I'm not shagging Jen, in a Ferrari, Fiesta, Sanella's van or otherwise, but please note that I didn't start the bullshit.;)

Time will tell on what sort of impact Reid has on Blades, but, very positive signing for me. Always been a tidy midfielder, good left foot, good carrying ball forward and decent shot. His vast experience will be great also.

SIMONSEN
NOSWORTHY, MORGAN, BARTLEY, JORDAN
YEATES, BRITTON, ERTL, REID,
WARD, CRESSWELL
