I think he'll play in the middle of the 4-3-3 formation. Either way he gives us a bit more quality on the ball in midfield. If its only for a month at least lets rack up as many points as we can while he's here. He'll add a lot of value to us if he can settle quickly.

I think you'll find the alternative lenner-ist view will be that he's a little fat lad with no pace and of no use to us.

I always liked him, he seemed to play well against us, so signing him's one way of stopping that happening.

There must be some doubt about his fitness though.

He got injured in Feb and hasn't played since (he scored good points in my Fantasy Team last season at little cost so I've been keeping an eye on him). Given his tendency to put weight on this may mean he isn't very mobile at the minute.

He's absolutely 100% the kind of player we need. Good passer of the ball, good vision, can carry it through midfield and decent at set pieces. He will take a massive burden off Britton's shoulders and can play wide or in the middle (I would be tempted to play him in the latter).

Well done Speedo! I have my doubts about keeping Reid long term as he'll be on a tidy sum at Sunderland but if we do get some kind of investment before January who knows?!

We've had to wait 3 months for Speed to sign an attack minded player and this is the best he comes up with. A fat, little, journeyed Irish man. Our side lacks pace and Speed brings in the slowest winger since Glyn Hodges. Steve Bruce will be over the moon to get rid of another dead beat to us. Sure it's only for a month, but he must laughing away to himself to have got rid of Nosworthy and now Reid. Geez.

He is probably the only person who will eat Blackwell's missus pies. I suppose that (if you think of the midfield trio of Quinn, Ertl and Monty) he is probably better than waht he got though. I guess that it is better than Speed signing another defender and (unlike 2 of Speed's other signings) he is likely to get a game.

steelcity - i was just writing the exact same post. he will also be on a damn good salary so wont be a long term signing but...

the pressure taken off brittons shoulders, now with another proper footballer in there with him, could be a great temporary signing.

to answer ollie - yes he may be a bit of a fatty, and a little slow but... he can pass, has a proper footballing brain, and has proven this over a number of years at championship level.
for me he was always one of those players (like Jason Koumas, Richard Sneekes, Robbie Blake etc who you knew was always going to play well against utd and therefore led me to a state of pseudo-fear at what he might do to our backline, even thoigh they may not have technically been the greatest players)

In response to the 2 above posts. I have seen enough of Reid over his career to make a judgement. He has just signed and hence how many matches I have been to is completely and utterly irrelevant. Reid is over weight, injury prone and slow.

I never said he wasn't. Although to say Hodges was one of the finest players ever to play at the Lane is a tad over the top. Hodges was slow, but he made up for it with skill. Hmmm, not sure I'd put Reid in the same bracket.
