Mr McCabe ......... we have a problem !

I can't really understand it myself. I'm a fan and so as long as I've got my health & can afford it, I will go. Not liking a particular manager or style of play would never keep me away. Managers & players come and go - fans shouldn't do the same should they?

That's the difference between being a supporter and being a consumer.

SUFC are one of many pastimes that I enjoy and could do when i'm not at work. I suppose i'm one of those who don't feel that I absolutely HAVE to attend, and the bottom line is that i think it is way too expensive.......

But presumably if they are missing "die hard Blades" may not be their correct description.

maybe ........... maybe not .................. but i think a lot of 'long time' / 'die hard' Blades have said fook it

If I lived in Sheffield I would of been there yesterday, to show my support to Speed more than anything, 19000 odd is a joke, it would be interesting to know when was the last time we had dropped below 20,000 for a league game. How many did Preston bring? I was totally shocked when I heard the attendance especially with the special offer on season ticket holders taking a mate for 15 quid (or whatever it was). I bet the atmosphere was better though, always was when we had lower attendances.

So they become not die hards....but perhaps died.

Is there a new found status for not going to matches?

I kept going through unemployment, poverty and whatever , it's all about life choices .....does it make me a better Blade, fan or supporter? I'd say I was a good supporter but who cares what tag I have?

All I know is this forum wouldn't exist if I'd given up.

I do find it quite strange that people talking about the attendance are mainly the ones who stayed away.

I'm happy with those that were at the match.

Up The Blades!

:D

I'm with you Silverfox, just wish I could make some games, but life/work gets in the way (plus a few thousand miles).

I know if you could you'd be there. The effort, and cost, you put into getting to matches indeed makes me humble!

:)

It's their choice. If people don't want to be at the Lane don't come.

That's the best message you can give whatever your view.

I want to be there but will people stop giving certain fans tags.

If you are a "die hard" you would be there surely.....so why the tag??????????????

I go and so I'd would say, if you want to tag me, I'm a Supporter.

:)

I am a Blade its what I do
It guts me when I cant do it
I have gone without to do it (I still do)
It has brought me many friends ,many good times and many heartbreaks.
It has caused rows with the Mrs
Its cost me a fortune (it cost me a job once)

I cant understand those that choose not to do it anymore and believe me I have seen many fall away over the past 40 odd years ,but also believe me that of all those that have stopped Ive never seen one who was happier for it ,ok they were no worse off either as far as I know although thier conversation seems to revolve around kids, home and work .Feck that

52 years old and still a kid at heart and at the heart is The Blades

The drop in attendance as been waiting to happen.Mcabe is either very naive or really as thrown the towel in.You can have your fifteen quid tickets, free scarfs, tokens to spend in the club shop or whatever other offer you want to try.The only way the attendances would have stayed at the same level or improved would have been if Blackwell had been sacked at the end of last season, and a couple of decent signings been made. The change of style in play should have been made apparent early on.That way fans might have been prepared to give it another season. The ones that have jumped ship will take a lot of persuading to come back.

I'll be back. Admittedly I've had quite a lot on my mind over the last few months which hasn't helped, but now Blackie has gone, there's more of a chance that I'll actually find matches less of a test of endurance. I stopped enjoying going to the Lane. It became (even more of) a bind. Yes, there were other factors which had an influence, but I couldn't justify paying to guarantee I'd be pissed off.

I missed quite a few matches at the end of last season through complete apathy. Already it's evident (despite the usual 'glass is bloody dry' merchants) that the the mood is lifting.

as an aside from this does everyone think the game is becoming ridiculously expensive?

Our first 3 away games over 25 quid 2 of which were televised?

Looking at away followings up and down the Championship on highlights on MOTD, it would be nice if you could get an agreement between all clubs that entrance for away fans to all games is set at £15 to encourage more to go and help improve the atmos. Even if it doesn't work, it's a useful PR exercise and good publicity for a "caring, we-feel-your-pain-in-these-trying-times" League.

Agreed I am a season ticket holder and will go to a few away games that appeal. I would however not consider myself to be a "die hard" though as over the last few seasons I have chosen to vacate my seat at BDTBL for the odd game and go on holiday. I would say however that I am a supporter.

I've stopped going to away matches at the moment. I can't really justify the cost at all. You can easy spend over £100 with the ticket, transport, food and beer.

I think cost is a real factor. We are in a recession, and many families are finding it hard. When it comes to buying food, paying the mortgage, etc, something has to go. The thing that goes tends to be the luxuries. Whatever you say football is a nice to have rather than a GOT to have.

Money can be big part of it, many people can not afford to go anymore and even for away matches £44 to watch united vs leeds :o (£15 coach, £29 ticket).

Couldnt agree more about the cost side of things. But if the product is value for money, peopl usually find the money, and cut their cloth else where. The product hasnt been good at the Lane for a while now.Hopefully under Speed it will improve.

also in football there's too much money and cheating involved these days. I think football might spear out of control.

Yep have to agreee.................... economy and apathy come into the equation as well....that coupled with the awfull management at BDTBL spell disaster ........ and the sub 20,000 crowd which by the way would have been sub 19,000 bar for the subsidised Preston travel arrangements was to be expected.
I do hope McCabe backs Gary with some financial support....... time will tell.

Is it not already out of control?

Sky takes precedent over Police Safety.

The Welsh FA can over turn English FA red Cards.

Teams Millions of pounds in debt can tell there Debtors to wait for money while the team in question can sign top quality players.

Teams can Loan players without paying them their full wages.

Until the Powers that be are changed whole across the board, Transfer and Wage Caps and Loan rules are Changed. There will be no change!

Of course this will never happen due to it's going to involve upsetting the "Brand"

Rant Over.

First Post and all :-(
