Has the window officially opened yet?
Not intentionally trying to be pedantic here, but can you to name me just one competent 2 footed player, bar greenwood at Man Utd?
From the Reading Fans Forum.....Yes, they do actually have one!

Re: Swift to... Southampton

Especially to a shit club like Sheffield Utd. Lose their manager and they'll be in the Championship before you know it.
Haha!
Is Reading 'twinned with Hillsborough' or something? I always think of them as being the southern equivalent of Barnsley.
UTB
And who can blame him?His main aim will to be leave Reading. Going to a Premier League club means he can put himself in the shop window so good performances mean he will be a permanent Premier League player for years to come even if the club he was at went down.
His main aim though will to be leave Reading. Like all their players.
He’ll be one of the players at risk of going this summer, I have no doubt.
Seen a few other clubs may be in for him but the Sheff Utd deal is virtually done from what I understand.
Guess it’s up to the player to assess his options.
Dose this even matter this year? doesn't seem to have stopped Chelsea.
Unless it gets hijacked by Villa at the last minute ....A reporter on twitter who does all things Reading F.C has done a q&a today for their fans on the local papers website and in amongst he mentions Swift to us is 'virtually done' as far as he understands.
Hope this is to be the case, looks a really good player and his stats back that up.
Joe asks: “Swift update?”
Think signing for Villa is always a risk as they’ll just keep buying more and more players.Unless it gets hijacked by Villa at the last minute ....

It would probably keep them up this time.Over on Villa Talk the opinion among some of them is Swift is someone they'll be going for if they go down whereas if they stay up, they'll be splashing the cash again. One had a shopping list that added up to 140 million again!

Villa can just offer an extra £10kAnd if they do go down then Swift would likely chose us anyway, so I think on this occasion w may actually sign a player that was also linked with Villa!

Fixed it for you.Villa can just offer an extra £10k /week.
We should set our sights higher than Mcburnie. I decided I didn’t want to read anymore of your posts.Leeds will be checking all our signings next season.
Is that our lack of ambition that “maybe good“ L1 players would pick us over ambitious clubs cause they’ll get a game? McBurnie isn’t and never will be world class and he was a “maybe a good player”. We should set our sights higher. My big concern is as much as I admire and respect Wilder can he step up to the next level to get us into top 8 every season with world class players Instead of grafters? Berge is the man to build around with better players than we have been used to but one swallow does not a summer make! We need to up our quality or expect to be around the bottom 6 season after season.
Fixed it for you.![]()
If McBurnie is your idea of our future I suggest you’ve made a good decision to not read my postsWe should set our sights higher than Mcburnie. I decided I didn’t want to read anymore of your posts.
Villa plan to swoop for benrahma if they stay up. Hoping to get £80m for grealish and sign benrahma as a like for like while pocketing £50m. If they succeed, I don’t think they will be worse off. Only obstacle is if Lampard follows his interest up, and I think he will because A/ After his spell in the championship last year. B/ He’s a very level headed bloke, despite his succes. Snobbery is not part of his makeup. A lot will depend on wether benrahma wants to chase the £, or play more regularly.Villa look like staying up now and even if Grealish does go, it just doesn't seem their style to sign someone for £3.5m! I can see them more likely to sign Benrahma for £25m! I think Swift may have been with Brentford though when Dean Smith was there, maybe that's the link to this.

I get where you’re coming from I’m just fed up with 60 years of being the budget and bargain basement club. Even when we got Sabella it was to compensate for letting the better Argentinian players go to Spurs, we could have had Maradona or Robbie Keane (Considered to expensive at £500k from recollection).McBurnie is our future Blade56, whether you like it or not! He cost us £17m or so and he's only 24, so there's no way we'll not be playing him and he's improved as the season has gone on, I actually think he's going to be immense for us in the role he plays a hold up man and, good in the air and can run with the ball, holding off opposition players.
When you say he's not world class, you don't often get world class for £17m! Nor have we ever had a world class player in my time following United, maybe Currie was, but he only played 17 time for England so that would suggest, as good as he was, that he wasn't world class.
We haven;t got the youth system to produce world class players either, even if we had the best facilities in the land, young players will always prefer Man U, etc.. So we will be bringing in players that are good Pl players, that's what McBurnie will be in my view, for now he's still finding his feet but as I say he's improving all the time in my view.

I just want us to take the opportunity for once, yes it’s a risk and Wilder is unproven at buying / managing big names but it’ll be the last chance I’ll probably get to see us take the leap of faith (with someone else’s money).
Back to John Swift and I'm a tad disappointed none of the media guys asked the obvious question on John Swift to us, but it seems VAR questions were more of the theme - something we can't do anything about!
I see John Swift has been awarded the Director's player of the season! Never heard of a club doing that role, but that bodes well if he signs.
I always think CW goes off camera and explains what’s going on Behind the scenes and tells them info so they are ready to break the story and hint at it etc. Without having news conferences of CW saying stop asking
I'd agree with this but I'd also say that it's probably factored in, nobody has a 100% success rate with transfers. I wasn't thrilled with who we signed last season but most of them have done ok.So we are faced with having to re-do some of the work we undertook last season in both filling out the squad and looking to improve the 11.
