LEGAL ACTION MUST BE TAKEN NOW

Teams have suffered due to human error every week of every year.

Until clear evidence comes to light of deliberate corruption or wilful negligence with intent, then all we have is human error to go at.

Yes it's bizarre that VAR didn't intervene but you can't go around threatening legal action against officials without evidence of something sinister.

The only way we're going to get access to evidence is by threatening/taking legal action.

Then we can potentially proceed from there.

I think the difference with this example is that it's not human error. There is absolutely no grey area. The ball was over the line. Hawkeye should have signaled a goal. It didn't. The excuse that Hawkeye came up with sounds ridiculous, considering I've seen three different shots of the ball over the line. Where exactly are there cameras situated? The fact that the referees watch went off at half time suggests that it was a signal error, although as others have pointed out, they have come up with an excuse for this now.
Potentially, this decision could end up costing someone millions at one or both ends of the table. If a business lost out on a fortune due to the technology not doing the job it was meant to do (e.g. a website crashing) I would assume that a claim for compensation would be justified. It is not about a decision not going our way, it is about the technology failing and potentially costing us a place in the Champions League (which is a sentence I never thought I would write)

Just going to point out that Villa should have had a pen, so it could easily have been 1-1 if VAR could be arsed to work.
My comment to that is that the penalty incident would have definitely been looked at by stockley park but deemed not enough to give a penalty the ghost goal wasn't even checked

The only people who may consider legal action are the teams at the bottom come the end of the year if Villa stay up on GD or by a point. Now if that could just be West Ham, I would be very, very happy

All those teams would have to look at every decision given in every game in which they have played as well. Have any of them benefited from incorrect decisions?

On the face of it Villa benefited yesterday. But have they been on the wrong end of decisions in other games?

Even something as inocuous as a wrongly awarded throw close to the half way line alters the course of a game.

Agree on the second point, but the pen could have been reviewed on the pitchside monitor and the ref may have given it on second, third or fourth look.

Not saying they should. Just that this is not a subjective call. The ball was over the line

Replay the game from 43 minutes on with us 1-0 up.

Now there is football precedent for that.
I know the goal decision is absolute bollocks. Same time we have to move on.
You could say every wrong decision influences the game, and it does. So the result is affected by those wrong decisions and ultimately league position.
This is an extreme example that var should have picked up. I'm as pissed off as anybody, if there was a sensible solution, we should take it, but that point was in the game and it's passed.

There are lots of things that aren't subjective. Like a goal kick being awarded instead of a corner when the ball clearly struck an opponent before going out. Similarly with throws being awarded the wrong way. They don't happen all the time, but we've all seen such examples many times over the years. And they all alter the course of a game. How much they alter it is the great unknown and is something that cannot be proven one way or the other.

Offsides can be more subjective, but I don't think many would be of the opinion that Peschisolido's league cup quarter final goal against Crystal Palace wasn't offside.

I know you aren't arguing the case, but I think it is just not realistic to replay games (either in whole or in part) because you've been on the wrong end of a decision. All wrong decisions impact a game in some way.

I completely agree. It's done with. Its a crappy situation but it's over now and it's just another example of tech not being perfect and systems set up that rely on it 100% always being fallible.

I know pal. I'm with you. Not saying for a moment that legal action is even a possibility. I was merely musing.

That said, if precedent has been set, set it again and give us the fucking points!
Until football is controlled by footballers,ex or present, nothing will change. Unless of course we as fans of clubs collectively take action by demanding a complete overhaul of our game. That's our game not the FA or any other bullshite corruptable committee.
Sadly I doubt most fans would act.

It does make you think though how interesting it would become if any team are relegated as a consequence of Villa staying up by a point. What could happen then???

It’s unlikely we’ll take any legal action because any action needs to be based on financial loss.

I believe missing out on the Champions League we could try to claim compensation of 50 million (probably worth a claim)
In the Europa cup the prize money is much much lower....we’d be able to claim for a loss of 5 million (forget it)
However any relegated team hope to claim over100 million in loss revenue.

So I reckon any legal claim is more likely to to from a relegated club...if Villa pip them by 1 point or goal difference.

Let's put Fashanu Grobbelar and Segers in charge.....

£100 million, aw let’s not bother! 🤨

This exactly.

We know that Liverpool, Manchester, Madrid etc. would not have this attitude and wouldn't just say 'Onto the next game'.

It's partly why they are where they are and we are where we are.

My one-star review of Hawk-eye's offices in Basingstoke.

"Terrible experience. I tried to go through the automatic doors but I was occluded by two gateposts and a doorframe, as well as a window-cleaner and two lawyers who spoke with northern accents. At least that's what they told me when I asked for an explanation as to why I'd walked into a glass door. In truth, I think they just forgot to switch the sensor on."

Sadly, it may not see the light of day.

Time to sue would be end of season to see if it affects our finish. Would rather we take it on the chin with dignity and get into Europe anyway.

Any legal action would go down in certain circles - Porktalk, Martin Samuel etc. - as the usual 'whiny Sheffield United', 'bad losers' blah, blah. But some good could come out of this (but won't).
Fuck 'em. They'd be 'whining' if it happened to their team.

Exactly this, and I've said before, since when should we give a **** about what other clubs and journalists say about us?

I'm sure WHU have exactly the same attitude, and quite rightly.

👍
And as for you being called 'whiny, bad losers', that's just bollocks.
No one's a whiny, bad loser if they've been fucked over, AGAIN.
