It can't be voided. And it could be worse than July. But really...... July? Not June? Surely they'd be able to do it sooner, even if behind closed doors.

I'd imagine the testing kits will be plentiful before then.

Think of it this way ,the trips to Man city and Liverpool werent that long ago ,the same amount of time from then and hopefully we will be getting back to some form of football.

Some acceptance of the reality of the current situation by the EPL at last. There was never any prospect of football before July if they'd listened to the Scientific advice at the outset. Add in pressure from the PFA raising concerns on behalf of the players they wouldn't be physically up to speed without the benefit of a full 4 week training period before resumption and you can see why they gone with this date.

The Southampton Chairman, forget his name, mentioned last week Government were keen to get football back up and running to boost the nations morale after a long lock down period so can see the report of discussions with the powers that be being accurate.

Presume the proposal to play games at three stadiums centrally in the country still applies to limit the draw on emergency services support.

Hopefully we will be in a better place by then. All we need now is for the EFL to adopt the same approach, cue the melt down on Pork Talk bearing in mind they just had a thread where they've convinced themselves it will all be null and void .

I've a feeling, next season won't even get started, this season will get finished before the Euros, what with the situation in Italy and Spain, then you've got the European competitions to complete and domestic trophies.

I thought it would be July, or late June at the very earliest, and playing behind closed doors seems like the only sensible option, sadly.

I have already given up on seeing any more games in the flesh this season anyway.

The main thing is the season being finished, however it happens. It simply would not be fair to deny teams their just rewards, at either end of the table.

People are dying in their hundreds but waiting until July for football to resume is a bit of a hardship for you...

That's incredible whataboutery. People can be both concerned/appalled/upset/etc about things going on in the world AND also be interested in when football might return (perhaps, to give them some relief from everything else going on in the world). The two things are not mutually exclusive.

It's a football forum. The topic of conversation is going to naturally gravitate towards football.

That is absurd. It can never stick for that long, both for social reasons and practical ones. If enforced that long there will be no country left to govern.

There are already rebellions in parts of Italy as people, who have been in lockdown for three weeks, are running out of food and money. It should also be remembered that the majority of Italy (and the majority of Spain which has been on lockdown for 2 weeks) is unaffected by the crisis.

Looking at all the numbers to date I stand by what I've thought from the start, which is that the very elderly, and people with serious conditions (eg cardiovascular, asthmatics) in the high risk groups should be the ones isolated, and normal life should resume for everyone else. Isolating the high risk groups removes 70% of the hospital bed capacity issues that might arise.

For those who are still wary, social distancing is easy enough to practice at a personal level.

Life should return to normal as soon as possible, whether that's trade, schools, entertainment or football.
