Just wanted to say when it was confirmed we couldn't make 6th, i was happy to see we couldn't make 7th either. Because i can just see Cardiff not going up then going into administration, then all blades would be waiting for Mr McCabe to start the latest court case saying it was unfair etc etc. So Mr McCabe its over to you no court case, no excuses that our pre season started later and we missed targets. The 2010/11 season starts 3rd May as far as your concerned get the team we need to get out of this shit hole the championship is there for the taking next season look at the crap coming down, without spending a fortune this league could be ours, i don't just want promotion next season, i want the league.

1. The Championship isn't a "shithole" of a league and I find such snobbery staggering considering the number of years we've spent in it.

2. Get real. We won't have a big budget and there are going to be many changes once again. Play offs maybe, winning the league? Come off it.

Why is it so far off? Look at the teams in the playoffs? All these excuses this season can not happen again we should be going for top spot.

That's asking far too much. We're once again going to be making major changes this summer. You can't expect success without stability. Setting expectations too high will only have a detrimental effect.

If we can keep the spine of our team, make 3/4 decent signings and have more luck on the injury front, I'll be quietly confident of making the top 6. There's a lot of ifs though.

I've read a few of your posts on here and to be honest, I think you are the epitomy of the type of supporter I dislike immensely at Bramall Lane. Seriously, stop bothering, we'd all enjoy it more.

Sorry please go into more detail? I want success at the club why is that a bad thing?? I am guessing your one of the supporters who is happy whatever not bothered if were up or down, the kind of guy who is happy to finish 2nd?.

A number of posts, incrementally over time, have led me to draw the conclusions expressed above.

To be fair, while I don't agree with David on a number of occasions, ie the majority. He is entitled to his opinion, and this is what forums are for.

That's surprising............... no one's come on and said they'd also be unhappy with a second placed finish next season?

This is United's 18th season in the second tier since the playoffs started in 1986-7. United's finishing positions in the previous 17 seasons are:

Automatic promotion: twice
Playoff place: 4 times (no promotions of course)
Top 10 but not in playoffs: 8 times
Bottom half, not relegated: twice
Relegated: once

If we finish in the top 10 again - which is certainly possible even though we won't win at Ipswich - we'll have fallen just a few points short of the playoffs in a remarkable 9 out of 18 seasons. Coupled with 4 playoff failures, that really is a pathetic record of underachievement.

If you change the top 10 to top half then it is guaranteed that will will have finished between 7th and 12th 9 times in the last 18 seasons. The nearly club.

I never said i'd be unhappy with 2nd am just saying why can't we go at it from start to finish and do a Newcastle, a Wolves, a reading, a Norwich and win the league and win it well. This league is there for the taking next season.

We had a season quite like that 4 seasons ago. Unfortunately, another team chose that year to have the greatest 2nd tier season of all time....

no need for the personal abuse. nothing wrong with wanting success and seeing that next year may be as good as any to go up. It's obvious that we will be cutting back but it doesn't mean a fan can't have a different opinion and feel that this year is the year to invest. Differences in opinion are common and make for a more interesting forum than one person posting I agree with Mccabe and then 100s of people clicking a thanks button or typing I agree. Don't try and speak for me by saying I'd enjoy it more if david stopped posting, maybe we should all do this and you can have the forum to yourself?

David is right to demand success after spending the best part of the last 20 years see the club in the 2nd tier of English Football.

But hey if most fans the club are still happy for us potter about in the Championship for another 20 years that is fine by me but dont expect me to waste money season after season to watch it. Teams have acheieved promotion from this league with very average squads so it can be done.

personally i'd be happy to have a team to be proud of playing decent watchable football.. even if we end up mid table.. if we ever went up playing this type of rubbish we'd be back straight down anyway

Because the guy who spent £14M to fail will have much less £'s to succeed with.
