Christmas Visits

My wife happened to be in Weston Park when a group of players (including Moose, Hendo, Moore Egan) visited the cancer wards. Others also visited the kids hospital, PACES and St. Luke's Hospice. Mrs Eyre got her picture taken with Moose. She always had good taste in men. She didn't realise how good until I made a stab at his salary. ........

Harry Gration mentioned the visit to Paces on Look North last night. It was good to hear his positive comments.

I went round the houses to give a donation to cash for kids and finally managed using this:-

I think it easy to sometimes forget the work the football club behind the scenes in the community. Football clubs are such a big part of the community.
 
Credit where it's due, all the local teams do a load for poorly children, The Millers are at Bluebell wood tomorrow always spend ages with the kids, Blades visit too but, and I know this will not ingratiate me to Blades, but the Owls spend ages there, loads of gifts and tickets.
Same at the children's, my granddaughter at both quite a lot and she loves it when the players visit, she loves the millers and is still friends on social media with will vaulks.
Does make me proud of all the local clubs.

That is great to hear, and you should not need to explain why you include the other clubs. It must be quite a lift for loads of people, and for the players it must be a reminder of that strange paradox that in the grand scheme of things, football is not important, and yet at the same time it is important to people.
 
Seen quite a few of the videos and pictures this last couple of days. Its great that they do this - props to Wednesday, Rotherham and others as well. The thing thats struck me has been how genuinely pleased the players are to be there. Whether its regulars like Hendo, JOC, Egan, Fleck; the fringe lads like Freeman, Besic, Osborn and Verrips or even Wilder himself, they all look to be genuinely enjoying meeting everyone. Must be a nice boost for the staff as well; we all know the pressures they face, so glad to see them having a few selfies and a laugh. No wankers in this squad, as if we didn't already know.
 
I donate to PACES. Sat in Albufeira and 16c. I miss Sheffield lots as my hometown but I made a choice. Climate good here. I like Oura beach. Great scenery.

As has been mentioned a lot of clubs do this and credit to all of them. If I can mention John Terry, yes he’s done some things he can’t be proud of ( who hasn’t) but on hearing how ill our granddaughter was donated a pair of his football boots for us to auction off, raising over £1000 for our local kiddies hospice. He also WhatsApped her with his best wishes. Totally off his own back without being asked and very much under the radar:
Clubs and players do so much to help others and so proud of our bunch.

I agree they all do and it is local media that ever mention the stuff clubs do for the community.

Football overall gets a lot of bad press: players stupid off the field antics, violent fans, racism by players and fans etc. Yet football clubs give back to the community all year round.

A company I worked for some 30 years ago used to have a raffle at the annual Xmas Dinner Dance , with all the proceeds going to Bluebell Wood .

One year , the amount was around £1,500 and I went along to present it . The staff were incredibly grateful , introduced me to the kids , told them why I was there and asked them to sing Silent Night for me .

One of the most emotional experiences of my entire life and to say I was reduced to tears would be a massive understatement - I was a complete wreck for at least the next half hour .

It's not only what you do on the pitch but what you do for those in your community as well.Top notch.

Red or Blue, at Christmas time, it's great to see both clubs going to visit people who's in hospital. It really does put a smile on their faces and it'll be something they remember for the rest of their lives.

Don't know if it's also been mentioned in this forum of another touch of class by the club. I saw on Facebook that the club had surprised ALL staff including Machday Stewards, who aren't even employed by the club, by delivering Xmas food hampers to their homes. If this is true then what a lovely gesture by the club to all involved.

I know it’s not a charitable theme, but both my lads got into football on Saturday mornings as a result of some lads from Wednesday who ran the football sessions at our local school. They were fantastic!

They had kids from pre school to 10/11 years old and they made it fun for all of them. A special mention to a lad called Marcus (not Tudgay!) who was so good with the kids. If a team was losing heavily there’d be a “next goal worth 10!” shout. And he’d engineer it so it finished in a draw and a penalty shoot out.

He was an inspiration and I’m very grateful to him and his colleagues for making football fun for those kids.

Both my lads went on to play for their local team for years. And having been coached by Wednesday they know how not to do it!😀

Just chucked £20 in myself. Hopefully it makes a bit of a difference to someone somewhere. I've had a dreadful year workwise, but I've got my health and home. Others haven't. And I feel better myself for it.

Lots of dust in my eyes this morning 👀

I know a few who work at the club from Superstore to scouts and coaches. And they did get a hamper from the club with a card from bin Mossad or summat. One of the directors anyway.
