Our January transfer windows have always been disappointing. I can't see us making significant signings as we'd have to splash big cash for players better than what we already have.

We might sign backup for Baldock and maybe another striker, but I don't see much more than that.

I can see a few leaving in January, whether that be for a small fee, released or out on loan.

Sorry. I usually just start a thread and forget about it knowing how much everyone loves me on here and accepts my nuggets of wisdom. Anyway my cousins Villa supporting girl friend who must read this forum just texted me saying if you want our Jack (thinks she means Grealish) you are dreaming. Seriously Sam, I bet when he gets too close to the hair drier he falls down. :)

It doesn't really matter how much is spent in Jan as long as CW is happy with the dealings and result on the squad. By that I mean he could in theory sign 2-3 players for low fees due to their circumstances and contract status e.g. Joe Allen and feel happier than if he'd blown £50m on players with 4 years left on their contract.

Who do you see leaving.. I see a solid defender coming in but who can replace Baldock, anyone who comes in has to get used to our style of play.. took Mo some time to break in the center but we will need our back ups with all the yellows, they have to step up. You just cant throw anyone into our team and expect them to fit our style of play. Its not like me getting promoted to general manger of the Warwick branch because Janet got pregnant...

I tend not to focus too much on the amounts, because you can spend like crazy and still end up with largely bang average players. The team that we beat yesterday are a perfect example, and we have an even better example just a few miles away.

So as long as we get competition for Baldock and maybe another attacking player, both of whom fit into what we are doing and don't let us down when called upon, I couldn't care less how much we spend.

As long as the board support Wilder in what he wants then it doesn’t really matter how much or how little we spend. Wilder has said now is the time to strengthen so its upto the board to support him.

Wider said on MOTD yesterdsy that he'll be looking to bring 2 or 3 in when Jan transfer window opens. I rate the lad at Bristol City Josh Brownhill and let's see who we can steal from Brentford again ☺

On the basis of his effort yesterday, I can not see a great future for “our Jack”.

Ive defended him in the past, but he was just rubbish yesterday, played to all the criticism he attracts.

Aye, there's no way we're getting Grealish. But I doubt Villa will hold on to him for much longer either.

As for January, you don't tend to get great value so I don't mind if we do more business in the Summer. On the other hand, we are a little short of depth so we do probably need a couple.

IIRC didnt CW say looking at strengthening in a couple of areas ? Now does does that mean players to come in as back up or to replace others that are already on the teamsheet each week ? UTB :)

Wilder will already have his targets identified and a rough idea of what they will cost to get them in and the board will have been informed. I'm also sure that CW will have been told by the board what to expect in terms of budget.

For me:

Needed - one CB/RB in the guise of Holgate (Freeman can leave)
Desirable -Norwood backup/competition
Desirable - Mooselike pacey striker

January signings will be with next season in mind. Sure they’ll get some games but it’ll be next season when they’ll make a bigger impact.
Wilders pretty much said as much.

Can't see us making any huge signings in January, more likely to be ones for the future types. To buy players who would slot straight into the team would cost mega bucks which we just don't have at the moment unless the Prince has some new found wealth we don't yet know about

Won’t be any significant money spent from the hints in interviews.
Bit of back up for the current main men is my thinking, with the intention of perhaps adding some more cover in the full back positions.

However, the age of our squad is good, we could seriously get 2 big players a season and gradually strengthen every season.
I see suspensions being expensive for us this season so will drop finish around 12th. So steady improvement to head for those top 6 spots.

He did say "2 or 3 in when Jan transfer window opens as cover for one or two areas" so I dont expect he will be spending mega bucks for a certified first team starter.

Didnt quite understand the "owners are missing when it comes to buying players" quip on MOTD that was mentioned in more detail on Football Focus as I did not see the latter.

consider significant investment in the Jan transfer window, 20 mill 50 mill 80 mill... dreaming

it’s a good question. I think it’s more about allowing Wilder to sign 2 or 3 players that he really wants. The budget isn’t the main thing with Wilder as I think even if they gave him £100M it doesn’t mean he’d spend it. In fact I dare say he wouldn’t.

He carefully adds and deletes from his squad, keeping the core squad and the playing philosophy intact. This is a big factor behind our success. No wholesale changes. No baby out with the bath water. Just gradual, progressive evolvement and improvement.
