What would you tell McBurnie?

So the manager can't manage his players then ? Thanks.

Simplest thing the front lads have to do is run at players.

They are as fit as fiddles, think about it.

Didn’t say he can’t manage his players.

I know they are fit, but closing down is more than just running after the ball and putting defenders under pressure.
Angles for forward passes for example need to be blocked before closing down...just running and following the ball at 80-90% While it is passed around the back line and into midfield is pointless, and in this league does nothing but make you tired.

They need to learn when to go so not isolated, and how to force teams down the side we want them to go down, suiting our set up and strengths.
Robinson especially needs to learn this.

“I’m not driving a mini metro, I’m not driving a mini metro, I’m not driving a mini metro”

“I’ll just talk over you Oli”

Your old man is spot on. I’ve seen the same.

Closing down is a skill, it’s not always about running constantly, it’s about narrowing and blocking angles, blocking areas of the pitch and directing them where we want them to go....and then knowing WHEN to close opponents and do it with intent.

Robinson is another who’s poor at it, he also shows the effort but he’s often just running blind and chasing the ball about making the opponents play faster...which actually is counter productive in this league as players can do it.

However, saying all that they will learn and improve. But both McB and Robinson will be on the bench while ever M&M are fit!
Neither can do what M&M can do, and turn us into a premier league quality threat up top to a championship forward line.
Absolutely spot on and nailed!

Here's something to bear
They've not got to 23 and 24 years old without knowing what ' closing down' is, nor 'holding position' , 'filling space', not 'selling themselves', and finally ' hard press'.

The manager instructs them when to do what and he's right on the touchline with a loud voice if they don't!! F.G.Sake.

With respect to someone's father, the man will not know the manager's instructions. Fans commend Moose and McGoldrick for being 'strong pressers' BUT they don't last 90 minutes!!
.
Look, I dont know if we are under pressure when Mcburnie and Robinson come on or bringing them on is what puts us under pressure but like Grizzly blade says neither worry the opposition on the ball enough. Robinson for all his drive and effort is even worse.

I get what we are saying, and on a previous post I've put that substitutes are often given completely different instructions to what the player they are replacing had, but surely Wilder wants them to nick the ball in the final third as much in the 90th minute as he does the 9th.
With Robinson and Mcburnie on we don't turn their defence and we give their centre backs far too much space and time to start attack after attack.
Maybe we need to play longer when they come on and challenge the second ball instead? I don't know. All I do know is, McGoldrick and Mousset look amazing together on and off the ball currently and I want our 'Plan B' to be just as good.

Try again

Oh hum. 🤭

Can't produce a picture of the Hartlepool programme. Old git!!

Hair cut was a good move though probably for his court appearance , now all he needs is a good wash, he reminds me a lot of that Vardy chap.

Wendy dint think he were good enough anall. …….

I’d tell him to grow up and stop being totally pissed the night before we played Wolves

Stop appearing on Emmerdale and concentrate on the day job.

The irony is that Swansea go to W.B.A on Sunday and our man could be the difference between a win or a lose at the League leaders. That's football and I just wonder, no stop it!!

Quick clip of his great header 👆
That was a very hard game for him to come in for, they were probably the best defensive side I've seen this season in fairness.

“See Lundstram over there? He used to look slow and languid and everyone thought he was a bit shit. Now he’s a fit as owt box to box midfielder who’s built like middleweight boxer on fight day. Have a word with him and the fitness team, copy his regime and come back in similar shape. Up the effort and tempo levels a notch and the footballing talent that we all know you possess will be unlocked and you’ll blossom into a top Prem forward”

I love that McBurnie is getting pelters but Sharp isn’t. Apart from Bournemouth he’s contributed nothing this season and looked completely out his depth.

I love Billy what he’s done for this club since returning as legendary status however for me he’s looks the weakest striker we have and is definitely out of form

I can only think of one chance he's had all season apart from that at Bournemouth. He narrowly missed the ball after a defection on O'Connell's cross on Thursday night, other than that he's had no service to prove himself so how can he?

Agreed, but he can only get into form by playing games and then hopefully scoring goals.

He had two good headers against Newcastle, they were chances especially the first one, but I personally think that he played well on Thursday. It‘s like whatever he does unless he scores the winner in every game some are going to have a pop. He got us a point against ManU and got hardly any credit for it, just stick because he’s not a Moose clone (which he never will be), but some sides of his game are stronger.

I's say to McBurnie keep doing what you're doing the goals will come, as for Billy he looked so bereft of confidence the other night I felt for the lad.

Getting sharper, tracking back more, learning our system.

I like to see him dribble with the ball now as well, he has got an eye for a killer pass.

Improving game by game.
