As said demolition1938. This photo also answers another question, can't remember by who, which was, what buildings stood where the Egg Box was, partly answered any how.Demolished 1938.

Blades 0 Man U 3 (Aston, Law, Kidd) in October 1967. In a football annual years ago I saw a photo of a Blade who had blood pouring from a head wound after a brick was thrown at him. Does anyone have the photo?

Heath Robinson and his Doo-hickey fandango.
also, sorry I have thought of more...
Why? The photo was in one of the football annuals (1968, I think) and a few are bound to have the annual in his loft.bold, I will genuinely be astounded if anyone has the picture.
What a brilliant photo! Shared this with some mates and mused over when it would have been taken. Due to the lack of floodlight pylons (erected in 1954, we believe) and the style of wagons on John Street, we're guessing at the early 50's?
argh, look at those lovely buildings. Luftwaffe or SCC?

Here they are all being demolished in about 1972, ready for the eggbox

In the late 1960s the CWS Bank was a "boutique" called Lift Up Your Skirts and Fly. My sister worked there and I often visited. You could actually access the upper floors from the back of the shop. They were in a seriously dilapidated condition with holes in the floors, peeling paintwork and bird droppings all over. I don't think they could have been saved and as someone pointed out earlier these buildings all came down in the early 1970s to make way for the Eggbox Town Hall extension and the building of Arundel Gate.![]()

I remember The Mustard Seed cafe was on that little lane at the rear of Peace Gardens.

Does anyone know what the dark square area next to the Pavilion was that looks a bit like a swimming pool?
I don't think a comparison can be made with the Star & Garter and the buildings above.
1972. 2019. No change, and same happens now.
I noticed the Star and Garter gone this week. Small things, and no one gives a toss, but they add up. And the shit in town now, is the result.
As far as I remember the cricket nets were behind the Kop. You can see them to the right of the Kop roof. I've no idea what that area at the side of the pavilion is. Very intriguing.Cricket nets?
Yup, just going to say that. Looks like a reserve game. Just look at that wonderful marking in the middle of the pitch.
