we've Missed the boat for signing hendo for say £6m. His value is at least double that from man u’s perspective now so we’ll have to see how this loan goes.

All those other clubs already have perm keepers, in some cases 2 or 3 of them why do they need to loan a slightly better one?

Who would you sign for the at a guess 1/2 million we'll be paying in a loan fee?

He's not slightly better than any of the number 1 goalkeepers at any of those clubs

I wouldn't loan any goalkeeper this season, I'd sign one permanently and think about the long term.

Etheridge
Westwood
Randolph
Johnstone
Marshall
McCarthy
Butland - not sure how long he has left on his contract, but most likely out of our price range.

In my opinion, Westwood would hardly be looking to the future.

He's 35 in October and has been a bit of a crock lately.

Randolph and Etheridge for me if we're going permanent.

All 10 million plus.

Bare min 7 plus on maybe marshall who's meh.

Waste of the budget when a loan keeper there for a fraction of that.

When was it confirmed we could get him for £6m?

He would have been £6m in about 2016. If he was supposedly available after the end of last season which I don't think he was, it would've been for far more than £6m.

No - I meant as a comparison to what Man U sold Johnstone for the other summer....

Assuming they were fairly equally rated at that stage of their career.

I assume - if we’d put in a hefty bid when he was unproven we might have tempted Man U to sell. Obviously he played so well for us and England it’s pushed his value well beyond that as one of the highest rated young keepers in the prem

Sort of agree, though goalkeepers tend to go strong till their late 30s and I've always been impressed with his performances for Wednesday. Etheridge and Randolph would also be my preference...but these goalkeepers won't be available to us next season if we get relegated, which is why I'd go for them now.

Why do you think we want to get him on loan then?
Don't you think Wilder has thought through all the options that you have?
Maybe he just thinks Henderson IS the best we can get for next season.

Villa were quoted 10 million when they enquired after Etheridge. Randolph would cost similar. I don't think we have the sort of budget to spend that and then get the outfield players we need as well.

I personally believe 7-10m for either of those goalkeepers is good business. They've asked for 10m, so they'd most likely accept less plus add ons. Unfortunately, I agree, I think the budget is preventing it from happening, Wilder looks to be prioritising on strikers and the loan of Henderson is a means to save money if the budget is less than what we need this season. I'd rather us sign a goalkeeper permanently and loan a 2nd striker in this scenario, as opposed to going in for both McBurnie and Maupay...but we'll see how it works out.

No mate, I've been fully aware of what's been said. Henderson said "I want to play for Manchester United this season, but if I can't, I'm sure I can go back to Sheffield United for a season and show them what they're missing"

He sees us as his safety net, and he shouldn't...I believe we can, and should do better, I think he's massively overrated and will get found out next season.

We should be doing whats best for Sheffield United, not what's best for Henderson...and this is the best opportunity we'll have to sign a top quality goalkeeper on a PERMANENT contract. Why are we wasting preparation time waiting for a season long loan of a totally unproved goalkeeper at Premier League level, who has been shipping in goals for fun at a post-season under 21 tournament? I struggle to see how this arrangement will benefit Sheffield United...I really don't want to be the guy saying "I told you so" before Christmas, but fear it will play out like that.

Think you're missing one crucial point, this is our return to the Premier Division, and whilst it would be great to have a 'keeper signed permanently our priority is to remain in this division, so Henderson is a no-brainer as our number one 'keeper. Survival and progressing are all that matters, and come next season we can consider our options, but for now, get the boy signed to a season long loan. he did brilliantly well last season so surely the reasons for retaining his services are clear as day?

Surviving is without doubt the priority - I don't believe he's the goalkeeper we would achieve that with...you obviously do. Looks like you and many others will be getting your wish, so let's see how it works out. I hope I'm proved wrong, but right now, I regard this a really bad move for Sheffield United...a great move for Henderson though, he'll get that Premier League experience and be picking up 75k a week no matter what happens to us.

21 clean sheets. England u21 No1. Man United don't wanna sell due to his ability.

But not good enough for Sheffield United despite costing is pretty much nowt. F*ck me.

Didn't he face less shots than any other Championship goalkeeper last season?! Most keepers in that division would have kept that many clean sheets with the way our defence performed.

Did you see him play in the England U21 tournament?! I'm guessing you didn't, let me summarise for you, he struggled.

Let's see how he gets on this season.

You seem to have a dislike of Henderson that has nothing to do with his abilities .why is this ?

He made a mistake in a game he was class in, also got MoM in the game before.

Re. Comments on last season, who organises that defence? Who's made big saves in big moments when we needed him most...

I didn’t see it, but howler in the last game apart I thought he’d reportedly had a good tournament? Wasn’t he England’s best player in the opener against France?

I've nothing against him personally, seems a nice kid. I'm judging Henderson solely on his abilities, and not how he celebrates goals or communicates via Twitter...whereas I don't believe most others are. What I saw from him last season was nothing special, and he'll have to be a lot better this season, otherwise we'll have no chance in stopping up.

Jamal Blackman was nowt special, steady away.

Deano was an onvious step up on that. Take 5 mins at Villa out he'd have been in ToY in my opinion too.

I didn't read any reports, but I watched the games and thought he struggled. In the 3 games he played, he conceded 9 goals and had several dodgy moments ...is that good?

That France game was the only one I watched and he was superb.

In 46 games last season he conceded 41... is that good? You can't dismiss his clean sheets etc because he played behind a great Blades defence, and then criticise him for conceding 9 in 3 behind a poor England one that also gave away multiple penalties and scored a shocking own goal as he was about to collect the ball.
