Budget

Article in the Metro last Friday suggesting Norwich will have a budget of 20 million.
With 100 million incoming in the first year but not at the beginning my guess is we will have similar at best or more likely less. Most of the rest of the wealth comes in following years by staying there or the huge parachute payments as explained in this article below.
Anything could happen with our ownership now including one or both of our owners cashing out and a 3rd party coming in who might have other ideas.

I'll echo what Benjamin Bloom said and Wilder's policies so far. Even if we're bottom of the league with 0 points at Christmas, stick to our guns, stick to Wilder, stick to signing players with potential that see us as a step up, keep a cohesive unit of lads with the right attitude.

If we come back down then come back down ten times stronger than we are now. Think what we might be like if Wilder had his first pick of the Championship transfers instead of freebies from Ipswich because Derby paid over the odds for his other target. If this is what the management team can do now then they can do it again with greater resources. Keep the long term in mind with what we spend.

I have no idea who the specifics will be but we ought to sign two or three players from divisions below that have the potential alongside one or two Premier League versions of Stearman and Crainie - reliable, hardworkers, who have been around and done it. Trying to compete with other sides for money is a fool's errand.

Oddly our ownership dispute might prove a blessing in disguise.
If they're still squabbling and a judge says we have to continue to cut our cloth we'll not be able to be stupid but will still have enough dosh to invest sensibly.
We all know that KM wants to sell. The Prince doesn't want to put any more money in for some reason (has he got any?) so the obvious way forward is for both owners to sell the club and there has never been a better time for that than now! We just need to hope that KM will not sell to just any old asset stripper who has no money but thinks he can get a loan to buy the club and use the PL money to pay the interest (as the Glasers at Manure) rather than invest in players/infrastructure.

In the mean time however it would be very short sighted of KM and HRH not to give CW a decent budget to buy the additional players we are going to need without authorizing him to "break the bank" (which he would never do anyway). To be fair to the owners they did give him a reasonable, albeit not over generous, budget for the current season even though they were in dispute.

I think the first installment comes this summer and there will be plenty of third part finance companies prepared to offer short term loans against this income.
Of course it does. Sky wants to see transfers happening in the summer.

I would rather that we recruit wisely rather than rip apart the squad.

Thankfully Wilder isn't stupid and won't go spunking £30 million on one player.

Evolution not revolution....

Hopefully the 2 owners can settle their differences quickly and give Wilder some time to evaluate what is required.

Because I'm sad I've just been looking on what teams that are currently scrapping to avoid relegation have spent so far this season (according to transfermarkt.com) - Out of all these teams I've genuinely not heard of some of their most expensive signings.

Cardiff - £51m (obviously Sala was quite expensive at £17m)
Huddersfield (I know they're down) - £50m
Brighton - £86m - inc £19m on Alireza Jahanbakhsh Right Winger never heard of him
Southampton - £62m - inc £25m on Jannik Vestergaard Centre-Back never heard of him

I think this shows we will need to be prepared to spend, but spend wisely....I've not included Fulham because their spending was just ridiculous and they attempted to more or less overhaul a good team with journeymen.

Realistically we will need to spend quite a bit, but I would honestly be surprised to see us spend anywhere near these team....time will tell if thats our downfall but I expect further shrewd signings and more attacking football on display.

Cant wait UTB!!
They’re wasting their money on foreign players they haven’t scouted properly in the hope of finding the next Kante. You won’t get Wilder signing a player whose name sounds like ‘your handbag’.

That’s what excites me and interests me about how Wilder approaches what he’s always desired...what was his line ‘I’d be dangerous with a bit of money?’

We're not going to go mental. I think if we can prize Deano away from Man U that would be our biggest fee, but we'll continue being a mix between Costco and the Wombles when it comes to players, the players that are discarded and just need a good coach, and the players that have all the attributes without the brand name, and I'm all for that.

The problem is KMc and BRP won't/can't put the £30/40m into the club upfront before the start of the season and the £120m doesn't come until the end of the season.

And bigger wages to maintain.
The whole point of the parachute payments was to pay off big contracts so the clubs weren't put into financial difficulty. Only problem is fans want it spending on more expensive players.

Agreed, I expect we have to be sensible with contracts and not tie ourselves down to 50k a week.

Why would spending £10-£30m on a player rip squad apart? I'm not saying we should do that but we would have to pay quite a bit for quality.

But, if Prince or KMc knows they are going to be out of the door, with an unknown settlement, will they sign up to the expenditure/ sign off on a loan?
Remember last season they were arguing about putting in £5m as either a loan or a gift to the club, as it was uncertain what if anything they'd get back.

They did take out a loan. Against the Brooks money. You’re getting confused with Andrex offering to PERSONALLY loan the club money if KM would do the same.

Ahh, yes, think you're right!
But they'll both have to agree to any budget for Wilder to spend. If one of them thinks they'll be out, with a crap settlement, will it affect what they are prepared to be spent, without the benefit of the long term success that spending would bring? I hope not, and hope we can spend as we need to, within sensible limits. But will a harder nosed businessman think the same? Or is the scenario different to that?

I’ve no idea.

Christ on a bike... we'd be better off taking the £100m and sticking it in an ISA!

McCabe tripled the budget last time we got promoted to the Prem... with the money involved now I can see CW receiving something that he can work with for his purposes. He won't waste it on journeymen like his predecessors.

Unfortunately not the kind of money required to fund a big football club :( UTB

Man Utd will be holding talks with him, he has asked to come back to us for a second season.

Apparently he said to CW, after Saturday's game, "don't leave me out of your plans"

The key for me is that IF we come back down, we learn from our last mistakes, follow the model of Burnley with Dyche and stick with Wilder to try and bounce back up again.

As I have said on another thread, the main thing we have to learn is that we can’t operate on an untenably low budget. We have to give our excellent manager a real chance.

We have a real opportunity to establish ourselves over the next couple of years. “Come down and go back up stronger” isn’t guaranteed by any means, as Stoke, Villa and Swansea, to name but three, have found. It’s a dangerous approach.

Courage, mes amis.

You get half up front and half In January

Of what, though? The so-called £120m is an accumulation of various payments, By far the biggest are the home (approx 35m) and overseas (about £40m) tv rights. There are, however, significant further sums such as merit payments (how high you finish) and facility payments (how often you are televised live) that can’t be quantified until the end, though I believe the facility fee is a minimum of £12m.

Think its 80 million split into two

Don’t think that that’s that unrealistic say the prince wins the court battle all he’s got to do is ask his grandad do you want a premier league club.

Saudi have been rumored to be after man united and other teams. They’d have one without the hassle of buying a club.

They'd rather buy racehorses.
