First of all Hi to all Blades as this is my 1st thread.
Been a Blade for 42 yrs but as im in the forces have missed a few years having lived here there and everywhere.
My point is with the Camara deal ( along with other unfit players we seem to sign)
How does a professional footballer NOT keep himself fit?
What do they do all day apart from train?
Surely if your not in the team you work harder in training or play in the reservres to keep match fit so that when the manager has a selection problem or injuries you are ready to jump straight in and impress and therefore keep your place for the following weeks.
How is it that we seem to manage to buy or loan players who either turn up with injuries (Williamson etc) or are not ready to go on day one (Camara)?
I assume we are doing our homework before we jump into these deals but on the face of it we seem to fail more than most other clubs.
It doesnt stop you following the Blades but it gets VERY frustrating !!!

I might be wrong here, as fitness is not my forte as it were..

Anyway, the way I see it is that there's quite a difference between being fit and in shape and match fitness/ sharpness.

That's what I've learned from match of the day anyway..

As Rich says there is a difference,

Especially if you're doing fitness on your own. It would be naive to think that these players have just 'let themselves go'.

It's hard to re-create a full flow match, basic fitness and training regimes can only do so much for you.

Having injured players is a neccessity at The Lane, it gives us (and Blackwell) something to cling onto that the best players are not available, the ones playing at the moment cant be the best we have.

So bringing in players already injured, like Williamson, are a godsend ......

Thanks Worksop you were reading between the lines of my thread.
My main point was why do we buy/loan players that are not fit?
Answer is they fit right in!
I know the difference between being FIT, MATCH FIT, UNFIT and injured but just making the observation that we tend to end up with choices 3 or 4.

Generally speaking a professional footballer's day can be broken down into the following.

Golf, if it's nice.
Bookies or day at the races.
Watch Deal Or No Deal.
Frenetic masturbation/shagging of designated WAG.

That's pretty much it. Add possible sunbed session if footballer is orange of hue.

What about going out for as nice spot of Alloy-buying??

Blackwell's style of play means you need super fit players. Any drop in tempo and you generally see the other side put their foot on the ball, spread it around and make us look like dummies.

Footballing sides can manage with an acceptable level of fitness but, unfortunately we need more than that.

I must say that since Blackwell came in the fitness (up until recently) has been brilliant. It was the fitness that carried us through many games last season. Also, have you noticed all the Powerade & Water around the perimeter of the pitch at the lane? If you are near the touch line you are near a drink. That way the players stay hydrated throughout the match. You don't seem to see all the players run to the dugout at a stop in play anymore for a drink lke old times. I think all of this contributes to good sports science and fitness. I might also be talking complete nonsense, just a thought?

Also, at half time the subs do little drills and excercises, when Robson was in charge they used to blast the ball at each other or try and hit the crossbar.

So i think Blackwell and his team are doing a lot right, just the results aren't going right at the moment. Anyone in agreement?

Not sure MB - apart from the part about results not going our way!

I'm not one who thinks that getting on KB's back will make any difference - but I'm equally not sure that it's just a matter of form or injuries.

KB was honest enough to say that even the weakened team that took on Scunny should have been strong enough to win there - so even he (implicitly) is saying the management team aren't getting the best out of the squad. I'm not close enough to the club to know if this is down to poor training, poor man management, poor tactics or any other reason.

I feel that some of the "hoofball" criticism is going too far - as at times we have played decent football - - but KB does seem to resort to pass and move all too rarely - - and Bergen has pointed out repeatedly that our man to man system is leaving us wide open at times.

Perhaps we're missing a good enough quality Asst Manager who can point out alternatives to KB?

I'm not calling for KBs head (who'd listen to me anyway??) - but if results continue to slide once players return to fitness we will need to ask hard questions.

A greater worry for me is the "civil war" that seems to be simmering between the club/management and the fans.
