Fantastic news. I was speaking to his Dad last week (who is a cracking bloke as well) who said more or less that he thought he would finish his career here.
Chris said that before his last contract extension too!

I'm surprised you got around to talking about Chris at Blackburn, all I heard you two rattling on about was bloody trains and the RMT ;)

If I ever met Basham would love to shake his hand because he’s proven me wrong.

When we bought him he had a decent Championship pedigree, so thought his qualities would be too good for league 1
But he looked such a very basic/ ordinary player with an ungainly style when he first played for us in league 1.
He was what you call “a committed tryer” and reminded me of a Chris Montgomery type.

His rise in form and ability since Wilder took over has been really impressive. The weird thing is he looks a far better player at the harder Championship level compared to the easier league 1 level. Every time I see him show composure and a bit of skill, it makes me want to laugh, it still surprises me because he’s a totally different player ability wise compared to the CB under Adkins.

One of those unsung hero’s that should feel really proud of himself. Well done Chris!
Would have loved to have seen monty under cw instead of colin

We’ve got Chris Basham,
He will fuckin smash em,
Six foot tall,
And he cost fuck all.

Well I know who you're digging at but nobody surpasses Ryan Flynn in those stakes.
It was more about the people who say that rather than the player themselves really.
Luckily for us Bash is about the last player you can ever imagine whose form would drop off after signing an improved contract!

I remember the game he got his 100 appearances award which was stated over tannoy. And thinking how has he played 100 games for us and shaking my head.

He is actually like a totally different player now. Amazing.

soo this is just an old story from last week and he hasn't yet signed a new contract

I liked Montgomery, hard worker, used to run about all day and tenacious tackler.
But his passing was terrible at times as though the end of his boots were shaped like a 50p piece.

There’s only been a few SU players over the years that have something so badly on the pitch that it’s actually made me laugh at our own players. Jordan Stewart, Nyron Nosworthy and Chris Montgomery,

Not all players are perfect though and would prefer to appreciate a players good points.
Even at their worse you could never question Montgomery’s or Basham’s characters.

In case anyone should ever think me predictable, I agree with all that.

I believe, however, that Basham is a far better footballer than Montgomery.

Addendum:

Substitute ‘admired’ for ‘liked’. That goes a little too far!

SONG SUGGESTION ALERT!!!

I love Bash the mostest out of any of us and, just like a hormonal teenage girl, I want to sing his name from the rooftops and let him know how much.

How about we start chanting "Bashambauer, Bashembauer, Oi! Oi! Oi!" to the tune of that Zigger Zagger tune. Nice and simple because I know we don't handle lyrics well these days.

I know, song suggestions made on a football forum never get sung, and that I'm wasting my time, and that it's probably crap, but Bash needs some love.

Bring on the abuse :tumbleweed:

Got to say he deserves a new contract but I think the timing could have been better. If his contract runs out in July then why not wait till the season is over and renew then? It would at least keep him on his toes for the rest of the season although I'm not trying to say Bash is the type to take his foot off the gas once he's got a new contract under his belt. Also I can't see any other club coming in for him or Bash wanting to leave, he loves it here.

A big if I know but if we are promoted this season then what? I couldn't see him establishing himself in the first team at PL level and so eventually we would require an upgrade.

Because he might get a better offer and leave?

I think Bash could well be our Player of the Season so far, he’s been excellent. However, in terms of offering him a new contract it is important to understand his market value is limited due to his inability to play as part of a midfield or defensive 2.

He looks great in our system where he has a license to bomb, he covered when he’s out of position etc. but his skill set may not translate very well to other teams’ systems.

He's been fab for us while CW has been at the helm but realistically where or why would he get a better offer from elsewhere?

He won't get a better offer that's my point, the club has the upper hand here and I don't think it is that risky to leave his contract until the season has ended. If it was Fleck or O'Connell on the other hand then that's different.

Ali Ali Ali oh,
Ali Ali Ali oh,
Bashambauer,
Allroundspieler.

I don’t agree with that at all. I think plenty of clubs would take him on a free and could easily match or beat what he’s getting now.

Won’t he? Some are saying he’s the player of the season in a side top of the Championship. Strange to say he definitely won’t get a better offer. And why take the risk? How many key players’ contracts are allowed to expire by clubs before they are extended? I can’t think of (m)any

Not bad for a player that some had been predicting in the summer would be the casualty at the back following Egan’s arrival. He’s been excellent for a long time now – on Saturday alone you could see the confidence as he just seemed to glide past his man right at the South Stand touchline with what looked like impossible space to work with, and made it look completely simple. Has touch a big impact on the mentality of our attacking at times.

Daft as it sounds maybe our most influential player. Mature attitude, work horse, influential player

As the original and only member of the Basham fan club, i can honestly say i don't mind all you lot jumping on my Basham fan club band wagon.

And honestly i am not sat here with a cigar and a big smug smile on my face.

Well done Bash next stop Blades legend.

Oh and i told you so :)
