Nah not at all too many glass half empty blades around and i been around a few years and seen all the fails we need to be postitive and create a fucking tasty atmosphere like in the past..it will help the lads But it wont happen.. Not me being negative but realistic

My post was aimed more at the being cautious over Friday rather than knocking United.

Apologies if I misunderstood your point. I'm just slightly surprised at how many Blades seem complacent about Friday, both in terms of people i speak to, and across all social media.
We’re not being complacent Dav. They, like myself, see us as a better football team and the league shows that.

If we can’t go into this derby full of confidence against a shower of shite then we may aswell pack up as fans now.

I don’t mind the cautious approach from fans like yourself but don’t stop those who think we’re a far superior team than them from saying so on here or wherever and coming to the conclusion we’re being like those wankers at S6 because we aren’t, we’re simply a better team and that’s being pragmatic. :)

Including 91-92

At Bramall Lane:-

United wins 4 Draws 7 Wednesday wins 1

At Hillsborough:-

United wins 4 Draws 3 Wednesday wins 6

At Wembley:-

Wednesday wins 1

Total = 8 wins each with 10 draws
Not yet but sure I will be the closer it gets.

First time in a long time we have been clear favorites to win, think back over the last 25 plus years worth of derbies to 1991-92 and that lot have pretty much always been favorites but we have held our own winning 8 drawing 10 and losing 6 and they have only beaten us once at BDTBL in that time, in fact they have only won 4 times at the Lane in the last 100 years in the league!

I much prefer being the under-dog in derbies but it is what it is....the difference is Chris Wilder!

Worst possible pre Derby scenario

We are overwhelming favourites
They're in turmoil
Our inability to defend when we need to
Them having a rest last Saturday when we had a tough game

What could possibly go wrong ?

They have only won twice at the lane in the last 51 years, half their squad is injured they only have kids left, they have lost their last four games, they haven't kept a clean sheet all season, we have scored at least one in every game at the lane so far this season, we are 3rd in the table 10pts and 14 places clear of that lot................. what could possibly go wrong ?

Not nervous in the slightest.

We’re a better team than the by far and we’ll show it on Friday.

They’re relegation fodder and we’re chasing automatic, play-offs minimum.

They’re really really shit and we’re challenging at the top and will continue to do so.

I’ll be disappointed if we don’t get at least three to their nil.

Well said .

I can barely believe that 64 % of members are pissing their knickers about playing that shower of shit from South Wortley .

The worst that could possibly happen is a draw . I know this will make them feel they have just won the European Champions League, at which point you should simply pull out a copy of the league table and point out that we still have an excellent chance of being promoted and they have an even better one of being relegated .

I was quoting league stats....

Crikey!

That’s the kind of logic you lot would rip apart a Wednesday fan for.

FA Cup Semi Finals at Wembley don’t count.

Remind me, is it a league or a cup game on Friday?

If we draw them in the Cup then by all means roll out the Cup stats where Wednesday have a far superior record.....

I want to be really confident but every time I'm confident we blow it , so I'm quietly confident.

I feel quite steady. I suppose it is down to experience having missed only two competitive Sheffield derbies (both in 1980) over the last 48 years. No doubt I will be starting to feel nervous before the kick off.

The notable up and downs experiences I have had

Sub Tudor Sinks Owls
0-0 draw on Easter Monday 1971
Boxing Day
The double in 1991/92
Wembley in 1993
Add to that lot Bill Punton scoring the winner in front of the Kop !

why be worried

theyve won once here since colour tv was brought in

and come here with much better teams

it really is bogey ground for them

I've just had the Footballing Gods on the phone. They tell me that your comments have been noted. :)

I personally think, after consulting the chips on both my shoulders ;), that they aren't as bad a side as their results suggest and have more than enough to both stop us playing and to cause us problems.

I also think that unless our best 11 starts, we aren't as good as a lot of people think we are.

I don't think it will be the pleasant night that a lot of people feel it will be. I think that they'll score at least 1, and we might need to score 3 to be sure of a win.

Do not enjoy this fixture one bit. I heard a stat that Jos has so far not lost a Yorkshire derby. He has either drawn or won them. We rarely do well on Sky. Even another nil nil draw will be a 'massive' result (win) in their eyes. My head tells me we should win. But my heart (being a Blade for 50 years) tells me we could just as easily lose. Roll on ten pm Friday night.

'If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same; '

Unfortunately this is the one fixture I cant do that.

I used to get really nervous for pretty much about a week before.

But now, not really, my guts are churning pretty much all the time anyway these days.

But I'm still a Blade, I still want us to fucking win. But we can't get complacent. We are currently the better side, they are wounded and a wounded animal, even a Pig, can fucking bite.

So to CW and the players, it would be nice if you could give a broken old Crab a bit of a smile on Friday night.

I was nervous but talked it over with my son, the return of Bash and Duffy makes me more confident. Also if the worse did happen then it's against form and there will still be a huge gap becoming a chasm.
I would say it's a don't lose game for them as if they do lose they are in a relegation situation so they will turn up therefore they will be nervous too and not wanting to go five straight defeats.

Stats say the football gods don't like to see owls win at the Lane. Or do the double as they've only won one double since world war 1

I'm struggling with that logic Jon. I'd say at this moment in time, a win pretty much means the same to both clubs. 3 points and local bragging rights for the supporters.

OK a win pretty much means the same to both clubs. However, a loss for Wednesday could have a big impact e.g. final nail in Jos' coffin. Whereas a loss for us damages our ego but that's about it. That's my logic and i'm sticking to it haha

ha, fair enough. Mind you, a nail in the coffin of Jos could well turn their season around! So let's call it a win win... unless it's a draw.

Nic, it's no good you putting a smiley on the end of your comment about 'Footballing Gods'.

If you're hearing voices then that's another matter. It might be that after many years of false dawns, misaligned hope, believing that the impossible was possible, you've finally succumbed to that very intimate malaise known as 'Bladesitus'. It seems that one or two of our Chairmen have also been afflicted by this little discussed condition, so no surprise that you've contracted the condition of hearing voices. Nic, outside of what you hear, here's a little optimism mate, we're far better than our curly-tailed bredren from the dark side, and if we enter the grand old arena of Bramall Lane with the attitude that we know Wilder will instil in the team, then we'll put the fuckers to the sword, if you'll excuse the inappropriate metaphor. UTMB!

It's natural for any real blade to feel nervous. If you look at it from a neutral perspective, we SHOULD beat them. All this "we're third, they're in a relegation battle" is true but irrelevant because it's a derby. If their players have a shred of self respect they will be right up for it. What gives me confidence is the fact our manager AND captain are blade through and through and would drag their nutsacks through a mile of broken glass and rusty nails to beat the filthy pigs. We can be confident every man in that starting blades 11 will be bang up for it.

Come on you Blades!!

If Gary Weaver is the commentator he normally jinxes us for some reason. Chezzy away in the promotion season is the only time I recall us winning when he had the mic. The rest of the times he has commentated since - Brizzle, Birmingham, Cardiff and Villa [I think] at home, then Derby away we have been suckered or just played a bit crap.

We fair a bit better with Daniel Mann or Bill Leslie.

Not really what you said is it?

And whether it is cup or league is irrelevant. Unless you are suggesting United don’t try as hard if it’s a cup game?

And I don’t agree that Wednesday have pretty much always been favourites. Wednesday were favourites in the 90’s.

Since 2000, the first time Wednesday have been favourites for a Derby match was at Hillsborough last season.

I referenced "league" in my first post and it's got absolutely nothing to do with effort, what a strange thing to say??

Not really sure where you are going with your line of posting but it sounds like you are trying to provoke a reaction....if you don't agree then that's absolutely fine....let's move on eh and look forward to Friday, doesn't matter a single bit what happened in the past....

I’m not trying to get a reaction. I was just pointing out that you said since 91/92 United had the upper hand in derby matches and that you were wrong.

You also said that Wednesday have been the favourite for most derby matches since then and that is clearly wrong as well.

There’s no point scoring on my part by saying that because the club that had the better team would generally have been the favourite in a derby match. Wednesday haven’t had that since 2000, apart from the 2012-2016 when we didn’t play each other.
