Silly post- to be honest Coco your hindsight quote says it all.
McCabe sold every great asset way way to early. I think McCabe has sold every talented player with in 1 season of breakthrough. Imagine if you and Utd had the foresight to think maybe just maybe if we’d gone for it and kept these players we’d be up in the Premiership.
And if a player wants to leave because his head has been turned by an agent promising him the earth and a massive pay rise what can the club ultimately do?
Sure, keep him at the club against his will as he is under contract, but then have a disruptive influence around the club (who’d still be taking a wage).
Give your head a wobble, if someone comes along and says “hey kid, you’re in league one, we are in the premiership, you’re on £2k p/w now, but come to us and we will put you on 20k p/w”
What would you do in that situation? Every person would always take the massive pay rise to secure their and their families future.
It’s been said a million times over. There is NO loyalty in football.
We may have sold quality players cheaply by today’s standards (god, by the standards of the day as well in some cases) but there is more than one person to blame for that.
We have ALWAYS sold our decent players for seemingly lower amounts, not just the McCabe stewardship.
I agree with the sentiment that if we maybe had kept the players we had sold maybe we could have headed to the premiership. On the flip side they could have suffered a double leg fracture or ruptured a ligament somewhere and then we’d be shite side worse without any money and a crocked player who had potential.
