Wilder and the Brooks transfer

I've seen a lot of comments that we have sold our 'best player'. This is very far from the truth.

Agree that he's not our best. I think he is/was our most exciting though. Disappointing not to get the chance to see a rare player who has the ability to get you out of your seat with a moment of magic play a few more times.

Loads of tears, foot stamping and recriminations over Brooks (potentially) going these last 24 hours.
Bullshit.
In the same way that all those who have accepted it aren't celebrating with a big cigar and a glass of cognac.

Really? There have been loads of paddies about the sale. Want me to compile?

Any

though? If saying these things makes you feel good carry on, I'm sure compiling a list of people's objections will make you feel twice as good.

I think Duffy is more exciting. I agree that it's disappointing we won't see more of Brooks though, but will take to see what the consequences are.

If we only spend £12m won't that mean we didn't have a budget prior to this? Wages and agent fees apart? Add 12 to mid table budget (15m to 20m?) Means we have £25m for players and up to £7m for wages, fees etc . Yeah I know already :o

Silly money.
With The Blades this isn't silly money when selling but it's more than silly if we were buying!

It doesn't make me feel good at all. But how on earth are posts like "This sale is going to fuck United up for the next 10 years." and "What a pathetic tinpot ambitionless club." reasonable summations of this transfer?

Wilder stated that Brooks would not be leaving unless it was 'silly money'.

Is the reported fee for him really 'silly money' in today's market?

I don't think so myself.

It is of course possible that Wilder values Brooks at 4 to 5 million, in which case it is silly money. Valuations are only opinion and its the club's opinion that counts; he may consider talk of 20m+ as just unrealistic fan-drivel.

Is there a possibility that Brooks could be loaned back to us for the season IF this was the case 12 million plus another 3 on top will be good business

We are our own worst enemy, fans benefit nothing from this potential sale..

Wilder knows Brooks better than any correspondent here, he obviously thinks it is silly money.

So why not take more silly money and remove the large sell on clause? Obviously he's never going to go for much more than the fee if it's "silly money".

McCabe : David. Is there anything we can do to get you to stay with us for our promotion push.

DB : No Kev. I’m off to Ballmouth. Thanks all the same.

McCabe: Your four year contract with no release clauses says otherwise. Bet you wish you'd met Rankine befor me? Training starts at nine I believe...

Naive. In the extreme.

IMHO.

Part Two:

McCabe: Look, David, you can go next summer once our valuation is met. We've been looking at what Fulham have done with Sessengon and Cairney. You can either play in the Premier League with us or go to a much bigger club than Bournemouth in the summer. You're much better than Bournemouth.Get any attitude problems and Bournemouth may as well be the Camp Nou - you wont be playing.

Which higher bid are you talking about?

Nope we don't benefit at all by our club continuing to exist.

The money should all be spent on transfers as the large accumulated losses over the last 20 years don't count and anyway there is the money tree for those.

Power has player the all the.

Again, nothing personal, just naive. IMHO.

We've supposedly inserted a high sell on pecentage into the deal; 25% has been mooted by people who have been on the money so far. That means we will get 25% of any fee that Bournemoth sell him for - above the inititial fee they have given us.A sell on percentage (and/or other add ons) are ordinarily received in lieu of a higher initial transfer fee.The question then is this: If Wilder believes that the initial transfer fee is above Brooks' potential future value, why not take an even higher transfer fee from Bournemouth and remove the 25% sell on clause?
Conclusion:Wilder believes Brooks value will appreciate at Bournemouth to a level in which having a 25% sell on will be much shrewder business, than an increased initial transfer fee.Which brings us back to: are we selling at the right time? Should we be making the money on Brooks we feel Bournemouth will given the lads potential.

Maybe I'm deluded, but I genuinely think Brooks is overrated...great player on his day, but extremely inconsistent. I have seen him have more bad games then good, he was given a run in the team at the end of the season and we looked miles better when he came off in games.

I'm sure he will get better and premiership style will probably suit him better because of the time he will be given, my only issues is the fee - IMO he's nowhere near as good as Maddison, but at £22m for him I'd expect £15-£17m for Brooks.

No doubt it will be undisclosed whatever it is!

Bert is pleased to see that we are hedging our bets.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that. The power's in the contract. Young David was the naive one, signing that contract. There should have been all manner of clauses in there.

At this stage, and of course I could be wrong, I’d suggest it’s reasonable to state that DB WANTS the move.

The harsh reality is that is that. It’s done. The best we, the selling club can possibly hope to do is get a good or at least fair price. We have.

The big fish eat the little fish. It never has been and never will be the other way round !!

Contracts, as we all know, aren’t worth the paper they are written on. I would applaude the club for giving him a new, improved contract, protecting the asset and ultimately realising a fair price.

Look across the road to S6 and what has happened with young Hirsty !!

It's Bournemouth we are talking about here not Chelsea. He'll team up with Simon. IMO we should have got Defoe in exchange. He likes playing in either white shirts or stripes!

Bournemouth is not in DB s interest nor our team. So who is pushing it his new agent or wilder?
If this transfer results in 5 x £5m players then good move. If its in further dead end loans and 3rd division journeymen then relegation ahead
