Sheffield United need a fit Paul Coutts

That's because it's true. And exclusive to this forum. Which is rather splendid.

Some scoffed, pedestal wobbling.....

:)

Scoffed or asked to actually read said articles out of interest, you decide which. I’m not particularly bothered

It doesn't seem so. I'm sure we can therefore leave it there.....

I quite like Alan Biggs and his Sheffield Live show. Not so keen on his side kick that always turns up about 45 minutes late though :p

To be fair there were some fans who said we'd be ok without Coutts when that didn't prove to be the case.
Interesting, in the article, that Coutts puts some of his success in his particular role at United down to one-on-one training with Darren Ferguson when he was his manager at the Posh.
Always thought Ferguson has produced some good footballing teams and slightly surprised he hasn't gone further as a manager.
I've read that Coutts interview somewhere else and he mentioned that Ferguson came back in for him to take him to Preston to play a similar role - but Ferguson didn't last long there.

Written by that itsinyerblood bloke that some on here doubted.

We can all make mistakes :)

If we get more points than the rest we'll win the League ................................................. you heard it first here folks.

Youre right.

We probably shouldn't of bought any of the rubbish players we signed in our history either.

Isn't hindsight great?

Hindsight? Wilder had plenty of foresight with Leonard and Holmes. I'll let him off with the other one.

Hopefully Coutts will come back and carry on with the form he had before his injury......big ask though so hope us fans don't expect too much too soon.

He evidently didn't have foresight if, as you say, said players are "terrible".

My point being that you bemoaning these transfers 6 months on is the equivalent of telling someone to "watch your head" immediately after they've bumped it.

I honestly wonder what else they have left to talk about until the new season starts or if there are any new transfers

Tomorrow's daily column will be about the fact that our groundsmen are re-growing our grass

Oh shit that was the other day, my bad

Not so much terrible players but terrible business.

If I bought a car with a knackered engine I wouldn't expect much sympathy for my misjudgment 6 months later. I might have been advised to do my research properly before I bought it though.

You don't think Wilder and his scouting team did adequate research?

Your car analogy is poor as well, as you can do all the research in the world, and still end up with a lemon.

I can't claim to be an expert on cars on the same level as Wilder is at football. An expert mechanic would spot a lemon a mile away. Irrespectively I would have got it repaired under warranty or asked for my money back under the Sale of Goods Act. Maybe Wilder should do the same.

You don't know much about cars either, do you? There are plenty of potential mechanical faults that would not be detectable by the world's greatest mechanic, which could arise down the line.

Reminds me a bit of my old man watching cricket. Every dismissal is a ‘poor shot’ regardless of whether it actually was, or an umpiring howler or a superb catch or a great piece of bowling that swung 20 degrees at the very last second.

If I had to name one poster on this forum who was dismissive of his parents because he knew everything already it would be you. Thanks for the confirmation.

Yes, agreed. But wouldn't the expert mechanic then go and fix it?

Wow, Danny04 is guilty of being a Star journalist but the above seems a bit harsh.

He just said 'Reminds me a bit of my old man' which is a bit of a leap to your conclusion, even in our modern wanting-to-be-offended-interenet-world.

Just having a dig. We've had several exchanges like this in the past and Danny is capable of returning them with interest.

That would depend on the circumstances.

I feel we have taken the car analogy far beyond it's usefulness.

All I was trying to say, is that all transfers are gambles and failures are inevitable.

Maybe not. How about these for starters:

Coutts: A Rolls Royce with a bit of suspension damage, hopefully repaired expertly and tuned up for the start of the season
Clarke: A vintage 60's 'Stang, great when firing on all 8 cylinders but subject to the occasional misfire due to age
Basham; Land Rover defender, go anywhere vehicle and as durable as fuck

I like this, I feel a thread coming on:

Fleck; BMW M140i, how did they fit so much engine in such a small package?

O'Connell; Nissan GTR, competes with all the big boys, and often beats them, for a fraction of the price.

Duffy; Jag E-Type; getting on a bit, but as classy as ever.

Jordan Rhodes: 1998 Corsa, fucked and scrap value only.

Why did you need confirmation as you know me so well? :D

To say nothing of 'the pin-point cross' ;)
