good result tonight from the lads and there was alot of pluses from last season but for me it was the same player and the same thing that was happening last season. Unfortunatly i dont think s quinn has made that extra step he needed to, unfortunate i no not to score but he looks a step behind other players and i really do think he is the weak link in what could be a potentially great team. today and same as last season i dont think he was strong enough and his passing is terrible he also gives daft fouls away. dont want to get on his back and i will behind if he plays because i dont think shouting a player to go off or booing is the answer. just wundered what anyone else thinks about this, and do you think that lee hendrie would be a better option when hes back or evan the new lad from watford???
like iv said before i dont want people to think i am just a quinn basher because i really wish he could make it as for anyone who plays for the mighty blades.

i wouldnt want to add a label to you as a quinn basher, as i think that would be unfair. I agree that quinn hasnt looked the same player since returning from suspension last season, but having said that in the matches he has played, he has not been the worst player on the pitch by a long stretch.

He could have scored and played the ball well a few times, but he did make mistakes. Much the same as alot of players on the pitch for both teams. I think its a little early to start chastising him, as for one as history tells us Howard has a far worse record than quinn. He again wasnt great, wouldnt say he was crap either. He didnt look impressed at being substituted.

Maybe both players need to up their confidence to play to the potential that has been seen before. lets be fair, quinn was leading scorer last season. (excluding Beattie)

discuss!

I have to agree re Quinny. A couple of times he lost the ball, which would have led to a goal if Boro had been able to shoot. We had some nice attacking moves which quickly broke down usually due to Quinny, and in a lesser way Howard. But hey ho, a point away from home to one of the promotion favourites, clean sheet and our stats were a lot better than theirs too. Thought the ref had a decent game too.

Agree with the OP. I fail to see what he contributes to the team. His passing is absolutely woeful, even over a couple of yards. I really don't know why he gets a game week in wek out.

not hard to be second-top scorer (to a player we sold mid-season) with an attack featuring the likes of craig beattie. not keen on player bashing but hes not up to the mark.... same old arguments him AND monty in the same team doesnt work, like a negative version of gerrard/lampard! if monty could play the old mark patterson/trevor hockey role and rag the opposing midfield generals and roll the ball six feet to an absolute ball playing genius (ie cowans/currie) he'd be the first name on the team sheet - as it is breaking down an attack and passing the ball back to the opposition isnt a strength we should be playing to.
i'm sorry but i just hate the football we 'play' its sub-warnock hoofball, with not even a hint of plan B. i'm very disappointed with tonights showing.

Let it lie man, he's gone. You'll only make yourself ill. Take some time off, get some therapy, I'm sure you can get some on Westfield... :D

agree hes just not strong enough to play center mid would not matter so much if he was a wide player but not good enough for center mid, seems to panic a bit and make rash passes when a simple pass would do. i think this is becouse hes scared he'll get knocked off the ball.

dont cut bits out of my quote you politician :)
i was saying it was WORSE than NW... it was almost a homage to the man :D

hahahaha that 'face' has made our dismal performance worth it :)

The realistic answer to our central midfield problem lies 20 miles North up the M18. His name is Brian Stock. At this level he is a high quality performer Surely an exchange for Sharp would appeal?

A couple of times he lost the ball,

To be fair, I thought all the midfield lost the ball far too often and they all looked half a yard behind the game. Except for Monty, that is, who was superb. Curious really, because Monty used to be the one in midfield who's mistakes we concentrated on, and now it seems its shifted to Quinn.

What encouraged me was that I didn't remember Quinny doing the 'elpiton' hook over the shoulder the whole game. Anyone else notice? He was trying to play to feet more; they all were. Just didn't quite happen really. It will be interesting to see whose place Williamson takes when he's fit...

The main thing with Small Quin is this. What the hell is going on his little ginner brain that tells him his "beard" looks good? It looks like a hairy strap holding a ginner wig on. Somebody please tell him that he looks a twat.

i agree that the problem is when you have quinn and monty together. quinn would be ideal to bring on the last 20minutes, just to upset the flow a bit, but we really need someone who can dictate the pace in midfield.

as much as i want howard to do well, i just don't think he can do this role, and i expect this is what williamson will be hping to do. i think hendrie should also be given a chance, as during some of his brief appearances last season, i think he did well.

Brian Stock would just be another Brian Howard ,both are crap. Give Williamson a chance with Monty. I actually thought Quinn was much better last night ,get Howard out of the way and put Evans in as another body to pass to and we won't be far off.

I have to agree totally with you. Howard is not good enough for the role. Williamson should be given a chance alongside Monty but so should Hendrie. He's shown his attitude has changed and is ten times the player Howard is.

As much as I like Quinny I would have to agree with what most people have said in this thread, second half of last season he was woefull and he didnt look any better last night.

It was what we needed to do to get a point at the favourites for promotion. That said we did try and play some decent stuff at times but when it broke down it was invaribly with Quinny.

Bunn looks twice the 'keeper Paddy is (in all but size) and once again the back four and Monty were immense.

I think the initial month is just to ensure that we don't pre-judge the verdict that will come down on Paddy. All the early signs were that Bunn would stay on till January, and he himself indicated that he'd like to stay for a much longer spell. Early impressions were very good.

The midfield area is certainly a problem area. Thought both Squinney and Howard weren't up to the mark last night. Juries still out on France and Treacle. Thought Hendo did well to say he aint played a full game for months. Monty was MOM for me. Bunn was steady. Is it me or does he have a vague look of George Clooney? :)

Generally agree - though I think he had some worse games last season :(

Question for me tho - is where did it all go wrong? Up to the middle of last season he would have been one of the first names on the team sheet for me. They say form comes and goes - but class is permanent - - so I can't agree with those who say he's crap - but we do need to do something to get his form/confidence back.

agree re howard he luks overweight and very slow to be honest. with quinny i dont understand the season in the premiership and first half of last season i thought we had got a player in a million, but it seems like tonge it just isnt happening for him, the main thing that winds me up (which i have to admit i didnt see yesterday) is the get the ball around the half way line head down n kick high into the corner or in to touch, amount of times last season the short pass was on n he did that i could have screamed lol also like has been pointed out amount of times last night he lost the ball especially in our half which led to an attack from them was frightening. and i no he had one good chance but is positioning for the other shots was bad his body language just seems to say he hasnt played football before which is a shame. I think one from hendrie and williamson have got to start with montgomery.

What makes you think Stock would be any better than Howard ?
Wellens I would have gone for ,at least he can pass a ball forward. Stock just plays easy balls to his back 4 all day.

Howard never tackles like he means it and isn't good enough on the ball to be a luxury player. My worry with Stock is that he's been great under O'Driscoll (at Bournemouth and Donny) but rubbish without him (at PNE)

Not a favourite of mine but Henderson was superb last night. We looked a better side when Cotterill came on, hopefully we'll add some pace at home - Ward, Reid, Cotterill.

Difficult to tell from low down behind the net but Bunn looked rooted to his line on crosses a couple of times in the second half. Good save in the first half though and he can kick it m-i-l-e-s.

Biggest surprise of the night was the lad on thr front row not getting lobbed out for smashing the ball at the steward!

I thought Quinny was woeful last night, Very sloppy.

Monty had a good game, played his heart out he did (and I loved him body slamming Lita).

Bunn was brilliant, I was really skeptical when I heard he was between the sticks instead of Benno, but he was spot on. I thought he looked a little bit anxious on some back-passes though..

Which says everything about the back passes from Walker and Killa (I think was the second). Thought Bunn did well - and unlike Cooperblade, I thought he looked good coming off his line!! (such as sweeping up awful back passes)

I hate to knock him as I really want him to do well (a la Tonge!) but sorry to say he just hasn't cut it. I wasn't impressed with his attacking yesterday, he gets in the positions but doesn't take his chances. How many times last season did he shape to shoot only to have the ball fly over the bar/ shot saved/ deflected.

I'm hoping that he'll come into his own in the home games.

I get the impression he's one of the first names on Blackies team sheet
