Possible Summer Targets

All three of them scored at the weekend!

Looks like Andersson has a relegation release clause and can leave on a free. Must be worth a look.

I'd like us to be looking in that league as these three seem ideal on paper. fuerstenberger do you know much about these players? And generally how would you compare Bundesliga 2 to the Championship?

I may have missed something Ricky, but hasn't Wilder adopted a UK only policy? It's the one thing I've questioned where bringing in players is concerned. If I'm wrong all the better.

So Southampton are staying up, which means we'll probably have another summer of the Sam Gallagher transfer circus. Hopefully they'll let him go on loan and we'll get him. Think they'll either use him or sell him though.

It's very doubtful we'll look abroad, more wishful thinking from me but it's interesting to look at some potential options. Wouldn't be surprised to see one or two of those Bundesliga 2 strikers end up in the Championship next season.

It does seem daft not to look abroad and instead restrict ourselves to the small pool of good, attainable strikers in this country.

Agree with your last comment, a bit like cutting your nose to spite your face. There are so many examples of really good foreign players who've adapted to the English league that not to consider any of them seems such a waste of potential. Of course there are teams who manage without too many foreign players, but overall they play a significant part in the success of our most successful teams.

Unfortunately due to the ongoing ownership wrangles, it would seem fairly pointless to suggest any players that would be subject to anything more than a minimal transfer fee at the moment.

As someone who works in M&A, albeit not the leisure industry, I know how long such negotiations can take, especially where there's also litigation involved. As much as I'd like to believe that things will be resolved quickly and amicably, I just can't see it so would suggest waifs, strays and free/very low transfers may be all that Utd are able to target over summer. How the selling of a major asset (Brooks, Fleck, O'Connell etc) would remain to be seen.

At least it will put a stop to those suggesting players like Jordan Rhodes and Mitrovic :)

And then the next two posts suggest Aden Flint (who had a £6,000,000 bid for rejected in January)!

Bundesliga 2 has been poor this season to be honest. So I wouldn't put too much store by those stats. I think Nürnberg, top, would be lower mid table in the Championship. There are players in every team that could probably cut it in the Champioship as Wagner and Houghton have shown. Kachunga and Uwe Hunemeier both came from Paderborn after being rejected by bigger clubs. If I'm honest, I would be looking at certain centre halves. Wouldn't feel confident, legally, in naming any on here. Suffice to say goals against column should give pointers. I know of one who would fit the Wilder mould. That's assuming CW is still with us and not managing, WBA, Sunderland, Swansea, Southampton, Swindon, Fleetwood or Fladgeworth Athletic.

Jay Dasilva really looks like a quality player. Way too good for L1. Very good on the ball, they can hardly get near him. Won their player of the season too. I don't think Chelsea will let him go permanently but he'd be a good loan for us. He'd be great linking up with Fleck and Duffy down the left.

Would we sign someone who's only 5 foot 7 to play LWB though? I'd like to think so.

How much would John McGinn cost?

Sign the lad at Bradford who joined in the summer from Arsenal. Quality LWB.

He's the most suitable replacement I can think of in terms of that combination of bite, ability and left footery.

I suppose if Fleck were to leave then, the fee we'd receive would allow us to buy McGinn.

I've no idea if Fleck could be going btw.

I watched Charlton Shrewsbury last night and I don’t remember League one being this poor.

Today we've been linked with AFC Wimbledon's Deji Oshilaja, who is a right footed centre half. Not the tallest but has a good leap & is pretty nippy iirc.

Potential swap for George Long?

Where is that rumour from? Not seen it.

I remember posting about Oshilaja after Gillingham away last season. Looked a real good athlete and a solid defender. I think he'd be a strange signing now though. Because he's not one you'd expect to displace Basham nor would he seem a likely option to play in the middle. I think any CB we sign is likely to be an option for two of the positions (eg. RCB/CB) and strongly challenge for a starting place.

To be honest in the games Leonard has played RCB he has looked good. I hope with a good pre season he will adapt to our way of playing and be a real asset.

Basham has been incredible this year and I don’t see anyone taking his place this year.

A think the central CB role may be up for debate. It’s an area where Stearman is decent no doubt but to improve we need better.

I want to throw in some names.

Ollie Norwood - Fulham (on loan from Brighton).
He’s a squad player for them and if they go up or not there going to try and improve there side and I think Norwood May be available.

David Button - Fulham.
Reserve goalkeeper for them but started the season in goal and always looked a good player.

Danny Bath - Wolves
Again they have improved and he has been left as a good championship player but for Wolves thag doesn’t cut it.

Danny Ward - Cardiff
Pretty much same as Bath.

Lee Tomlin - Cardiff
He would be one of the first choices for me. Everytime I have seen him he seems to have exceleant ability. Not sure about attitude etc

Ricky I think Okita could be a decent signing for us. Not 100% convinced if his physique is good enough for the Championship but his technique definitely is, and he can play on every attacking position, which is a big pro. 1 year contract left, so fee would be 1-2 million I think and his wages are not a problem.

Another possible signing, but this one is highly unlikely but if Chelsea doesn't want to sell Mason Mount yet, we could try to get him on a loan deal. My club AFC Ajax is very interested in him but don't think Chelsea is gonna let him go for under 10 million. But Mount would be the best player in the Championship by a mile.

Seconded. :)

Chelsea have asked Mount to report for pre-season training, so we'll see what happens there

Mount only turned 19 in January. What he's done is very impressive. Got a hat trick in a 5-2 win for Vitesse at the weekend!

Anyone for Maddison from Posh? They've just transfer listed him. Can play upfront, in behind or out wide. Mcburnie from Barnsley reminded me of him actually, similar style. He also takes a mean free-kick and would be a great option for about £1 million + add ons.

Maddison is rumoured to be a few million. That prices us out.

A couple of questions for you fuerstenberger. What's the standard of Liga 3 in Germany? and have you seen Benjamin Girth play? He's a 26 yr old forward who plays for Meppen, 19 goals in 36 games this season, which doesn't appear poor for a mid table side. :)

I have seen loads of Bundesliga 3 games as that is the sphere I am currently in. I have seen Girth more than three times. Think Mark McNulty, no better, no worse. Of course that it is just my opinion. It's hard to compare leagues. I would say the players here are technically better on the whole. I watched the Derby Fulham game with many U21's and a few first teamers. The general opinion was that it was at a mid table Bundesliga level. I doubt, so did they, that any Bundesliga 2 team could live with the intensity and speed, of Derby and Fulham, for longer than 45 mins. This is just my opinion and I am not great at this, but I would say, the Blades would walk Bundesliga 2. As would most Championship teams, to be fair. All games would be close as German defenders are generally very good. The reason why I do feel Wilder could do worse than to look here for a few centre backs. They have the same heart and mentality as British players. They work hard and that would rub off on the rest of the team. Plus, they hardly touch alcohol in a season.

Thank you for your knowledgeable response. :)

Don’t see Posh getting anywhere close to a million unless there is a queue for the lad.

Don’t they have a policy of listing players who won’t sign a contract so would mean he’s into the last 12 months
