The Prince’s involvement with us has to have been one of the strangest business decisions of all time, what he has got out of it I don’t know, he appears to have put a few million in, got nothing back, and not raised his own profile above a few thousand football fans in South Yorkshire.

We did relatively well out of it in that we were, on occasion, the biggest spending club in third tier for a while and eventually got a good manger and promotion back to tier 2.
I can suggest a few other business deals that made even less sense such as Randy Lerner's involvement in Villa, Ellis Short at Sunderland and SISU with Cov. And that's just football. You may as well just take £100m and stick it on red.

True.

In a former life, I helped update & maintain the criteria for granting Work Permits to footballers. With freedom of movement between EU Nations, the rules only applied to non-EU players. Essentially, the rules were you had to have played a lot of recent games for a highly ranked International side. So, an Argentinian who had only played a handful of international games would not get the gig. Neither would a guy who was ever present for Burkina Faso. I'm making the point that we already have a Work Permit structure. Of course post Brexit, we may have a more lenient or more restrictive regime.

We are all in the dark on this, as the government hasn't yet agreed what it wants to achieve with Brexit. If the Tory right gets its way, they will be under pressure to reduce immigration, which will include reduction of overall numbers, keeping essential workers, and avoiding obvious 'own goals', which could include a hospital being unable to appoint surgeons when the local PL team signs limitless expensive footballers. I'm not sure how the exports work - a few top players presumably bring in TV money, but do run-of-the-mill players, and overseas players in the EFL pay their way?
"The Premier League will earn £3.2billion from foreign broadcasters in 2016-19" is the size of the EPL current deal.

I agree League 1 and 2 won't be a big consideration but with 3 parachute payment clubs going down each year, they won't restrict the Championship either.

The footballers v doctors pay is an age old debate and I for one think footballers get ridiculous amounts of money but I believe they'll have an easy flow post Brexit.

That’s the risk isn’t it, it could easily go that way, or it could go the way Watford have taken it.

Depends if you want to gamble using the club as chips.

Obviously, losing the Prince & his entourage would be good for the Club. I don't want his tainted money. Which comes from a position of silver spoon privilege, made on the back of modern day slavery in a despotic & barbaric regime. Americans, Turks, Saudis all pretending to be Blades until the next Ego Project pops up. This is Sheffield FFS. Ditto "Chinese Investment".
But, that's just me.....

I think you might be in for a disappointment...

I think Princey has always been interested in the Prem and see’s us as a vehicle for him to get there...buying McCabe out totally at some point.

A huge proportion of that £3.2 billion will go abroad on transfer fees, payments to agents, recruiting managers, players' salaries sent abroad, etc., so perhaps the balance of payments case will not be that strong. And with clubs increasingly foreign-owned and tax-haven based (e.g. ManU), more of the money will go straight back out of the country.

EPL contribution to the Treasury was £1bn in 2011, must be much higher now. (£2.4bn in 2014).

I think he’s more or less gone though.

I dont get the prince getting bored element As some have said, because the last few years have hardly been boring, 2 semi finals, derby victory + beaten barnsley & leeds, 1 play offs. Trip to old trafford & the 1st league title for 34 years

But ok he might have talked about this investment that some feel hasnt developed but last few months i feel it can be case of familiarity breeding contempt i agree money helps saturday was huge proof of that Wolves were stunning. But it isnt always the answer QPR are 1 example, but mainly we just have to look across the city at how its turned out for them because since the play off final theyve spent nearly £30m in just transfer fees nevermind high wages & they are fighting relegation. Actually unless people have short memories we chucked money at it. We were the wolves of L1 under clough & adkins it got us absolutely nowhere. We got beat by yeovil who if they had 1/4 of our then budget id be amazed & then under adkins had our worse league finish for 34yrs. Most of it still to this day was how we wasted 1.5m (alledged 20,000 a week wages) on brayford. So its a high risk gamble & which 8 out of 10 times doesnt pay off

Even then its not fully a case of give wilder the money because he's said back in the summer transfer window. that because of his previous club where 2 or 3 have had severe finalical difficulties that he is careful with money. Because he knows from personal experience its the people behind the scenes that suffer

sheff_blade90 you list the reasons not to be bored - 2 semi finals, Derby victory, play offs, Old Trafford, League 1 title.
I agree, as a Blade, things to enjoy there.
But, why would some random, entitled, Playboy from a Middle East Royal Family find those enjoyable?
I'm from the bottom of Woodseats Rd, I find Saudi Football boring. He's from Riyadh, he'll find Sheffield football boring.
He's not interested.

HowI see it is that when we were in League One he (the Prince) said I will fund United heavily when we reach the championship now that made little sense because to fund a promotion push from League One to get to the championship made a lot more sense if he wanted us to progress to the championship. That sounded like bull shit to me at the time and many other supporters. I reckon McCabe bankrolled most, if not all of that push in League One. Now when we reach the Championship and are riding high and looking really good at the top of the division he, the Prince, thought this is great not having to put massive ( sorry about the word massive) amounts of money in and we’re going to get to the promised land without too much of my hard earned money. Once in the premier league the Sky money will see everything is ok and I can probably make a great deal of money...whooppeee. Then we began to slip after Coutes’s injury and all of a sudden realisation kicked in that oh no I may have to actually put a lot of my money in to get to the promised land. I think I had better jump ship and keep my money. That’s how I see it, that’s how most of my fellow Blade mates see it. Maybe a Walter Mitty type character who knows.

I was thinking compared to most teams outside of the premier league we have the most eventful few years. So if he's bored with us then he doesn't have a hope with any other club

Nice theory but they've put in equal amounts each year since Princey came on board.
Without his input we'd have been staring at L2, so I'll thank him for that.

I suspect these events have been rumbling on since the summer, hence our (relatively) modest budget...one rumour being that either Princey or McCabe wanted to put more cash in during January to 'have a go' whilst the other didn't.

...the other rumour being that McCabe has 'sold up'/found a new investor and is trying to get Princey out.

Agreed. McCabe needs to explain what the fuck is happening?. I don't see how the prince investing in another club is good for us in any way?.

Yes quite why KM let a private individiual spend some of his own money in another country really needs sorting.

Once again KM is to blame!

But, that's just me.....

It's not just you.

Sadly we are outweighed by the 'spend some muneh' brigade who would happily be funded by Isis, Kim Jong Un or Putin, if we could pay £15m for a striker and the priviliedge of then giving him £70k per week.

He wouldn't have to be good, just a 'name' and be expensive.
