Good decision to sell Ramsdale

Will have a good career and no doubt a long one but doesn't have the natural presence to play infront of 20k and command the box.
He did OK in the POF for Motherwell against Rangers. I just think we used him as a first choice when he wasn't mentally tough enough, in a shit team with a weak manager. Clough saw that straight away and took him out of the firing line. He's grown up since then.

You're talking rubbish. To say "you've either got it or you haven't" when youre talking about players 21 and younger is probably the most moronic thing I've read on the forum. I can only assume you're trolling.

Talking rubbish, moronic and trolling all in one post. That's nice. I'd reply in kind if I could be bothered but in this case I can't as it would be a waste of time trying to reason with a gobshite like you.

Thats exactly what I'd say if I didnt have a leg to stand on either.

You calling me a gobshite is possibly the most ironic thing I've ever read

I refrain from personal insults unless it's a retort to someone else's, like yours. Instead of being a cry-baby, you'd be better advised to stick to the old mantra of don't dish it out unless you can take it back

If you think me describing your post as "rubbish" or "mornic" is a "personal insult" then I dont think it's me who's the cry-baby...

All this stuff about age doesn't wash. The kid Wildsmith the pigs have between the sticks has been keeping them afloat since Westwood got injured. You've either got it or you haven't, same as when TC was wowing us at 18 and Sessegnon doing the same now at Fulham at 17.

It may not wash with you snoot but it's a fact of life. Young kids make more errors than older players. The same in any walk of life you care to name. The difference is mistakes for keepers cost goals. The further up the pitch you are the less a mistake matters. A young striker can miss a sitter be in the wrong position give the ball away but score a worldy and all is forgiven. Young keepers aren't afforded that luxury.

Keepers mature later......well actually they don't they mature at exactly the same rate as other players but as mistakes cost goals it is a perception we have.

Rambo's strengths at United were his shot stopping, communication and strength at aerial balls. He was also outstanding at saving one on ones.
His biggest weakness was his kicking, which is a common problem among young goalkeepers.I think they got a bargain. As for the other discussion: players develop at different rates; always have, always will.

you’ll find that Ramsdale never wanted to leave

Or, he wouldn't sign a new contract with us and could have walked a few weeks later.
Our choice was over a million for a reserve on 31 January rather than scraping to get a small development fee in May.

He did just fine in front of crowds of 50,000 against Rangers at Ibrox, 75,000 against Manu in the FA Cup and 47,000 the other week against Tottenham at Wembley.

However I take your wider point that he will do just fine as a keeper and perhaps best for all a clean start away from the Lane to rebuild.

That's exactly it, there's nothing special about goalkeeping, it's just another position on the pitch. At 18 you have sufficient judgement to vote, buy a house, get married and stick your neck above the trench in a combat zone. I don't see the superiority of goalkeeping above any of these. Mistakes are usually a result of not being up to it.

Young Rammers be a top drawer keeper in the near future of that there is no doubt and he’s a big enough character to learn from any mistakes.....when a club decides that the offer on the table is too good to refuse then the player has very little say in whether he stays or goes you’ll find that Ramsdale never wanted to leave

Rammers will be a good keeper, I have no doubt.

As to him never wanting to leave....... I can understand.....I mean who would want to go to a Prem club and have their wage increased by 12 x.......;)

You need to lay off the weed, it's frazzling your brain cell.

Well it's not exactly it is it.

Young players make more mistakes than older players.

Mistakes for keepers cost goals.

Mistakes from outfield players usually don't cost goals.

It may be that a young player makes mistakes because he isn't up to it, (plenty aren't) but it may equally be that they ARE good enough but are making mistakes through inexperience.

There will be Championship and some Premier clubs monitoring George right now

and yet time and time again proved out of his depth in situations that cost him his place in the team and the squad, routine errors and a lack of breeding confidence can have a massive effect on the whole team not just how many goals you concede.

I dare say all the players there regard themselves as the one decent player in a shite team? They can’t all be right.

I based my comment on very little evidence, other than I have previously seen Ramsdale play well, and the rest of the team clearly don't. I may (and it is a common occurrence) be wrong.. :)

Mistakes are a part of learning. The good ones learn from them, the ones that don't suffer. I've yet to meet anyone who doesn't make mistakes but most make fewer as they get older, and learn to deal with it better.

Excellent. Good luck to them. I’ve seen him play. He lacks all the qualities that make up a good goalkeeper. You keep wishing him good, though.

That was a while ago though, and players change: just look at Coutts for example.

Recently Pinchy?

No. Often enough though, to see that he lacked all the basics and that his poor play was not down to lack of experience or confidence but simply because he was an awful keeper. I hope he’s improved enormously and has a decent career at the appropriate level. There’s nothing personal but I don’t pretend he’s better than he is because of his place of birth or which team he supports. You see I’m a Blade; not Bladey.

It’s only a matter of time before the Little Louis Lot get another head of steam up, isn’t it?

Very poorly constructed assertion I must say.

You simply think that all the players regard themselves as the decent one then your thought becomes fact as 'They can't all be right'.

I know it's only a forum but I do expect better......

I can’t imagine any professional footballer thinking to himself “I’m shite” can you? Yet the vast majority of the Chesterfield players are, aren’t they? Except of course Rammer, Little Louis, De Juve and Di Nonentitaio. They’re all fantastic and getting better all the time.

So what would "a decent career at the appropriate level" be for George Long? (Baring in mind he's already a 1st team regular at L1 level, playing well and yet to enter his 'peak')

Keepers do improve.
Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s becomes the Dons player of the season.

Playing in a shite team makes no difference with goal keeping howlers.

Well, maybe sometimes as a consequence of confidence in ones defence distracting a keeper.

However, in this case, I agree with you. But a keeper having a bad game, or even a dip in form, does not make that keeper poor.
