McCabe Comments

I'm sure there is a budget for summer, some of which has already been spent and I agree that summer is the best time to buy BUT you must have sufficient funds left to enable material alterations in January in case of need.

I never heard Kevin McCabe say "that's it, we're done for summer"

In my ears he was saying "we know what we want this summer and there will be more in January if we need it"

I honestly can't see why anyone is getting wound up about his January comments.

I think it was his body language and the way he put it to the reporter you could tell there was a sinister motive.

utterly disagree , peanuts ?
5,5 m was 6th highest jtw spend that season
warnock bought a bag of bollocks
if hed spent on players that knew the league wed have stayed up ,
but luton shelton and fathi was just throwing money away

I'd hardly put the fact that most other clubs were happy with the quality of their squads that January as something to really be proud of, particularly given the cash we shelled out the following summer. I am not saying that McCabe hasn't invested over the years, but the suggestion that Warnock was backed to bring in quality that January (in transfer fees and, crucially, wages) isn't right. We wouldn't go higher than £6m for Nugent when Preston rejected the bid, just like we gave up on Jerome the previous year and had to go with the lesser Akinbiyi/Horse signings. Preston's resolve for a better deal was so strong that Nugent went to Portsmouth 6 months later for...£6m.

McCabe's mantra of "hey, when the Premier League comes calling..." seemed to be in full effect in the years preceding and following our year in the Premier League, though never fully taken advantage of when we were there. A huge missed opportunity, given the purse strings were thrown open once we dropped down a league. Too late sadly.

...January is the table of scrap's though isn't it?

Every club knows you're desperate/pushing for promotion so prices rocket up and talent is from a far smaller pool.

Depends really as in a January you can approach players who are out of contract in the summer and can pick them up for a bargain price. It may not have worked out in this instance but O'Shea being one of these. We also signed Murphy in January

McCabe cant help the fact hes our sole real investor. He cant force people to put money into the club.
Hes poured plenty into the club over nearly 20 years association with us . The fact is any investor will put in what they think is as much as they can afford . Yes it would be nice if he gave us all his money .but thats really not realistic is it .Why do some of our fans think they see hes got a wealth if 125m think he can give us 124 m and just keep a million for himself. It dont work like that .
Hes been as generous as he can be .and if it had been me giving as much I d have fucked off years ago with all the abuse he gets and wed be worse off than Coventry are

McCabe cant help bigging himself up

Fixed that for ya

And if he stopped with the self promotion about what he is gonna do .... but never does, he wouldn't get a mention

January now isn't it ?

Then again maybe he is just "unlucky"

I see this week Leeds brought their ground back into the Club where it belongs ....

We have got no money for good quality players or Chris wilder is just like Arsene Weiner who does not like spending money

Out of his depth OBN sacked a year too late.

How did Fleck, JOC, Sharp, Clarke, Duffy, Moore and others get here?

Actually the new owner of Leeds United has bought the ground, not the football club.

It was purchased from an investment company based in the British Virgin Islands (so that's where they all are) who bought it off Leeds United under a sale and leaseback agreement to release cash to invest in the football club so that they could push for Premier League status.

Whoops ;)

British Virgin Islands eh? Least densely populated place on earth no doubt!
