Wilder to Sunderland?

I'm saying that money talks. If billy sharp was offered 100 grand a week at a prem club he'd almost certainly go.
But were not talking about a 30 odd year old striker entering the twilight of his career, were talking about a die hard blade, a brilliant manager and a man that's doing his "dream job" guiding his boyhood club back to the premier league.
There's money and then there are things that are priceless to some people, I might be totally wrong, but I don't think Chris will be chomping at the bit to leave just yet!.

Firstly, there is not a cat in hells chance that Chris Wilder will leave Bramall Lane this summer. This is his dream job, a job that he is doing well but as not completed. I honestly expect him to be here for a long time and will only leave when our ambitions don't match his own.

Obviously it is a given that his salary etc should reflect his standing within the game.

Secondly, we expect loyalty from our manager. Loyalty breeds loyalty and we as fans need to show the same loyalty to the manager if and when we have a bad run of results. I remember the first season back in the old First Division under Bassett when we didn't win a match until Christmas. There wasn't a murmur of discontent and Bassett turned the season round in some style.

Given the same circumstances I would like to see the same loyalty
from the fans as CW is the real deal and under him we can achieve great things. UTB.

You are showing dispresper towards Wilder and clearly think he's a mercenary chasing the most money.

If he's only interested in money he should go to Sunderland and will probably be sacked in a few months no matter how he performs when the new owners bring in their own manager.

The Aberdeen and Preston manager clearly aren't tempted by massive pay rises so why would Wilder be?

The fact is whatever we offer Wilder, we could give him a massive pay rise like our fans want
But it will achieve nothing as Sunderland can still easily pay off his new contract and double it.

It seems some of our fans think Wilder is a mercenary who'll go to the highest bidder who ever it is.
Remember Nathan Thomas? He was offered more money by Boro but chose us.
Wilder is cut from the same cloth.....which means he's won't be going to Sunderland.

Well he could easily set our minds at ease by just saying so.

Wilder wants and deserves more money!
He, like everyone else needs to feel appreciated.
At the moment McCabe is taking the piss, both in word and deed.
Wilder is hardly going to say he is not going to Sunderland.
He is using their interest to not only improve his salary but more importantly to prove McCabe commitment to him.
At the moment McCabe is seen to be found wanting.
Let us hope that this will be rectified within the very near future

I suspect he wants his wages to be somewhat in line with what Adkins was being paid, possibly wants his severance pay to be over 18 months not the 12 months that McCabe is so strict about. McCabe needs to act sooner rather than later. Chris is a Blade yes but he's also got to think about his family and like any job, if someone wants to pay him more money, then he's obviously going to think about it. Personally don't think he'll leave for Sunderland as they are a car crash club at the minute but I think if a Premier league club come calling then we might have a fight on our hands. Just my opinion.

money aside Chris lives sheff utd like we all do.... what's at sunderland other than a minefield of problems that no manager would really want to sort! this is Chris's Chelsea moment (that moment Warnock had).. who now is left at sunderland (apart from Borini) I fancy us strongly to finish near if not above them this season

Back in the 80s, we rewarded Ian Porterfield with a 10 year contract on the basis of one season's work in getting us promoted from a lower division. Whether that blunted his 'fire' or not, he was never the same. It's a bit like a loan player playing out of his skin until he gets a contract, then he puts his feet up. No manager is bigger than the club and if CW leaves (taking Knill with him), I'll be utterly pissed off, but there would be nothing we could do about it. The pig fans would be delighted (as they would have been with the departure of Warnock or Bassett) but I can't think of a single manager who I wanted to leave Wendy, 'cos they've all been shite.

It's all CW's decision. There may be absolutely nothing in it. If the Blades are rock-bottom by Christmas, some fans will turn on him. It happens to all managers eventually.

Agree to a certain extent grafikhaus, but we paid Adkins much more money for achieving bill nil and on the way costing us money, Hammond being one example.
Wilder only wants to be seen to be appreciated!

I think we're in a strong position to keep him mate. I'm not saying I think he's going, I'm just not completely convinced he'd stay. Anyway, let's hope he does as it would be a right blow.

Based on what? Where's your evidence? There is some bullshit bandied about on here.

Evidence? It's the normal thing you get promoted new contract. Portsmouth did it too late with Cook. We will end up doing the same.

We all want commitment from CW not to move to Sunderland (sidewards step more money) but we don't want to commit to CW?

You don't need evidence.

Pretty much played it with a straight bat!

Happy at the club but it's clear he won't let anyone take the piss out of him.

I don't see have a blade as manager as much different to a non supporter of the club. He's got a family and career to think about, if we don't back him and give him the support he needs to achieve his ambitions, then don't be shocked to see him leave.

Do I think he's go to Sunderland? At this moment in time no, but if they sort out the owner and offer a decent contract with financial backing I wouldn't be shocked to see him go.

"Friday saw him backed in to as short odds as 4/1 after sitting in the no man's land of 25/1 just two days prior"

All it would need is a few PIGS to ask their stepdadpig to lend em a £5 so they could "Lump on"
laugh.gif
Wilder to be next manager of Sunderland just to cause mischief and try and get us worried.........................why because they are SHITTIN their selves that Wilder's Blades will lump on them in the Championship.

In fact it would not surprise me if there is a thread on NKT asking PIGS to "lump on" Wilder, they are like that on there worried shitless about the Blades.

What are you saying? That's Sunderland interest is made up? Sky sports have confirmed it.

See what you mean. I suppose this was a few weeks back though, so I hope things (new contract) may have moved on slightly since? o_O

took us from Div 4 to Div 2 though didn't he?

Personally, I don't always hang on the rumours that Sky put out as 'news' as that news can also have an effect on the betting of punters. When you consider that Sky also have a sister betting company then you have a media outlet that can leak any old potential stories and a betting company which can take punters bets on the back of those stories. Mmhh. Cynical...me?! Only when sky confirm a signing do I take notice of their stories.

This story is real, Wilder deals underpaid, and McCabe needs to sort it quick, with a rethink of the existing offer.

I keep repeating myself here.

What are we hoping to achieve by giving Wilder a new contract?

We could double it but Sunderland would pay him off and double.
So how about us trebling his contract but Sunderland would pay that off and double that.
What if we quadrupled his contract? Sunderland would pay that off and double it again.

Imagine if Nathan Thomas plays brilliant for his 1st three matches of the season.
So then he approaches Wilder saying he wants to renegotiate his contract and double it.

Wilders reply will be "work hard.... perform well on a consistent level... then the financial rewards will naturally follow, let's see how you perform over the full year".

The same view applies to Wilder himself.
If he's as good as we all think, then money is the last of his worries.
We also need to consider "2nd season syndrome". Blackwell, Wilson and Clough were all great in their first seasons, we thought we'd finally found the right man BUT in their 2nd season they went very cautious, almost negative.

The main concern for Wilder should be is SU a club that he can use as a vehicle to help him fulfil his potential?
At the moment Wilder and SU is a great match.

Another issue is why are the managers of Aberdeen and Preston refusing large pay rises by moving to far bigger clubs like Sunderland? Wilder is probably about 4th choice as manager. They are close to being taken over by new owners, so no doubt Wilder would be "dead man walking" at Sunderland as the new owners would want their own appointments.

We are probably insulting Wilders character by even thinking he might go to Sunderland.
It's the wrong club at the wrong time
BUT if Wilders main focus is short term financial gain then it's a great move for him.

Why do we reckon McCabe is taking the piss out of Wilder and paying him the bare minimum?

I know shithouse decisions have been consistently made in the past but...

Oh...

Surely not though.

Their squad is a mess and the ownership situation is up in the air.

I'm sure they can offer him more money but it's a big risk for him. He won't be afforded any time to get it right, he will have to hit the ground running and they will expect automatic promotion. Any manager in that situation with their squad could find himself sacked by October.

His stock is very high at Sheffield United and we are upwardly mobile. Provided we give him a pay rise he won't go to Sunderland. I would be far more worried if Southampton or Palace came calling.

As far as a I could see the report suggested he was on their shortlist of potential candidates, that's all. That would have come from a source close to their club and doesn't suggest at all that they will pursue any interest. They might do but at this time all the report says is that he is considered as a possibility. Non story. We don't even know how reliable their source is. Sky sometimes add 2+2 and get 5 as well. Trust me.

What's the bare minimum these days? Isn't it legally £6.70 per hour.

So I reckon he works a 60 hour week.
60 x £6.70 = £402 per week gross = £20,904 per year.

Might not seem much but I reckon he'll be able to get his wage topped up with working tax credit.
