Wilder to Sunderland?

So he has been offered a new contract? How do you know all this? It'd settle a few nerves here if we had something concrete to know discussions are ongoing.

You mean the club may ruin a good thing by letting Wilder go? it does sound like something we would do.

You couldn't blame him if that was to happen. Even tho he is a Blade, you still don't let people take the piss out of you when it comes to work.
 
We finally get a great manager, he does what numerous other managers failed to do, he got us promoted, even more spectacularly, he achieved it with a brand of football that we had forgotten was possible. We collected 100 points, we swept the opposition aside, and we now have a squad that players, and it's all because of Chris Wilder. We have good to great players, Wilder saw their potential and because of Wilder and Knill we looked like a team that meant business....we finished last season on a high that's almost impossible to describe, and life couldn't have felt better for a Blades' fan........fast forward, and we learn that Wilder is supposed to be talking to Sunderland. Is it true? Has McCabe agreed to this?

McCabe has made many awful decisions where United are concerned, but if his incompetency contributes to Wilder leaving this club he should be ashamed of his own behaviour and offer an honest explanation to Blades supporters. I hope nothing comes of this, I hope Chris Wilder remains at United for years to come, but right now the feeling I get is that we, the Blades supporters who've stuck with this club through thin and thinner, seem to be loosing the battle to retain the talent and affinity that Wilder brought to, and has for, this club. I hope I'm wrong, I really do.

So your opinion of Wilder is, money talks and he will chase the money, rather than try and take the club he's supported man n boy back to the premiership, bearing in mind he's a die hard blade???
Coupled with the fact he isn't actually in Sunderland top 4, sorry, 3 now, wanted list, I'm not going to start worrying just yet.
 
Did I imagine an interview with Wilder where he said he wasn't bothered about a new contract and was happy and he would sit down with the owners when the time was right? I'm almost sure it happened....
 
If Wilder goes you can just see McCabe coming to an angry fans forum making his usual statements about "no bigger Blade than me" "we have a sensible budget" "you can't stand in people's way" "we all need to pull together" and leaving to pats on the back and applause form the usual clappers both there and on then on here.

If this is allowed to happen this is the end for me, season ticket is going back after 35 years.
 
I thought Wilder had had his wages tripled? Rumoured to be on about 12k per week.

Not sure what other champ managers are on but I can't see him being a lot worse off than most.

8.25% sell on fee? Or are you assuming 3 mill gets deducted from the 17 mill?

It would usually be a percentage of the whole fee assuming over the minimum clause inserted. Whether that is 10 or 15 or more only the black hole knows

IF it came to pass I'd agree with you and some IIYB, but I think it's way too early to get too down on it just yet mate. Let's see what the next few days bring.

Either way though, if Wilder continues to do well, we're going to have to get used to this whether we up his contract or not, but I agree it needs addressing if it already hasn't.

Think you get my point Gray. It's not whether Wilder is approached that concerns me, that's a byproduct of success. It's whether our board have the necessary astuteness to have already addressed the question of a new and improved contract? As you say, a little calm until we're aware of how things pan out. But the marriage of United and Wilder is a once in a generation occurrence, and as such new agreements should have already been agreed, on improved terms, with built in incentives for future success. It seems the board, or McCabe, have been dragging their feet. After the season we've just had that's inexcusable and makes you wonder about what motivates McCabe and the Prince? All the words in the world won't make any of us feel better about this, and I suspect the fact that the fact a new contract is being offered shows just how reactive the board have been. Deeds and actions, they seem alien in this case.
 
I like how Wilder speaks during transfer windows about how the club has a budget and won't be bent over etc I think this is great but it doesn't give him a great starting position when it comes to his own negotiations.
 
So many comments around what our board haven't done and whats been offered and not followed through, and not a credible source or figure in sight.
Personally I'd love some of you guys to be negotiating across from me, slight concern and you're offering to treble down on your offers.

If he wants to go for more money and to manage at a higher status with more money than we'll ever be able to put up in this league, then there is nothing we can do.
If he wants to stay then deals can be done and contract extensions discussed.
These deals only work if they're invested in the club, want to stay, and have faith between manager and board, otherwise you'd be reacting to any managerial vacancy which in the current climate is almost weekly.
 
All seems a bit speculative and panic driven to me, but at the same time I have to say I did find that Alan Biggs interview last month just a tad uncomfortable. It made me realise we can't be complacent about retaining the services of the guy just because he's a Blade. I do hope they are treating him with the respect he has earned thus far.

He might "already have a very good contract" as the Chairman said but he didn't just get us out of this shit league at the first time of asking where others failed, and in such style, he overachieved massively in terms of sorting out the bloated squad and sorting out and restoring (big style) the relationship with the fans.When that kind of exceptional thing occurs it should be rewarded. I hope it has been or will be soon.

I'm saying that money talks. If billy sharp was offered 100 grand a week at a prem club he'd almost certainly go.

You are showing dispresper towards Wilder and clearly think he's a mercenary chasing the most money.

If he's only interested in money he should go to Sunderland and will probably be sacked in a few months no matter how he performs when the new owners bring in their own manager.

The Aberdeen and Preston manager clearly aren't tempted by massive pay rises so why would Wilder be?

The fact is whatever we offer Wilder, we could give him a massive pay rise like our fans want
But it will achieve nothing as Sunderland can still easily pay off his new contract and double it.

OK, let's just break down what I've said on this matter. I have said that I think it's naive of fans to think he will stay purely because of his loyalty to us. He's a professional manager and has to think of his personal life and family.

At no point have I said he's chasing money and a mercenary.

I'm simply pointing out that he MAY leave like any other manager or player if he gets a better offer, which he may.

At no point have I ever shown him any disrespect.

Totally agree. If there's one thing we do know in football is how quickly things can change. We could be bottom of the league in November with fans calling for his head.
Such is the fickleness of football fans.

But even if the worst does happen and CW does leave Sheffield United FC will still be here, no one person is bigger than the club.
