So now that pre season should be starting soon & players are coming back from holidays. Are we still all as optimistic as a few weeks ago?

I still think with a couple of quality additions that we could have a good season & show that we can compete.

It would be great to carry last season over to this one & be amongst the challengers!

No. The new kits aren't out and the club haven't even bothered to draw up the fixture list yet. The Desso is in tatters and some fucker has left a big pile of sand, sand I tell you, in the car park. The kop STILL has pillars and I the 3rd degree burns I suffered as a result of a flare being shoved down my trousers are still not healed. We are a shambles form top to bottom and until Wilder is removed I will not be happy.

Hell Yeah! Stick a Poll in front of me right now on where we'll finish and now and i'll stick us at 17th!

We'll have to see what the craic is once the transfer window is open and things really start to move. I really hope we can move quickly and get those top quality players in as soon as, so that we can give ourselves a bit of wiggle room towards the end of the window as we did last season (Lafferty and EEL came in late once we saw ourselves lacking in key areas).

I'd put the optimism on ice until the football begins. But I'm very much looking forward to the new season just to see us out of that shithole division!

Pessimist!
What you don't realise is that I will accompany that prediction with a dull and fact less justification based upon nothing but feelings at that time... Ok perhaps you did realise that would be the case... But anyway, this is what i did last season, although i predicted a 7th placed finish in League 1, so following the same principle it should hand things back to Wilder and the boys to prove me wrong.

Seriously, it's a hard call at this point, but haven't looked forward to a new season with as much optimism as this for a long time. Hoping Wilder will be challenging for play-offs, but only time will tell.
Just seems like the club is in a very different place to where it has been ever since the last premiership season - even that for me didn't feel positive. We didn't seem to have any self belief, with Warnock "just enjoying the experience" while it lasted.
Wilder's self belief is contagious, and even though the championship is uncharted for him, I think his football "philosophy" (for want of a better word) will continue to work at the new level. Here's hoping.

I also think I've a great chance of kopping off with Kelly Brooke, and doing her up the sludge pipe. Or Dianne Abbot. I'm not fussy.

There's "not fussy" and there's "not fussy", but Dianne Abbot?

Really?

I'd say 'whatever floats your boat', but it would have to be a special large high buoyancy boat, with that innumerate bitch on board.

Optimistic, Yes definitely. Only downside at the moment is the withdrawal symptoms kicking in.

Difference is that Wilder instils his beliefs and passion into the players, its clear that without this, you simply don't play for Wilder, no matter who you are.

Wilder is Confident, but doesn't make statements that he can't back up, doesn't make excuses, tells it like it is and when he sees something wrong or missing, goes back and puts it right. The preparation levels are probably as high as they've ever been.

I don't think we've ever had that in my lifetime, even under Bassett we were always hard working, same with Warnock but we lacked technically ability in certain positions.

I'd like to think that would all mean that we're set up for top half in the Championship, but i think we're still a little short, certainly in depth of the squad, certainly in goals from Midfield, additional pace and defensively we need a player to bolster that middle.

I am.

I think that we genuinely have some very good footballers in the team and some of these will be established Prem players in the future. Whether that's with us or someone else is not known - but they will be for sure.

Last season we played way above L1 level in the majority of games. We didn't just scrape out of the division like some Sheffield clubs have done - we murdered it. We won't struggle next season even if we hadn't signed a single player.

And then you've got the manager.

He doesn't do "consolidation" - he only does "winning".

Reasons to be cheerful I think?

" are we all still optimistic"

Circumstantially what's changed ?

Agree with you fella

The total team ethic that Wilder insists on i think is going to be a major part of our success next season just as it was last. The day of the over rated individual will not exist at BDTBL under our current boss.

My prevailing mood now is of complete and utter boredom

Roll on July

I'm confident now I have got the young un a season ticket, she is 9 games in over the past 2 seasons and has seen us take 27 points, that's a better strike rate than Wilder!!

Exactly the same as my thoughts.

Last season was so so comfortable in many games that
I'm actually looking forward to seeing some proper games where teams come at us and give us some competition.

Ricky Holmes and Ryan Leonard

Then I will feel a bit better

I'd never heard of Ricky Holmes until about this time last year. When I heard that Wilder was joining us I looked at who were the outstanding players in his newly promoted Northampton Town team and Ricky Holmes and goalkeeper Adam Smith, were the ones that stood out. I did the usual thing and checked him out on YouTube and thought he looked very handy. I thought that we'd go and raid Northampton for both these players, but Holmes was tempted by more money at Charlton it seems - which was disappointing. And Smith, surprisingly, stayed put at Northampton Town. (I still think he could end up joining us this season as we look to move George Long out of the club).

Ryan Leonard is another one I'd never heard of until about 6 weeks ago, when the rumours started that we were looking to sign him. I know nothing about him and haven't even bothered to check him out on YouTube. If Wilder thinks he's good then great...that'll do for me.

However, I think there will be more to look forward to than Holmes and Leonard, even though these two names have hogged the rumour mill now for several weeks.

Ricky Holmes and Ryan Leonard have got to destroy their relationships with their current clubs, state they want away and demand transfers to Bramall Lane before things can progress.

Hard on their clubs, hard on their fans but exactly what many players would do. If they don't I'll respect and admire them. If they do I'll be optimistic for top ten, maybe even a serious challenge for the play-offs. If they don't I'm happy Wilder will bring a couple of different targets in plus a couple of young, quality loanee defenders.

As someone rightly said above, we are going up there in really good shape and spirit which will carry into next season.

If we sign Holmes and Leonard, it looks increasingly like we'll be splashing the big cash on a couple of centre backs and one forward? While ever CW is at the helm, I'll be optimistic. He won't stand for no shit. Be that from the players, or the boardroom.
