Incoming? Phil Jagielka

There are actually people on here who think he deliberately gave a penalty away to send us down so he could leave the next season. A player who had been at the club since a teenager.

Literally one of the most retarded things I've ever heard.

To be fair it's pretty retarded and naeve to thing that people won't betray others or a club when there's a pot of gold worth millions waiting.

I can't believe Jags did anything untoward either. All I was saying is that it's a possibility and I'm surprised the conspiracy theorist haven't already questioned it. Where there's millions at stake there's often a culture of various levels of corruption and little underhand deals.

My point was that it did look a weird penalty to give away that made no sense.

Put we are in a much better place now.

Lets not look back, lets go onwards and up.

If there are a lack of other centre half options, at least to play in the middle of a 3, and he's not too bothered about money, then I'd be more open to him coming back here. There's no doubt he's got the sort of experience that could really help our current players and hold the defence together.

I just don't think he'd lower his wage demands to less than 20k p/w.

Jagielka-Wigan conspiracy theories ? Come on !

To this day, his handball against Wigan still looks like one of those inexplicable, reflex things that sometimes happen in real-time sport, where things happen fast---as opposed to how it looks in slo-mo replay sport, or in freeze-frame, where any error can end up looking like it was made with malicious intent after hours of planning. Sometimes even elite players find their bodies doing things their heads can't explain. Like the batter who bizarrely shoulders arms against a straight one (chucked at him from 22 yards at 90mph) and is bowled, and like countless handballs at every level of the game, every weekend, all over the world.

Perhaps, having starred all season first in midfield then at centre-half, Jags was just discombobulated by Colin's utterly bizarre decision to play him at right-back. Now, there's one for the conspiracy theorists :D

I remember a stupid handball that jack O'Connell did at the start of the season, should we go on about that and ignore his great performances.

That's when a few people started singing:

Jack O'Connell's tragic
He really is a twat

However it was misheard by the majority and the rest is history.

I can't believe people are saying No to this... you're fricking mental... would not only be an awesome signing but a statement of intent.

Don't think it's bring mental , just wary having been down this path before , with players at the end of there playing careers . Phil Thompson , Ian Rush come to mind .

Jags is no Paul McGrath . To me whatever Wilder says or agrees goes .

From a fans perspective it's all about opinions .

For what it's worth someone on the Everton forum posted this this morning:

"I live in Sheffield and just heard on the local radio he is in talks to go back to Sheff United"

Did anyone hear owt similar? Could explain why Wilder and HRH met today.

Simple reason why we should get him imo, the younger players would come on leaps and bounds playing and training alongside someone like him. I can't see it happening due to wages but I hope it does.

I see him being a far better acquisition than 95% of our "veterans"! How many former legends have come down to BDTBL to be absolutely wank? Jags still has a lot in him and I agree, I think he'll be good for the kids.

Never heard of this nonsense before, but please explain why Jags wouldn't have been allowed to leave if it hadn't been for that penalty?

Are you taking the pi$$?
We still had him under contract. We would have only considered selling him if receiiving a large bid (i.e. over £10 million). I remember his quotes saying he didn't really want to leave but needed PL football.

His contract had a relegation clause allowing him to go to a club that bid £4 million.
Meaning he was a bargain and the bidding club would then be able to offer massive wages.

So he's going to risk getting a lengthy ban for match fixing just so he can get a few extra quid a week? Really?

Tbf an ITK bloke in the Hen and Chicks told me Warnock was in on it and the agreement was that Jagielka gives him a percentage of his increased earnings. FACT.

We don't need to sign players with a well known and premier league name to make a statement of intent.

Read the full thread. If his wages are 15k a week for one season that's over £750k. For an england centre half that sounds very good value.

However, there are a few things wrong with that statement.
1. He's now 35, and no longer an England player
2. He has had a long injury lay off, and will find it harder to keep fit.
3. The strongest part of his game was pace and tackling, he has lost pace and won't get that back.
4. He is going downhill now, not upwards.

So we could be signing an old, injury prone player who's best years are well gone, on a salary (assuming he might play for 15k) which would be the ceiling of our budget, with NO resale value In the future.

He might have moved to the club in his teens after release elsewhere, but that's where his affinity ends, there is no long love for the club. He had a few good years...that's it. As far as he is concerned he is a wealthy lad, currently earning a lot of money. That is potentially going to stop in a months time. He is a young man with a family, with hard earned tastes and social circles that he will have come accustomed to and will want to keep for the rest of his life. So he won't give a monkeys whether it's his old club or another club, he will want a wage for as long as he can, and the highest wage he can get.

Now I am not mental to want my club to look out for the best interests of the club. And I am sorry, the CURRENT Phil Jagielka is not going to be worth the salary he will get from a club based on his PAST performances rather than his current abilities.
This club has been down this road so many times, signing players well past their best looking to collect a salary for another year or two. As recently as Dean Hammond I might add. It didn't go well.

Now if we were bringing him in on a very low wage....5-6k a week, with a one year rolling deal and a role suited to this stage of his career (back up player in a very competitive league) and a view to him coaching then fair enough. But any more than that then we should be looking at other options.

Yeh it still surprises me why more isn't made of it.

Jags has a clause that he can leave us on the cheap ( ensuring himself a massive personal pay rise BUT this can only happen if we are relegated.

Not saying this occurred, no idea but just imagine if an agent at Everton approached Jags agent and said if your club is relegated come and join Everton and we'll triple your wage, so Jags has to make sure we lost the final game.

I still can't understand why when the Wigan corner came in Jags appeared to deliberately stick his arm out for a clear and unexplainable handball. Put that with the other conspiracy theories.
What the fuck are you talking about?

I'd venture he'd want a big signing on fee. It's a no from me.
