I remember all this when we signed Phil Thompson . Look were that got us .

If Jags leg have gone in the premiership , would he be any better in the Championship .

I remember Paul McGrath's legs were gone when he left Man Ure but he put in another 10 years of sublime performances -- Even his last few performances in the Red & White stripes were pure quality !

Would be a decent experienced signing but he will have a few takers near the bottom end of the PL. His wages would make it impossible anyway.

Remember him playing for us against Kevin Francis who was up front for Brum at the time. He must've been 6ft 7 / 6ft 8, but didn't win a header all afternoon. It was an absolute masterclass of defending.

We're comparing a world class player to a good PL defender though.

Makes you wonder what the likes of McGrath, Whiteside and Red Wibe Robbo could have been like if they weren't grade A ale carts.

Jags would do a job for any Champinship side.

Hopefully except us . He IMO will finish up at Sunderland . They can take the hit with parachute payments regarding Jags wages . We cannot take the risk . Money could be spent elsewhere for a up and coming CB not one who could be a risk both financial and fitness wise .

He was 35 in August. Closer to 36 now.

However he does owe us one...

I'd go with staying in the PL with Burnley.

Agree with wages btw. Unless he'd be happy with a twix and a roller cola !

Yippiiiee .. Ex player returning thread number 55,178

On what information is
this thread based. I suspect that
It is based, not on information or fact, but on someone's wish list. We could all pluck a name out of a hat and do this IMO a waste of time reading it,and yes, I do know that Icould have ignored the post I believe that there are too many of a similar nature where the playeidentified has Jac'dchamcr of joining us

I'm on the fence, assuming it was financially viable.

On one hand, he was one of my favourite players at the time and I think he could still do a job at Championship level, particularly if and when we adopt a back 3. However, it sometimes best to leave nostalgia in the past as we could get someone arguably better with more of a future, for a lot less £.

I think this was mentioned during January transfer window & heart says it would be amazing to have jagielka back at the lane. 1 of my favourite players he had the knack of scoring some cracking goals in the 90th min Leeds, Middlesbrough & seem to think there a 3rd one, also saved a few going in that save from Van Persie was brilliant. Might do a fantastic job helping the youngsters like Morgan did with him. But my worries besides the 90%+ paycut. are that at 34, i dont want him to ruin his reputation be exposed at the championship, become a liability like neill Collins & Jay Mceveley were at that 2 years ago & get "abuse" from the crowd.

I was about 15 in the 02/03 season and that team, after years of increasingly turgid shit, totally captured my imagination. For sentimental and nostalgic reasons I'd love to see him end his career with us.

That said. This team feels like an advent of a new period of success, much like the 02/03 team did. Shoehorning Jags into it might be a bit weird.

Wasn't McCall a key member of the team around that time? He was no spring chicken.

Jags would want too much I reckon - unless he was offered a bonus to get us into the Prem in say two years.

This is a non starter for me.
1 he's too good for the championship and also we'd never pay his wages, wilder said on goals of Sunday, he wouldn't ruin the team ethic by paying players 10x more than everyone else

Probably ly not on Wilders wish list but could be attractive to Jag,s,he's had all his big money pay days and unless a struggling premier team entices him
he will be in the championship next season ,which means it's a possibility.
Could be really attractive to him having his final fling withus, obviously the wages are a big consideration .His CV is lacking a winners medal,England d caps yes but no silverwear..Don't write it off if we make it , !! unless he is greedy it's a possibily

Craig Short helped us get promotion from the Championship at 38. McCall played a big part of our triple assault season at 38.

If we can get him on the right wages without fucking up our financial structure, then a big old yes from me. I don't think we should pay him loads more than anyone else though.

Jags is not a Sheffield lad and was far more a Warnock fan than a Blade.
All things being equal, and he did drop down to the Championship, my money would be on a move to Cardiff.

What move to Cardiff on a 3 year contract and Mr Warnock does a usual and fucks off .
