Rehashed from the JRS thread

If he'd smiled more, people would have liked him. Because he looked mardy he "couldn't be arsed"

Led in (all per 90)
Progressive carries
Carries into thr final 3rd
Carries into the penalty area
Attempted take ons
Successful take ins

2nd for goals, 2nd in Shots created, 3rd in key passes and shots on target,

Won more tackles per 90 than Peck, Hamer, Robinson, Arblaster

More blocks than Souttar, Hamer, O'Hare, Arblaster, Burrows

Team had a +18 gd with him on the pitch for 1,725 minutes and only conceded 8 goals. GD was only +9 in the other 2,415 and we conceded 28 goals. We only lost 3 of the 22 games he started.

I know some people didn't rate him. But United were a much, much better team with him on the pitch and the stuff about him not trying is bizarre.

There's also the fact that last season, he was playing infront of:
A) Gilchrist - Awful going forwards. Meaning JRS/Brooks were doubled up on easily.
B) Clarke - Gash
C) Choudhury - Good defensive full back, but again, not really good at going forwards.
D) Shackleton - Bleh
E) Last seasons version of Seriki (limited appearances) - We all know how much better he's looked this season.

I think he'd be great with Seriki behind him, overlapping.

With Brooks, Chong and Ogbene covering the RW position we can use any funds available far more productively than signing JRS.

I'm going to add to this that Tony Currie often looked disinterested and lethargic and strolled about quite a bit. Then he'd win you the game with a couple of bits of magic.

As a fanbase, we often want our players to be loud, brash, demonstrative etc and always to throw themselves into tackles. Although his defensive numbers were good, that wasn't JRS thing. His thing was creating shots and chances on his own - I think that's the most valuable skill in football

He also had a nice knack of arriving into the box late and in the right position. Brooks doesn't do that (yet). He's more a goal threat than any wide player we currently have. A big upgrade on Chong and Ogbene. Hopefully we can send the latter back.

Fwiw - I always remember Ifill getting pelters when we went up under Warnock. He was excellent that season. United fans and wingers is a curious thing.
